The people giving women safety tips are the ones who are acting like men are rapists
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:51 PM

They say to teach men not to rape as consent is a more modern concept that people in the past didn't understand. If you're going to insist that men already know rape is wrong, you should look at human history. For some reason, men in the past didn't know.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:12 PM

I'm pretty sure I clarified in my next comment what I meant.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:53 PM
1

It is bizarre that you're still bitching at me over something that was obviously a misunderstanding at this point. I refused to allow you to move the goalposts and I'm still refusing to.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:17 PM
1

I am now asking you what your position is. I am asking what you think as you have told me I'm wrong. It is unreasonable for you to ask me to guess. I'm definitely not angry and will most likely be going back to bed soon. Again,I asked you for clarification of your position. Refusing to tell me is completely childish and bizarre. You are way too defensive. Actually, it would be nice for this conversation to come to an end.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:41 PM
1

I'm asking you what your position is so that our discussion can actually move forward. Are you seriously refusing to tell me?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:30 PM
1

I asked a question. Could you just answer it instead of insisting I need to present evidence? Act like a normal human being
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:26 PM
1

Ok, so now, you don't like women being taught safety tips? How about people in general?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:24 PM
1

I already explained what I was trying to explain to you. If you don't like it, just move on. Lmao.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:22 PM
2

No.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:19 PM
2

Why do you think women are being taught safety? Lmao. You're fucking hilarious.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:17 PM
2

You have refused to acknowledge what I was saying about safety tips for hours. You do not get to change your argument now. If you refused to accept my derailment, you shouldn't have replied to me at all.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:15 PM
2

You have been complaining about teaching men not to rape while ignoring every point I made about women getting taught safety tips. It is not fair to change your argument now.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:14 PM
2

We've been discussing this for hours. You don't get to change your argument now. You disgust me
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:10 PM
1

We have been discussing this for hours. Is there something wrong with you?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:10 PM
1

We've been discussing this for hours. Stop acting like you are slow.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:08 PM
1

Why are you ok with women getting safety tips but not ok with young men getting taught about consent?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:07 PM
1

No, it treats men like monsters as women are the ones getting safety tips about men. What is wrong with you? How is this hard to understand?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:04 PM
2

Could you please try taking more time to reply and actually digest what I'm saying before you reply? Why are you perfectly fine with women being given safety tips about men? Shouldn't you be offended that anyone would imply that a man would ever hurt a woman?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:01 PM
1

That is such an absurd question. Obviously not. What are you talking about?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:57 PM
1

I don't think that qualifies as treating a group as monsters. Otherwise, wouldn't the advice on safety also be treating them like monsters? Why are you fine with the safety advice if you find the idea of men as perpetrators so offensive?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:50 PM
2

I was trying to help you understand why people said it. Maybe you should complain about all the people who are telling women to be careful around men.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:44 PM
1

I have explained what I was trying to explain to you repeatedly. I explained that it was a response to women being given safety tips to protect themselves from men. I was not derailing. I was explaining where the phrase came from. I was not justifying. I was explaining where the phrase came from. I never claimed that men doesn't mean men. I was explaining where the phrase came from. Are you denying that women are given safety tips to protect themselves from men? Do you have ba problem with women…
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:42 PM
1

Dodging what question? You refuse to actually respond to anything I'm saying and keep nattering about unrelated arguments. Actually reply to what I'm saying or don't reply at all. You are seriously dense.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:34 PM
1

My "derailments" are my argument. If you don't want to reply to them, just don't. I'm tired of you.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:31 PM
1

Could you actually respond to what I said? This is very frustrating.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:23 PM
1

I'm not arguing with you over basic grammar. You seem incapable of understanding nuance and just want to attack me.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:20 PM
1

That is what I gave as an explanation and you have taken offense to it. You are just being dishonest here. Safety tips target women primarily. When is the last time you heard of men getting cautioned about being safe around women? Women get safety tips because men are bigger than they are. This is basic biology. I am not saying that targeting men is ok because women get safety tips. I am saying that, BY GIVING SAFETY TIPS TO WOMEN, we are starting a conversation that obviously also involves MEN …
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:18 PM
2

And then I immediately explained what I meant because you misunderstood. People are allowed to do that.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:12 PM
1

dude, people give women safety tips whether you like it or not. There's nothing wrong with teaching about consent
/r/MensRights31/10/22 01:09 PM
1

