Actually I suspect it is a gendered phenomenon, but with enough overlap (like many gendered differences). Men and boys tend to be more engaged with objects and constructs, women more engaged with people. Basically, Mansplaining vs gossip. Men are on the whole more fascinated with facts, taking things apart and putting them back together, testing theories to see if they work and have future applicability. Women on the whole have more interest than men in people, feelings, and relationships. As in…

"Endless stream of useless facts" I'm tickled by the brazen honesty here. Feminists, you're not supposed to admit that facts are useless to you.
/r/MensRights08/04/17 06:13 PM

It is from her 1975 book Against Our Will, I imagine the source is given there. I don't believe it is. This book did however wind up being the end-point to most references when a group of folks tried to play "the citation game" and actually track down where that statistic comes from. Lisak 2010 found 6% false accusations on a campus, and accepts the 2%-10% range. He comments on some other studies, particularly Kanin 1994. Easy reading. Do you find Lisak's study to be a credible reinforcement of …

By the way, the 2% number is an unsourced quote from a Susan Brownmiller book which has been cited back and forth so many times that it's now just part of the feminist stew. It's not from a study, or from crime statistics of any sort. It appears to be made up, since she's been asked about it since and failed to provide any attribution.

You don't need 20 minutes to dismantle these. They're essentially ad hominem attacks. They are saying that one side in a disagreement shouldn't have their arguments examined; not because the arguments lack merit but because of who is making them.
/r/MensRights15/11/16 09:56 PM

Having had one, I can tell you that it describes the very concept you seem so eager not to consider, and which other posters in here have tried to enlighten you towards: Guilt or innocence in a court of law is not a binary yes/no proposition. It is a matter of threshold. In most criminal courts, the standard of evidence is "beyond a reasonable doubt". This could be thought of as 97% convinced that the defendant is guilty. The evidence and testimony are strong enough to show that the defendant is…
/r/MensRights12/11/16 09:52 PM

No, they only say "guilty" or "not guilty". The "beyond a reasonable doubt" bit is left to be intuited and understood by folks, assuming that they've had the benefit of a 5th grade civics class.

Well then you're not being entirely honest when you ask us to show up as "neither" pro-Trump or anti-Trump. Clearly you were hoping to put together a contingent of MRA's as specifically Trump supporters.
/r/MensRights12/11/16 08:09 PM

No. Not guilty = not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Also, guilty = guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Jury verdicts are about threshold of evidence rather than a binary guilty/innocent proclamation.
/r/MensRights12/11/16 07:49 PM

Really? Because you posted another thread in r/LosAngeles specifically calling for MRA's to show up as Trump supporters. Right here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/comments/5cj2k2/introducing_mens_rights_la_the_new_mra_group_in/

I don't think that either pro-Trump or anti-Trump protests are appropriate fodder for this sub. We're about men's rights issues and I think it's too early to say how these will be affected by a Trump presidency. If you are genuine, please stop trying to conflate Men's Rights with support for Donald Trump or indeed any particular candidate or party; it is a disservice to the diverse range of people, ideas and politics here. If you are not genuine, please stop. We've had people in here before atte…
/r/MensRights12/11/16 07:34 PM

She's right. Defendants accused in court are found to be either guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, or not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Juries do not issue verdicts of "innocent".

It's for this reason that I recommend that young MRA's (and specifically ones who are subject to school policies and rules) refuse to be alone with a girl in a sex-can-happen situation unless both can agree on safe words. Both should text in clear English to each other: Their chosen safe word. Their promise to use it if they feel the need to halt any sexual or romantic activity. Their promise to respect the others' use of a chosen safe word. I believe that this is a good solution because it work…

If the only stipulation is the requirement to use gender neutral pronouns, it might be fun to start referring to every single person as "it".

