They probably are rude enough to try to go 50-50 on anything you plan, or even expect you to cover it since it was “your idea,” even though they requested you put the effort into arranging everything. Imagine marching up to some man and demanding he plan and pay for a date for you when he hasn’t offered. Yikes.

Yeah I think a version of that might be: she’s visiting HIS city so he volunteers to show her around, and then he takes her somewhere nice, and then later performs cunnilingus (but honestly I’m not in favor of casual sex in general) But none of that involves somebody asking you to play tour guide for the day

I’ve asked men directly why it would be worth it for me to take my time meeting someone who’s leaving And they’re always like oh it will be FUN And I’m like…why is it fun to get to know someone who is leaving? Literally what is fun about it…? They just mean sex.

They’re busy worshipping SAHM and all of their sacrifices in the comments too, and I think the difference is that THOSE women are suffering like they should be. Whereas if a woman is getting what she actually wants it’s evil!

You have to be willing to be the housewife-slave of a POOR man not just a rich man!! Maybe you’re supposed to also have a job so you can contribute 50-50 at the same time that you NOT have a job so you can “stay home with the kids”

The anger at this woman is absolutely bizarre. She’s offering to play the role that many (most) actually-wealthy men want her to play. I did the exact opposite— I’m living the “girl boss” life & have a very high-earning and demanding career— and I totally respect this, except perhaps that it’s risky for her. (And Reddit men would be JUST as salty at me for my parenting preferences because my partner will be a more hands-on parent than I will and we plan to hire help.) These dudes are just freaki…

I saw a man comment the other day about a movement to “reclaim” the swastika symbol in the tattoo community. He was like “fuck fascists!” Which yes I agree: fuck fascists! But what you’re mad at fascists for is the fact that you can’t get a swastika tattoo without being judged? Like really, a whole world war and genocide later and this is the hill you wanna die on? He may very well oppose fascist ideology in general but the fact that anyone still wants to reclaim this makes them look like they h…

This is such powerful advice. When viewed through this lens, the vast majority of my relationships with men made my life worse, not better.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/10/21 10:25 PM

Seconded— I know her personally and she is an INCREDIBLE human being and a force to be reckoned with She also wrote a book about this called Nobody’s Victim which might also help you work through your experience, feel less alone in your trauma, and think strategically about what you want to do.

Exactly, it’s so forced. And then I’ve had a couple of them get disappointed that I’m not making more effort to stay in touch etc…and that’s actually a subtle problem because it turns out, “staying friends” kinda means continuing to use the women you dated as your emotional support system.

Ugh gross and you’re so right. Start breaking down boundaries about respectful sexual behavior and you end up with BDSM, “I’m coming out as poly,” CNC, “aCtUaLlY it’s technically ephebephilia” and god knows what else.

My opinion on this has changed over time. I think it’s important to be kind & decent about your exes— we all know “all my exes are crazy” is a red flag. But over the years I actually tried being friends with some of my exes, men who I genuinely liked & respected even though we weren’t compatible, and I just…didn’t want to. I had moved on from them and genuinely didn’t have the desire to maintain those friendships. I feel like that’s healthy. Why do you need that weird dynamic in your life?

The thing to me about “jealous/insecure” accusations is that it implies you’re being irrational about whether your man will cheat It makes no sense when the behavior you’re supposedly “insecure” about is literally cheating If you’re upset that your boyfriend is going to a strip club, looking at porn, or declaring that he’s poly & moving some sisterwife into your house, you’re not scared he’s going to be unfaithful, you just noticed that he already was!

My fiancé went on a bachelor trip for his cousin and when every other man went to the strip club he stayed back at the Airbnb by himself— and now he doesn’t keep in touch much with that cousin. There are absolutely HVM out there who have values and stick to them.

Many of them are successful career women too! Usually not quite at the same level but I know and admire a lot of these ladies. But we live in a culture where they think this is the “right” way to do things :( Like oh he’s ready to get married so now we’re going to get married
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/10/21 04:29 PM

One of the things I appreciate most about my fiancé is that he understands that my career comes first. He has a great 6-figure job, but I still have the “bigger” job (and I’d never want to marry someone with the same career/earnings as me because you truly have to make your career your top priority to achieve that, and I want my partner’s top priory to be our marriage and family.)