You assumed wrong as I'm not allowing you to change the subject of conversation. We are discussing personal safety concerns not concerns for other people's safety. Everyone is concerned for the safety of children. Since everyone is, you stating that you are is kind of obvious. I am not replying to the rest of this comment as it is really rude. It is the middle of the night where I am and you have been acting like a total asshole. Screw you. You are a bad person. Eta: could you stop writing such …
/r/MensRights31/10/22 12:59 PM
2

You're just being rude.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 12:53 PM
1

"Could you please explain how "teach men not to rape" can be a Thing that does not assume "rapist" to be the male default until taught otherwise?" This is what you wrote. I have been explaining why the phrase is a thing but it's not accusing all men of being innately rapists
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:30 AM
1

Are you seriously denying that women are taught to keep themselves safe from men? Are you denying that this is a thing that happens?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:25 AM
1

You asked how can it be a thing Why are you being so petty?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:23 AM
1

You asked how it's a thing. I'm sorry for thinking you were actually intellectually curious.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:19 AM
0

You made up stuff about what I was arguing and have been looking for reasons to be offended by my comments. You guys both need to actually read what other people are saying instead of jumping to conclusions
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:18 AM
0

The answer you gave me is not valid as you chose to answer a different question. No one was talking about fear on another person's behalf. I do not need to counter your response as it is unrelated to what I am arguing. I would like it if you would try to actually understand what I am saying instead of twisting what I am saying constantly. It's great that you care about children but it is an irrelevant tangent.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 10:16 AM
1

You asked why people said it.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:50 AM
1

They don't. Why are only women taught about keeping themselves safe from the other gender? Could you stop being so defensive and actually listen to what I am saying?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:47 AM
1

NO. I am explaining where the phrase comes from. Men are not taught to protect themselves from women. I didn't claim men are always the perpetrators. Could you stop being so fucking defensive and actually read my comments?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:46 AM
1

People who don't know about consent. I'm using a lot of insults because you're accusing me of absurd things and deliberately missing my points. You're so defensive.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:44 AM
1

It means to teach men about consent. You are a drama queen.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:33 AM
1

What programme? It is a response to women being told that they need to protect themselves. It is putting the onus on the perpetrator instead of the victim. Men being told to protect themselves from women is not a thing.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:32 AM
2

I never defended it. I answered your question about where the phrase came from. Are you stupid? Seriously, what is wrong with you? Why do you keep accusing me of these insane things?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:30 AM
1

I don't see where I justified it. How am I doing that? Are you fucking stupid or crazy?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:28 AM
2

No duh it's not a gendered crime. It still doesn't change the fact that women are taught how to keep themselves safe from men while the reverse doesn't happen. Reality doesn't change because you don't like it. I'm starting to wonder if you are on the spectrum.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:27 AM
2

I didn't defend it. I answered a question about the phrase. What is wrong with you?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:22 AM
1

No one said that was a safety tip either. I didn't justify anything. You're just too stupid to get my point. I have repeatedly said that everyone needs to be taught consent. Good grief, you are dumb.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:21 AM
1

Do you really need me to explain this to you again? Are you slow? Women get taught safety tips to keep themselves safe. Women, in response, are saying to teach men not to rape in order to put the onus back on the perpetrator. I'm not defending it by making it about women's victimhood. I'm saying that's where it comes from in the first place, you fucking idiot.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:19 AM
1

Because women are the ones who are taught safety tips. I already answered this multiple times. When do you ever hear of men being told how to keep themselves safe from women? Your last paragraph is absolutely absurd. I merely answered your question.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:16 AM
2

Pretending that is a safety tip is really dismissive of the kind of abuse women are trying to protect themselves from. Where the fuck did I justify that? I answer your question.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:14 AM
1

I'm not replying to you anymore. You keep making things up about what I'm arguing and acting crazy.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:13 AM
2

Are you mentally handicapped? I already answered this. Everyone should be taught about consent
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:12 AM
2

That's not a safety tip. Women have specific behaviors they engage in to avoid getting raped. Stop being absurd. I didn't defend targeting one group. Stop putting words in my mouth. God.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:11 AM
2

I'm not dodging anything. I am continuing my explanation of this phrase to you. I have answered your question repeatedly.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:09 AM
1

