I'm enjoying the gym so I don't see that being a problem, occasional times I feel like I can't really be bothered to go but I just force myself to get up and go. I'm not so good at running and find it difficult, but if I man up I think I'll manage it, I did run 5k a short time ago so I don't think 10k is too much of a stretch for me. Something else people may find helpful for the first point (working out at the gym) is the fitness subreddit. It helped me quite a bit when I first joined a gym. If you want to get into running, there is also a running subreddit and the C25K running program for beginners.

This is a good point, I've often had more success with people when I've attempted to talk to them about their interests as opposed to my own. I read Dale Carnegie's 'How to win friends and influence people' a few months ago, and he mentions this. He makes the point that people love to talk about themselves and about their interests and if you engage them and encourage them by showing interest then they will like you more for it, even though you haven't really done anything other than listen.