I went to an elite graduate school where my classmates were mostly male. During school, a small handful were married already, many were single, and many were dating someone. Within 1-2 years of graduation, almost ALL of those men had proposed to someone, whether they’d been dating 6 years or met after graduation. But each of those guys realized he had found his soulmate at the exact same time, right?

I so agree with this, and I’m so sick of people complaining that ghosting is rude, mean, cowardly, or even “sociopathic.” I bet every woman has had an experience of a man losing his freaking mind after being rejected, before she ever started ghosting anyone. I made the dumb mistake of wasting my time arguing on another dating sub about this, and the number of people who claim that everyone DESERVES a clear rejection truly shocks me.

I genuinely think men do this either out of laziness (excuse to not shave for a month!) or because they want to experiment with their look & see themselves with a beard, without having to admit it and risk seeming vain, or like they sincerely care how they look, god forbid.

Yep, it’s an absolutely deal-breaker for me. My fiancé has a head of thick, wavy, shining chestnut hair. He has much prettier hair than me. It’s the one thing everyone I’ve dated has in common

Not surprised, but the world is better off without him of course. I hope Gabby’s parents find some peace & closure in knowing that he’s gone. At least he won’t have the chance to disrespect her family and her memory by lying about her throughout a trial.

At that point, I wouldn’t be comfortable going ahead with this wedding unless we mutually agreed to skip having groomsmen/bridesmaids altogether, and no bach parties period. That way he could avoid being surprised 😇 But I’d want that to be HIS idea. It sounds like he probably already goes to strip clubs with his friends in instances that you don’t know about. I’m sorry.

I’d love to see you move out while he’s gone. I realize it’s tough financially but I promise it would be worth it. Re: the rent/breaking the lease, does anyone know if one option, and I know it’s risky, is to just refuse to pay him? OP would need to evaluate for herself whether her ex & the landlord would bother coming after her or just decide it’s not worth the hassle though…but I’ve heard enough stories of deadbeats doing this & getting away with it so.

Sally Rooney is the author of one of my favorite pieces of writing of all time— her essay “even if you beat me,” which was about her experience being the world champion at debate. She actually was the best in the world, and won the world championship! I was so impressed with that, and with her writing, and with a central theme of the piece, which is about owning your abilities and best-ness as a woman. The advice in the post is transactional and advocating for selling yourself to someone much older in exchange for resources, based on a scarcity mentality that you have to either settle for immaturity or settle for prostituting yourself to a gross old man That is not FDS

My fiancé and I are both in our early/mid 30’s and we’re “fully grown up” I assure you. If you’re still “growing up” in your 40s and beyond…yikes. It’s lovely to grow as a person throughout your whole life, but pretending it’s a binary between “immature young man” and “sagging old mature man” is sad.

There are better ways to get money in your life than prostitution, and they’re actually easier. I’m a self-made female millionaire in my early 30’s and I’m marrying for love. My fiancé is a high-earner too, and only 2 years older than me. He’s a tall, handsome man with an amazing head of hair and a big thick dick and he’s a kind, thoughtful sweetheart. I didn’t settle on one single thing I wanted and I’m sure glad I didn’t settle for prostituting myself to old “rich” (probably not even that rich…

I literally don’t even believe a man like this that she cheated. He sounds delusional and selfish AF. Even if she did, well…if that’s what she needed to do to extricate herself from this situation, I can have some sympathy.

Go for someone with a good heart, who sees other people as full human beings— especially people who are more vulnerable than him. Even (especially) if he’s been raised to assume he can just bulldoze these people, but instead he shows empathy and respect. I think men like this are more common among centrist, liberal, and progressive men, but men all over the political spectrum can fail at the basic “I see other people as real human beings” test

Yes! Meanwhile the simple fact is that almost any woman who wants to get married certainly has the option to receive an engagement ring as long as she doesn’t lower her standards. So why settle for not receiving one if you do want one? It’s a lack of confidence and nothing more. No one is “missing out” on a good man who would be a perfect husband with the one little catch that he won’t buy a ring. If he won’t buy a ring, he’s either cheap/selfish and won’t ever prioritize your desires above his …

Unfortunately FDS could never have “good PR” because the strategies here strike at the foundation of male supremacy over women. And whenever anything threatens the dominance of a more powerful group, they’ll find a way to frame it as evil and disgusting.