Would you see the issue with teaching white people and babies safety tips instead of asking everyone else to not commit crimes?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 09:03 AM
2

We didn't discuss sexual harassment. I'm not sure what you mean by program. It was a while ago.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:57 AM
1

No, I said that it is a response to women being taught how to be safe around men. It is a response that puts the onus on the perpetrator. This is specifically where that phrasing comes from. I thought you were legitimately asking a question about the phrase. I think all human beings need to be taught about consent. Saying to teach people not to rape is to teach them about consent not claiming that they're rapists in their natural state. You sound crazy.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:56 AM
1

Because women are the ones being taught how to keep themselves safe from men. Have you ever heard of men getting safety tips about women?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:51 AM
2

What happens when we don't teach women how to be safe? I literally explained to you in another comment that this is a response to women being pressured to follow safety precautions.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:50 AM
1

Ok, you keep making up ludicrous things to accuse me of and apparently aren't capable of understanding very basic points. You are acting like a lunatic. Stop putting words in my mouth.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:47 AM
2

I answered the question that another poster asked about that slogan. I didn't say it myself. You are making an absolute fool out of yourself. Fuck off.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 08:45 AM
2

In Canada,we discuss consent in sex education
/r/MensRights31/10/22 06:19 AM
1

I know it isn't. I always assumed lessons on consent applied to me too.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 06:14 AM
1

If you're talking about the protection of others, your point has absolutely nothing to do with mine and you shouldn't have been replying to me in the first place. My entire argument is based on the idea that this protective instinct does not exist among men? Wtf,?!? I never said anything like this. Come on.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 06:12 AM
1

I was just answering his question. I obviously don't expect people to stop committing rape. Maybe you should take note of the context before you start nagging.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 05:55 AM
1

How the fuck is it self centered to point out that a parent fearing for their children's safety is different from a woman fearing a man? Are you stupid?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 05:44 AM
1

We're talking about how he would protect himself. Because we were talking about how women protect themselves from men. He would have no reason to fear her himself. What is hard to understand here? What are you trying to argue?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 05:40 AM
1

But you can't transfer the danger to yourself. It's not possible. Everyone considers damage to children to be worse than damages to themselves. Get off your high horse. I am making a point about the experiences of women. The person I initially responded to compared these things but they are obviously very different. My point was that comparing the two things is nonsensical. Your last paragraph makes no sense whatsoever and I have no idea how to respond to it.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 05:28 AM
0

You're afraid of someone else getting hurt. You are not afraid of getting hurt yourself. It is simply not the same. A mother would feel the same fear as you. It is a normal parental fear. That does not invalidate the experiences of women. Thank you for the bizarre ad hominem attack. Me pointing out how two scenarios are different is not selfish. What an unfair thing to argue. You are a disingenuous, goalpost moving jerk. I obviously care about children.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 05:10 AM
0

He would fear her on behalf of his kids. Not himself. Are you deliberately missing my point here?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 04:51 AM
-4

What?!? I was making a joke. You are really childish.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:54 AM
0

What reason would a man have to fear a child killer? What safety precautions would he feel he had to take?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:26 AM
1

It is unbelievable that you don't know where this comes from.
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:22 AM
3

They build a career so that they can be normal, successful adults. It has nothing to do with attracting men. Where have you got the idea that women are building careers to impress men?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:19 AM
1

Because that's a response to people trying to teach women how to stay safe. Do you seriously not know the context of this?
/r/MensRights31/10/22 02:18 AM
1

I am well aware of the fat acceptance movement. I haven't encountered many of them demanding men look like supermodels.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:35 PM
1

You posted EIGHT different THREADS. It is unreasonable to demand that I read through them all and guess what you think counts as evidence.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:32 PM
0

Tell me what you actually want me to respond to in your sources. I am not reading through multiple threads because you're lazy AF.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:30 PM
1

How am I talking out of both sides of my mouth? I do understand cause and effect. I just have empathy for other people and don't demand perfection. You are a terrible person.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:29 PM
1

I didn't redefine child support. I clarified what I was talking about which is taking care of your own children. That's what adults do. Stop calling me a little girl, you absolute cunt.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:27 PM
0

I'm discussing a specific thing. You can either actually respond to that or not.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:19 PM
2