Here's a response that might serve: The study actually found, that overall (when compared within career paths, and majors – not just comparing lawyers with librarians) women earn approximately 82% of what men earn. This is actually the same type of misrepresentation of statistics that plagues nearly any feminist or feminist-inspired analysis of gender-based income disparity. When well-intentioned feminists read this, what they see is "fine, you want an apples-to-apples comparison? Here's one, wo…

Oh my god, a major news magazine actually takes a look at the statistics and asks the same question we have been for some time: And now the real surprise: when asked about experiences in the last 12 months, men reported being “made to penetrate”—either by physical force or due to intoxication—at virtually the same rates as women reported rape (both 1.1 percent in 2010, and 1.7 and 1.6 respectively in 2011). In other words, if being made to penetrate someone was counted as rape—and why shouldn’t …

I'm not suggesting it include entire reviews, just choice quotes. Part of the movie's narrative is about how unfriendly traditional media and funding structures are towards the MRM. I think this would be underlined beautifully for the viewer if, immediately after watching an objective documentary, they're treated to the harsh words of critics, often failing to respond to the points actually raised in the movie or basically saying "yea yea sure, BUT feminism feminism patriarchy"

This interview fails to address the biggest question I would ask of Mark: Throughout your ordeal, your name was shared via media as an alleged sexual molester. Despite the lack of any corroborating evidence, and the presence of exculpatory evidence (the CCTV footage), your accuser has remained anonymous. Would you like to state the name of your accuser on-camera, for the benefit of the public record? If not, why? Would you be subject to criminal prosecution or lawsuits if you did name the person…

What is the morality of a covenant between your god and someone who the covenant was forced upon? I'm serious about this. A baby has neither the ability to form an opinion on agreeing to the covenant, let alone consent to it. I have no interest in being a Jew. It's true, though I don't recall the name of the government program it was intended to cut down on the number of deadbeat dads. In theory it seems reasonable: The federal government remits the equivalent of 10% back to the states who are trying to collect child support... the money is intended to allow the states the means to hire more personnel to enforce collection orders (the new debtor's prison, but that's a discussion for another day). However, there's no absolute stipulation on how the sta…

I think that by and large the MRM is trans-friendly... at least in the sense of libertarian ideals, "It's your life, if you're not hurting other people, etc etc." I would temper your expectations of this community though, if your definition of "trans-friendly" requires an affirmative belief among us that a person who suffers from gender dysphoria is whatever gender they claim to be despite genetic test results. Honestly I wish that nothing about Ghostbusters showed up in this sub. The movie looks set to bomb and when it does I'm expecting to hear that "Men's Rights Activists largely responsible for boycott of new Ghostbusters film... why do men hate to see women succeed, in earnings, in politics, and even in entertainment?" Wow. To paraphrase: When men get accused, arrested or charged of a crime they didn't commit, it's not an attack against men (collectively or individually?). This infographic seems to be counting incidents of rape as a percentage of overall student population, including males. In the interest of accuracy it should only be counting the numbers of female students, since it is attempting to debunk a 1-in-5 claim of female victims. This would result in a higher rate of victimization but still ridiculously low number compared to the original 1-in-5 claim. Also this seems to be showing single-year stats of recorded rapes, and therefore would only represent…

Take it down and save it. Our side of the debate is gaining traction and years from now feminists will try to deny that (against the best available evidence) they portrayed men as perpetrators and women as victims nearly unilaterally. Make sure to teach your kids that the proper response to this is NOT to swing the pendulum back in the other direction but …

First Principles, man. If you're going to have an argument about feminism and provide definitions that you yourself choose, set out those definitions and agree upon them at the outset. 2 main reasons: Men who complain are seen as "less manly". Men aren't supposed to complain, they're supposed to either solve problems on their own or put up with things as is. There is some irony in this because complaining about problems or lack of rights is actually breaking a gender role for men, but the feminists who are supposed to be all about breaking out of gender roles don't like it when men complain. Feminism isn't (despite its self assigned definition) just about equality. It's also l…

This video's not awful, but I don't think it's a fair representation of "on the street". It seems that a fair amount of the women he's interacting with are on the clock, and would therefore be tuning their responses towards customer service and representing their employer well. Most folks who have worked retail are used to having to smile and shrug off odd or uncomfortable customer behavior.

