You know nothing of the girl, is she even worth it? "I don't want to screw this up" is selling yourself short, and putting you in an outcome-dependant mindset. Drop this. Talk to her about shit you want to talk about. Escalate by inviting her out to something you're going to do, and since this is seems to be college, just casually mention some mutual party she should "totally go to". Move on from there.
