I would argue against the point that women have more opportunity to date up. There are more women getting higher education than men. It’s also rare to meet men that want serious relationships. I have been single for a year, and have had trouble finding educated, attractive guys that want long term relationships. We should have both said no to her ridiculous demand, but I didn’t say anything because I wanted to really see how far she’d go. You are totally right, stern is not the right word. Maybe serious would be better - serious about life. I do realize I do have awful boundaries and did not follow my gut on red flags. He did tell me he had a small business as a financial consultant, which sounded nice. I did prefer that over the 9-5 grind. However, after a couple of months I found out his only clients were his best friend and his ex girlfriends dad. Anyways, what a disaster. I will spend more time cementing my values before jump…

I love your advice here! How long were you with your ex, how long did you wait before starting to date, and when did the anxiety/heartbreak wean off? I just recently ended a relationship and I am trying to plan out my future and timeline. I am 30 yo - was dating my ex for 1.5 years.