Rutgers is also currently one of the universities conducting a survey to determine the frequency of sexual assault on campus. I don't know the contents of the survey, but it's unsurprisingly using self-selection instead of random sampling, which means it's already garbage in terms of actually measuring the rate of sexual assault. I wouldn't be surprised if, like so many other surveys we've seen, it asks leading questions and then assigns "rape/sexual assault" to yes answers even if the responden…

Regarding "no" vs safe word, safe word is better because studies show that a fair percentage of women use "no" as a token form of resistance even when they want sex, because they don't want to seem slutty or want their partner to take charge or use charm to overcome their initial objections. Simply put, with some people "no" isnt an unambiguous lack of consent. Agreeing on a safe word is specific, unambiguous way for two people to communicate consent or the lack of it, while still allowing for t…

Actually, the BDSM community has quite a bit to offer to college age males facing the prospect of sex and social life on the modern college campus. More so than feminist-inspired talks on consent and campus safety like "She Fears You". Specifically, the use of safe words. College males particularly should be encouraged to use a safe word with all their partners, and to walk away from sexual encounters unless their partner first texts them with "I choose (x) as our safe word, and I promise to use…

In all honesty, I think the kinds of people who donated to her have received exactly what they wanted: Reinforcing a preconceived narrative of female oppression and toxic masculinity. A vague feeling of "girl power" because this poor harassed girl was able to emerge victorious despite her online bullies and succeed in meeting her kickstarter goals. Satisfying a hominid urge to protect females and children from outside aggressors.

Sigh.... if you want to have fun with a feminist, challenge them to name 3-5 ways that society disadvantages men WITHOUT mentioning "men aren't permitted to show emotion and be soft". Freedom for men, from a feminist perspective, inevitably means freedom to express emotion more readily. From a MRA perspective, freedom takes on a much more practical perspective, as in "fewer males jailed for crimes." Women are, on average, sentenced to 66% the amount of time that men are, for the same crimes. We'…

I'd have to ask what you think are the pressures of the Hero Myth? I don't know if this answers your question, but I think that there's 2 main draws to videogames from the perspective of a male brain, particularly in adolescence. Sort of. It's not so much that it counteracts the message of men being expendable. I think it would be more accurate to say that games filled with danger and adventure and the potential for violence are a sort of catharsis. What I'm suggesting is that rather than being a training ground for later real-world violence, video games present a way for their…

I didn't state that violence was the goal, but it is often present in games, especially in "hero's journey" type games. Even cartoonish games like Super Mario Bros has you as the hero meting out violence to large amounts of opponents, and frequently risking your virtual safety jumping over deep pits, past spiked obstacles, and over burning lava. Even the "deaths" that the player experiences represent the all-too common ends for would-be heroes. It's only by experiencing these deaths virtually...…

Also, it should be noted that if the accuser was in fact sexually assaulted by the accused, they too have been let down by this college's adjudication system. Criminal trials must show guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt,” but on campuses a higher standard of “clear and convincing” evidence has been utilized. One common rhetorical tactic used by people to minimize male victims of rape is: "Sure, lots of men are being raped, but in prison BY OTHER MEN." This is a faulty argument for 2 reasons: Since we don't count it as "rape" when a woman forces, coerces or threatens a man into having sex with her, this conversation has a dishonest starting point. He may not be informed of the recent (2011?) FBI re-definition of rape. Prior to this, men were not counted as rape victims at all, even when penetrated against their will by objects or other men's penises. Even though this is a step in the right direction, I think it's notable that the re-definition involved consultation with women's advocacy groups and resulted in a definition of rape which specifically excludes women who force, threaten or coerce men into having sex with them.

From a Criminal Justice perspective, she's half correct. Legally, a man can be raped if his perpetrator: a. is another male b. uses an implement to penetrate him. If it's a woman who forces, coerces or threatens him into having sex with her however, our (USA) justice system does not yet consider it to be rape. You or I might disagree and say "but it's still rape", I think MRA's should be careful to distinguish between what we consider rape and what the law does. Why? Clarity of communication. We…

Erection, orgasm.... these are symptoms of arousal and perhaps desire, which are each distinct from consent. Laws regarding rape (in the US at least) are geared around lack of consent rather than the presence or lack of arousal.

