Yah okay I can relate to this. I wouldn’t let my ex rape me so he told me he was going to kill me. He then proceeded to put me through months of psychological torture to try to push me to commit suicide, as per his announcement. It was a lesson to me to never doubt someone if they tell you that they’re going to try to kill you off for not obeying their wishes. I believe this is about pathology. My ex definitely had ASPD, and anyone who tries to pull off shit like this is pathological.

Are you my ex? Ha. Best of wishes on your journey to healing and wholeness. Glad you woke up in time.

A lot of people from all over the political spectrum are beginning to wake up to this and talk about it. There are frequent discussions on the rightwingLGBT sub, the Gendercritical sub, and the LBGdroptheT sub. I believe it actually is something that’s initiating a much-needed discussion.

You’re totally right OP. This is why I don’t have casual sex. There’s no genuine appeal to it and there’s no benefits on my end. I’ve never identified with my culture in that way.

Sounds like you really dodged a bullet. The guy fits all the red flags of a narcissist.

Just STIs I mean that’s 20,000-30,000 deaths in the US per year alone, but none of my business

This is on point. Once I lost weight and got my shit together, attractive men started paying more attention to me but I got a lot more hatred from subpar guys and from other women. I’ve been called a plethora of names and slurs (although who hasn’t these days?) Even a death threat from one guy I turned down. So there’s definitely a trade off. I wish someone had warned me ahead of time that being an attractive woman can be uncomfortable and dangerous.

Agreed. There are some positive effects to RP, but it seems to attract a fuckton of narcissists and toxic people who only want to screw others the way they got screwed. Speaking from experience.

An ex claimed to be a feminist and tried to rape me and essentially told me he was going to kill me if I didn’t let him. NEVER trust men who say they’re feminists— many of them hate women more than men who have qualms about feminism, IMO.

Fair enough, you’re entitled to your opinion on the prevalence of narcissism. But I would like to point out that current estimates put the rate of NPD between 1% and 6% of the general population. Practically speaking that means that if you know a hundred people, somewhere between 1 and 6 of them are narcissists. I’ve invested hundreds of hours of research and many months of psychotherapy after a relationship with a narcissist. I could be wrong, but I believe that this would give me a sharp eye f…

Yes, I feel this way. I don’t think it’s unhealthy necessarily. I’m still a virgin for religious/spiritual reasons.

Yep. It’s easy for resentment to snowball and hatred towards Group X to increase instead of looking for the truth in an objective way. Everyone has been hurt, and everyone has hurt. I’m sometimes tempted to bitch about men, but honestly the only place where that’s actually productive or helpful to anyone is in therapy, IMO. I could be wrong, but I just haven’t seen any good from a given group X bitching about a given group Y. I just hope society at large can learn to recognize toxic people and s…

Last year I was in a similar circumstance. A 58 year old man in a work-related collab started coming after me. He was a lot more sneaky about it, insisting that that was not the case. That went on long enough that I started to feel I was going crazy, because he was clearly interested in me but kept denying it and insisting that I was crazy and overreacting whenever he believed that I had covertly rejected him. when I overtly told him to back off because he was invading my personal space, he insi…

You dated a narcissist. ALL the signs are there. Literally the whole shebang. I’m just thankful you’re out. Hang in there. I know your pain; I truly do. I went through a very similar situation last year. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. hugs through internet

I think it’s possible, with enough desire and dedication to healing oneself. I’ve done it in the past over childhood abuse issues. But I know my therapist helped me immensely after the abusive relationship I was in last year. It was like night and day, before and after I started seeing her.

Meh, sounds like the way a narc or a teenage boy thinks. Shallow priorities from a shallow, naive man who doesn’t understand that looks fade and you can’t build a relationship with anyone based only on physics attraction. I wouldn’t give him more attention than he deserves.

Most women are easy to get over. But the ones you actually (and stupidly) gave your heart to a bitch to get over. Woman here. I can agree with an understand this. From what I’ve observed with my brother and my male friends, it’s more about the content of a woman’s character that causes men to fall in love. But a woman of character can be difficult to find these days (just as it’s difficult to find a man of good character). We’re all in a crappy boat together I guess.

it usually takes men longer to get over relationships they were emotionally involved in. This is true, in my experience. Here’s an example, although it involves someone who was extremely sadistic, violent and pathological. My psychopathic ex goes to great lengths to get my attention. Let’s say one example includes him buying hundreds of dollars worth of ads online to target certain groups I was in just to make sure I would know he was going to be involved in a certain event. Needless to say I di…

Yes. A couple years ago, there was a guy in my field who was in his late 50s and who chased me incessantly and ignored my direct assertions to leave me alone. I was 26. He was rich and he thought he was entitled to me. The idea of being with him made me want to puke. Still does. It soon became clear that he wasn’t used to rejection from women like me. He showed me pictures of when he was a model back when he was my age. Back then, he was actually very attractive. Probably a 9/10. These days? He’…

I know what you mean. I haven’t been fortunate enough to experience this kind of relationship just yet, but I’ve seen it in couples I deeply admire (such as my parents and some family friends.) How do you find men you can respect? Got any tips for attracting and keeping these types of men?

No; it means to recognize the power you have to change your life. Venting is okay but prolonged bitching about something that you are empowered to change is pointless and exhausting. This is also true towards women who do this. High tier women don’t want to be with a weak man who can’t take of care of himself but just bitches about his problems instead manning up and addressing them head on. (This is NOT the same as processing/crying/sorting through real issues.) It takes a person of character a…

No, I don’t think it’s uncommon. It may be an age thing, or it may be a tastes thing. I know from the years I spent in Asia that standards of masculinity are quite different across the planet— the men (at least in S Korea and Japan) tend to be very polished, and focus less on building characteristics that are considered masculine in the West. You can check out any K-drama as an example. That being said, I felt like you until my mid twenties. Hitting my late twenties has given me a deeper appreci…

Yeah, no wonder that response shook you! I would be shaken by that too. A serious question to consider is if you want to spend the rest of your life sharing your husband and kids with a family that view you primarily as an asset. I’ve seen a lot of pain from friends who have found themselves in situations like that. Have you considered couple’s counseling? My parents were actually couples counselors and saw a lot of long term successful relationships come out of their counseling. Not that correl…

I think this may not be a bad idea for now considering where you’re at, but it may be important to view this as a seasonal decision rather than a lifelong commitment. Going solo for a while is not necessarily a bad thing. That being said, leave room for yourself to change your mind at a later date. Priorities change as we age, and you may wake up one day and find that you’d rather not find yourself alone at 70. You may just be surprised by the women who are attracted to you as time goes on. As m…

Could be a narc. If so, tread lightly. Try gently and kindly confronting him on it. If he responds in a healthy way, that’s a good sign. If he gets hyper-defensive or turns the blame around on you, be careful.