Seriously. This was 70 years ago. Most of these men went and worked in an office that he left by 5pm, while he was there he wasn’t on a computer all day and he had secretaries to help him, once he got home he never had to answer an email in the evening, and he could support his whole family with that job…what on earth is the problem?

I’ve developed a hard-won comfort level with just sitting on my ass sometimes and not feeling guilty about it. The way men AND women are conditioned about this is such a mess. I think it’s messed up to be “man at a dinner party” level of useless and entitled, but it’s also a leftover bit of patriarchal conditioning to feel, as a woman, like everything is your responsibility. Sometimes it’s not my turn, not my job, not even my business and I’m going to sit there in my peace. So I love this!

This man needs serious therapy, for his wife’s sake. I have a pinch of sympathy for him because he clearly doesn’t want to feel this way and the pornified society we live in got him here. But! He has to take responsibility. We all know it’s porn. He should have made sure he dealt with his issues with women’s bodies BEFORE he had a kid. He also should never have sat on his as for 13 MONTHS failing to satisfy and appreciate his wife until she gets upset and hurt and suspicious without going right …

I’m sorry that these men keep foisting this garbage on you! There absolutely are people out there with strength of character, who stick to their values. I think the idea that every man will cheat if he has the chance is overly pessimistic; if that were true there’d be no point in dating or relationships at all. I hope single women will focus on vetting versus just accepting this.

Because one of the functions of living in a society is that you naturally meet people in an appropriate context— usually! You’re going to run into people who you have something in common with. Survival rate is going to be a % of people who survived, not a hard # of people who survived. So that accounts for men outnumbering women in these situations— of all total women, what % survived, etc.

I think it’s the idea that younger guys don’t want to settle down. But you’re much better off being a man’s first deep, true love and having him excited to propose in his 20’s than some 30-something who is desperate to lock something down. Men propose in their 20s all the time.

Wait, I think that’s a good thing? If you don’t care whether your partner desires you or not that’s a rapist mentality. Men should lean into this by: pursuing women who are actually interested in them, taking care of themselves so that they are desirable, behaving in desirable ways, making sure their female partners are turned on for sex and enjoying it. This is in your hands fellas!

I think that just depends on all the people involved. An HVM with kids who was widowed etc certainly isn’t unworthy of love or a bad person, but think of all the emotional baggage that comes with that…someone grieving a beloved dead wife, raising kids on his own, probably traumatized. The question to ask yourself is: is this my top-choice situation or am I settling because I don’t think my top-choice situation is attainable for me? Maybe to a woman who is widowed or divorced with kids, a man who…

I have been period-shamed exactly once in a relationship and I told the man that he had no business dating women & should try his luck with other men, and left his house without another word. He later complained that this comment “hurt his feelings” and that he was “worried he’d never see me again” — which just goes to show that I should never have let him see me again.

Absolutely not. Men are human beings. They are capable of being honest, being loyal, and having strong moral character. Some people are also genuinely monogamous. It’s just that people who aren’t naturally monogamous are really, really convinced that everybody else is faking it.

It might sort itself out as your hormones change a bit with age/the novelty wears off. But honestly, you just need to make a firm decision within yourself about what your boundaries and priorities are, and then stick to them, especially when it’s challenging. Sex is no different from anything else in that sense. (I had a crazy high libido in my teens like you’re describing, but I had sex for the first time at age 20, in a serious relationship.)

Agreed! Paying the bill isn’t compensation for being a woman, it’s a vetting opportunity. These little things are a signal of what the entire relationship will be like. Fights about finances are one of the leading causes of divorce. You don’t want to be with someone who has a tit-for-tat mentality, who is bitter or resentful, who views relationships (or finances) as you vs him. You want a man with a big, happy heart, who is eager to show you he values you, and who will stay eager to be caring an…

The difference between a woman who fucked 100 people and a man who fucked 100 people is that the man had to hurt a lot of people to do it. Can a man like that change what he WANTS? Sure, happens all the time— men get older and want a partner, a family, a home. Even PUA “gurus” have settled down or found religion. But what they want is their problem, and not the important question. Can a man like that change his behaviors? That probably depends on the individual, and again I don’t think it’s the …

