Are you sure the ex was crazy? Looking at this as an outsider, I see that your bf has only known this girl for a year and the friendship has somehow caused friction in two of his relationships. That’s concerning. I agree with the other commenter that it’s strange he was prioritizing a new female friend over a girlfriend. Personally, it is always a red flag to me when a man or woman pretend to be unaware of the weirdness they are causing through inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. …

This is actually really helpful, thanks so much for responding. I could see how he would be nervous to bring it up.

I’m in this situation right now (no talk of exclusivity yet). Not sure if I should attempt to bring it up myself or not… but it’s not fun.

As much as it probably sucks for OP to hear, your honesty here is actually why RPW is beneficial to women not just looking for answers but results. With that being said, OP did mention she’s a first time poster so I’m thinking she’s not super familiar with the community and maybe hasn’t done her reading… but honest reflection on her standards and whether they are too high for what she hopes to achieve (and on a quick timeframe) is so important.

For what it’s worth, your comment is actually not super far off. A lot more women here than you’d imagine have that same outlook, that it’s really about finding the rhythm that works best for your relationship instead of insisting on a more traditional dynamic just because it’s traditional.

I’m always surprised when someone says they were with someone for that long and were blind-sided by a breakup. I actually see this a lot on Reddit. Frankly, depending on how old he is, my first question would be why were they not married… I mention this because if a relationship is not moving forward, either party is frankly able to leave whenever and SHOULD if they are being kept from their goals such as marriage and/or children. I’m quite tired of men acting like they should be able to lock a …

At least in the U.S., I think part of the issue is that nobody is really teaching young men the value of having a wife and building a life with someone. I think people understand why marriage is important but I’ve known a lot of men who are approaching 30 and still think of marriage as something 5-10 years away, to the point that they shun good women who are looking for marriage sooner than that because they’re not ready. Instead of building together, I’ve known a lot of men who think of marriag…

No, even if you really trust someone, it shows poor judgement on their part. I remember with my ex, he mentioned once that he was the only man at a sleepover with a bunch of female coworkers. This was before we were dating, but I remember finding it very weird. I’m not sure even as a woman that I’d be comfortable having a sleepover with other female colleagues, so IMO, it showed a lack of professionalism and poor judgement on his part. There’s just a lot that can happen when you have people hang…

Yes, I think it all depends on OP’s feelings though. If she really loves this guy and feels confident he’s the one, I think it’s worth trying for a little bit longer and following your suggestion. For me, I didn’t have enough dating experience at the time to realize my ex was a special person who just needed a bit more patience from me.

I actually see where you’re coming from. My ex was having some mental health issues (nothing we couldn’t work through) and I think if I was patient, showed him the love he needed, etc., I’d probably be engaged right now. There may be something deeper going on here IMO or there may not be, but that’s really something for OP to figure out.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