Yeah, you said you're a sahm. I don't care. Child support is money to support children, you fucking idiot. If you're a parent living with your child, you are already supporting them. Quit calling me stupid pet names, you condescending asshole.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:18 PM
1

My personal feelings? Most normal people feel this way. Go see a psychiatrist
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:16 PM
1

Cow, hippo, whale etc. Men are not routinely treated as less than human over their height. No. Everyone knows that you don't ask other people their weight. This is basic manners.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:16 PM
1

Some people have lives. Get to the point
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:13 PM
1

How about you actually provide evidence of your claims? Cite something. Anything. I am not watching stuff for you.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:11 PM
1

I am not reading all that.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:10 PM
1

Taking children from their mothers is simply wrong. You are not the morality police.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:08 PM
2

If you're paying for your kid, it is. Don't call me darling, you ass.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:07 PM
2

What the fuck are you talking about? Mothers taking care of their kids is good for society.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:03 PM
1

If you're married then you are paying for your kid, you doofus.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:02 PM
1

And that's why weight is an extremely sensitive area for people. I was explaining why it's not polite to ask someone's weight. Height is a very different thing socially.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:02 PM
1

Are you stupid? The first actual example you gave me was this random woman who apparently asked your height. Even that doesn't really count because I can't verify it. Everything else has been generalizations. Do you not understand what evidence is?
/r/MensRights27/10/22 04:00 PM
2

You want to punish people for having babies out of wedlock? Good grief
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:57 PM
2

I take care of my own responsibilities. You're an ass
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:57 PM
1

We're not discussing bullying.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:45 PM
2

Taking people's kids from them is not a good choice.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:45 PM
2

How so?
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:44 PM
2

I have no idea how this is a response to what I said.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:44 PM
1

We're talking about actual evidence of feminists saying what you claim they are saying. Quote someone. Provide an example.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:35 PM
1

Because people say cruel things about women who are overweight and treat them as lesser people.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:33 PM
2

Feminists write about how they feel all the time. How are you confused?
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:31 PM
1

Weight is a more sensitive issue than height for most people.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:30 PM
2

But you're still not actually giving me an example of a feminist saying that. You're referring vaguely to a group I am not familiar with. Women in real life also posts things online. Feminists write about their feelings and beliefs. If this was a common feminist belief, a feminist would have expressed it at some point. I also didn't ask for an example of women hating men.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 03:19 PM
2

I've heard of it. I haven't been there.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:30 PM
5

What happened yesterday? People get evidence of things others have said all the time.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:29 PM
1

She asked for an actual example.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:26 PM
-3

Any preference is oppression by men? I do not think that's what toxic masculinity or patriarchy means.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:23 PM
0

That's marketing.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:21 PM
1

If this is really happening that often, you should be able to give her at least one example. You're just making generalizations which are unhelpful.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:20 PM
2

I do take my own advice, you condescending jerk.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:08 PM
2

What are you talking about?
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:07 PM
2

But society will be impacted if that kid is not taken care of.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 02:06 PM
3

You don't want to pay child support for your kid
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:12 AM
3

Not if they gave me their sperm. You're being ridiculous and I'm going to bed. It takes two people to make a baby . Grow up.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:12 AM
2

It must be nice to be so perfect.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:10 AM
2

I'd rather pay more in taxes and have fewer abortions.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:07 AM
2

I'd rather that than abortion.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:03 AM
2

Getting pregnant can be completely accidental. I'm glad the law is how it is. Women shouldn't get punished for not wanting abortions
/r/MensRights27/10/22 07:02 AM
3

Or the dad could help.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:50 AM
2

Lmao. Feelings impact the facts here. Normal people don't want to tear families apart
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:49 AM
3

I don't think taking children from their mothers is a better solution.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:44 AM
2

Actually, you're just not being realistic. Even if you're right and the most logical person, you're not going to convince others their feelings don't matter. Life doesn't work like that.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:43 AM
3

You're extremely cold and unfeeling.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:30 AM
2

But I am saying we can do that by giving her welfare.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:29 AM
2

I wouldn't but some women wind up pregnant and aren't comfortable with getting abortions.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:28 AM
2

Society should make sure children are taken care of.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:25 AM
2

People go through bad financial times. That doesn't mean they should lose their children. You sound completely heartless.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:22 AM
11