Well, exactly! That’s one of the reasons I hate OF and I’m sad about what’s going on there! In addition to being exploitative on its own, it’s absolutely a funnel to prostitution. And some of the girls who ruined their futures doing OF are absolutely going to switch to escorting now. Or stripping and then prostitution. Or “sugaring.” And from what we hear from women who escape that life, those “husbands” are going to (TW) rape them, force them to do anal, strangle them, or worse. So I’m sorry to…

Your engagement ring should be the most expensive thing he’s ever bought (for himself) in his life, and 2-3X more expensive than anything he’s planning to buy (for himself) for at least a few years after the wedding. In college I volunteered at a “feed the homeless” charity— we would be in the kitchen making these meals and it was really fulfilling work. Unfortunately they had the volunteers (including teenage girls like myself!) working alongside homeless men & men with criminal records. These other workers weren’t drug addicts or obviously mentally ill, just people who had fallen on hard times or made mistakes, and they were trying to re-enter society. The idea of this place was to help these men get some …

I think he kinda DOES need to meet you at your income level, or close to it. Money is the most potent, distilled form of power that exists in this earth. Money is a tool for enacting your will on the world. If you have enough money, you can just decide something, and make it be true. I started earning serious money in my early 20’s and it changed absolutely everything for me. Now thanks to some good investments, I am a wealthy person. Not “do anything I want and buy elections” rich but “could li…

You can actually report him to LinkedIn themselves, since he’s using their platform to threaten and harass you. He deserves to be banned from the platform for that.

Seconded the police report. If he does try to slander you, having already filed one should help.

I totally thought this was going to be about Philip! I’ve never heard of DMX and it seems like I should keep it that way.

Random aside, Amy from Gone Girl helped cement a breakup with a NVM ex: we watched it together and sat there at the end kind of shell-shocked, both seeing ourselves and each other in the roles, both certain we needed to just break-up before I pulled something like that. This was a long time ago; I obviously should have just left him much sooner. I’ve been compared to Amy a few times and I’m always flattered, TBH. Rock on with your color-coded sticky notes Amy.

Yeah I’d love to give her money for a legal case, therapy, safe groceries... I’ve prioritized my own financial well-being for a long, long time and I could easily afford to. I know a lot of other FDS queens have their finances in order and might feel the same way.

Thank you, I needed to read this today. I’m in the process of cutting a toxic male friend out of my life (and wondering if the “no male friends” camp might really be right...) I’m proud of myself for ruthlessly cutting him out for his attitude towards women (and children 🤢) and his reaction of sending me a long, mean email only reinforced that. But there’s still a part of me that’s tempted to break no-contact, because it’s recent, and he’s a manipulative narc, so it’s not as easy.

I live in one of the most expensive cities in the US and I can’t even have dinner at a real restaurant for just myself for $50 unless I’m drinking water. But the solution in that case...is to earn more, and go on fewer dates, with women you’re actually eager to pursue.

The night I met my fiancé, it actually was champagne at the Ritz. Literally. Why settle for less? (We had a meet-cute in person at a benefit for the arts, not OLD. But yup, it was at the Ritz. And yep, he offered me champagne and that’s how we had our first conversation!)

Fuck this so much. I honestly deleted uber over this. Making small talk with strangers is tiring and uncomfortable, and I refuse to make chitchat on demand with every Uber driver. All I ever wanted was a silent ride, and I was happy to pay for it. I tried everything to convey this, hoping I would find the magic formula where I could have a silent ride without anyone getting pissed off. I tried smiling and saying “I prefer not to chat if that’s okay” and “I could really use a few minutes of quiet…

“Tall” huh— this dude is probably calling himself “tall” at 5’10 or something. (Random side note, I actually ran into Trump in person at a charity event a long time ago and he doesn’t SEEM tall in person. And when you see pictures of him he doesn’t really look tall IMO? He manages to be so dumpy that it negates it!)

Yeah I know it’s not really relevant but this might be the ugliest man I have EVER seen? Just looking at him is disturbing, watching his (neck? fat? ew) wobble and quiver as he talks was revolting.

Yeah if someone I was dating needed to call his exes to gloat...we wouldn’t be dating one second longer.