People joking about your wife being a mail order bride is really rude. I'm happy for you and your wife. I can't imagine why anyone would say something like that.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 06:08 AM
1

We live in a society.
/r/MensRights27/10/22 05:11 AM
2

You're suggesting taking people's babies from them if they can't support themselves? Seriously?
/r/MensRights27/10/22 05:10 AM
1

It's pretty gross that that is what you got from 28 days later.
/r/MensRights25/10/22 08:51 PM
1

Um, yeah, it does. I'd rather be dead than getting raped over and over but that's just me.
/r/MensRights25/10/22 08:50 PM
1

And they don't consider women to be human beings. That is exactly what feminists are complaining about. Women are valued for their body parts. They are not treated as human. Thank you.
/r/MensRights25/10/22 08:47 PM
1

Saying that women are only good for sex is obviously misogynistic. I thought this was a men's rights subreddit not a misogyny festival.
/r/MensRights25/10/22 08:39 PM
1

I'm saying only a misogynist would draw that conclusion. You are a misogynist. I hope that clears things up.

Only if you're a misogynist.

Listen, women know that men attach a lot of value to whether or not they're getting laid and they say it specifically to hurt men. They're not saying anything about women.

You're bringing up 28 days later as an example of how all women have priority over men?
/r/MensRights25/10/22 08:03 PM

How does it do that unless you already have screwed up ideas about women?
/r/MensRights25/10/22 07:43 PM

How do you think this has been disproven multiple times?
/r/MensRights23/10/22 04:18 PM

Yes, he said men happen to end up in leadership positions for biological reasons.
/r/MensRights23/10/22 04:12 PM

That's what white privilege refers to. Do you not understand the terms you're using? Lmao.
/r/MensRights22/10/22 04:34 PM

Lol. You seriously think women were never oppressed?
/r/MensRights22/10/22 04:33 PM

Well, yeah, I just said it's gone. That's what the word changed means.
/r/MensRights22/10/22 12:37 PM

No, they don't believe that patriarchy existed in the past. They think women made it up.

So, someone in the thread claimed that more men were in leadership positions because of biology and then immediately blocked me when I asked how. Could anyone else possibly explain? You guys sure are resistant to outsiders.

What argument? I don't even know what you are supposedly talking about. What are you asking me for?

What is this biological difference that explains this, o wise one?
/r/MensRights22/10/22 03:25 AM

You seriously want to pretend like racism doesn't exist? Good grief.

There just happens to be? Are you seriously this naive?

Society changed from being a patriarchy because of feminism. They were excluded. Unfortunately some people wish we could go back.
/r/MensRights22/10/22 12:25 AM

I give up, dude. Clearly, everything bad that happens to women is women's fault and men are always victims. Who cares what quantitative data says?
/r/MensRights19/10/22 10:03 PM

I'm trying to explain to you how your views aren't consistent but you just don't get it.
/r/MensRights18/10/22 11:05 PM

I know it's on average. On average still means that a significant amount of women are doing something. Claiming that men in general do better because of women's choices implies that women in general are choosing to do those things. Can we move on? I obviously understand the concept of on average. You seem to just be nitpicking my phrasing.
/r/MensRights18/10/22 11:03 PM

But, in order for it to actually work as an explanation for why women consistently do worse, all women would have to do it. Otherwise, sexism is the obvious explanation. You sound so dumb but you're talking down to me. This is laughable.

You specifically referenced men doing better financially than women and referenced it as a reason why splitting things 50/50 wasn't fair in a divorce. Do you understand what is happening now or do I need to go over our entire conversation?
/r/MensRights18/10/22 10:36 PM
1

Because you used it as an excuse for why men do better than women financially. Are you following the conversation? Should I go over what we have discussed so far or can you scroll up?
/r/MensRights18/10/22 10:21 PM

I know it's on average. That's actually really, really obvious. What do you think I am arguing?

I doubt all women choose bad careers, work fewer hours, negotiate worse and retire earlier. It's interesting how you insist the wage gap doesn't exist while also acknowledging that men do far better financially.
/r/MensRights18/10/22 09:31 PM

Why are men more likely to have money and property? I thought the wage gap wasn't real?
/r/MensRights18/10/22 08:49 PM

Why is it that men are the ones with something to lose?
/r/MensRights18/10/22 07:08 PM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