I think you should broaden your definitions of "objectification" beyond the merely sexual. -Objects lack agency. They are acted upon. No one blames the boulder which rolls down a hill and damages a house. They instead ask how the boulder might have been dug up, drilled apart, maybe detonated into smaller rocks.... how could it have been prevented from rolling down the hill. Objects are acted upon. -Agents are people. Agents enforce their will upon the world around them... not always successfully…

In fairness, I have to give the feminist movement credit for being so very good at crafting terminology. They keep saying that words matter, and they're right of course, but they follow up the sentiment with actions... as a result we see examples of crafted terminology like this come up. "Benevolent sexism" is a really great word-weapon, because it simultaneously implies that: At least when sexism benefits women, it's good and kind in intent or effect. I think the best way to address a the concept of "benevolent sexism" when it gets raised by a feminist is to ask why sexism which benefits women is "benevolent" in intent or effect, and sexism which benefits men is just sexism. DNA testing should be standard practice in hospital births, but opt-in, and state laws should not allow the "father" part of the birth certificate to be filled in unless he is present and consents to it. In cases where the mother claims that a man is the father and he doesn't wish to be listed on the birth certificate, "Father" should be left blank until court proceedings can determine paternity.... at which point a DNA test will probably be court-ordered, rather than opt-in.

I disagree, and although "Men Going Their Own Way" is more bulky, it encompasses men who do opt for marriage or long-term relationships as part of going their way. One of the greatest strengths of the phrase is that it makes fairly clear that MGTOWs may share some core principles in common but choose a self-directed life that works for them. What Sarkeesian and other Feminist critics also ignore (to the detriment of their analyses) is that the "sexist" subtext they see in video games can be taken either way: (Feminist deconstruction): Women are overwhelmingly portrayed in games as helpless and needing of rescue by strong, capable male protagonists. The biggest difference between the MRM and Feminism is that the MRM does care about women's rights..... their RIGHTS, not "Equality". We want everyone to have equal rights; Feminism is so invested in a) maintaining the narrative that women are nearly universally worse off and that b) therefore, Equal Rights isn't enough. This TED Talk is a good start Even if you can't convince her that the wage gap myth is largely massaging numbers to fit a predetermined narrative, you owe it to the conversation to step out into this territory: Feminism is about equality, yes? (I'd be highly surprised if she answered anything other than "yes") What would be a higher priority for you; achieving female parity in earnings, or addressing elevated occurrences of workplace injuries and deaths of women? What if I told you that 70% of w…

Actually this does have the potential to affect MensRights. It's an open invitation for people with partisan views to start a false flag operation trying to spam and cheat upvote content from Mens Rights websites in an attempt to ultimately have those sites banned for gaming the system.

The males of this school clearly have an obligation to join and co-opt the Men Can Stop Rape club. The club's new agenda? Recognizing and highlighting the problem of men who are raped, in any circumstances, by perpetrators of any gender. Using male voices and advocacy to stop rape..... of men. Petitioning the state government and FBI to correctly define rape as including rape OF men, BY women. Getting the FBI to highlight the hypocrisy of its statistical methodology by including "0" for statisti…

I enjoyed especially the part where he talked about the successes of VAWA by talking about the percent increase/decrease of violent crimes against men/women, while ignoring details like the numbers of victims in each category, men/women.

It's on NOW's website in the same manner that "non-binding resolutions" are pumped out by the UN on any number of human rights issues which it won't actually send troops out to correct. The point is that when feminist groups feel that women are being disadvantaged, there are marches, protests, appearances to discuss the issue on news programs, and pressure put on politicians. When feminist groups even see issues where men are disadvantaged, the most that will happen will be several editorials an…

The term "Deadbeat Dad" includes fathers who never wanted to have children and who would have opted for plan B, abortion, adoption, or leaving the child no-questions-asked at a safe haven....all options available to mothers. Legal Paternal Surrender would have allowed them to continue living their lives rather than owing money to help raise a child they did not want. Notice that the subtitle indicates that the money is owed to the mother, despite the way that courts characterize child support as…

This is the most hilariously unintentional parody of feminism that I think I've seen. It's like the scientology episode of South Park, it just needs the words flashing constantly on the lower half of the screen. "THIS IS WHAT FEMINISTS THINK THE WORLD IS LIKE. THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT LIFE BECOMES MAGICALLY EASIER IF YOU HAVE A DICK"

Since the definition of rape by the FBI still excludes women as perpetrators, she does not require consent.

I understand men, when it comes to domestic issues, get the short end of the stick. This isn't just because of feminism. Men are quick to blame women for cultural biases, instead of holding the other half (you) of the population responsible for also continuing those assumed cultural norms. I just noticed that I didn't respond to this, so I'll put this in separately. Again, at the risk of playing spokesman to a diverse group: No, you're correct. When men have the short end of the stick on issues …

Your s/o is not only assumed to be competent at these things. He's expected to be. Think about that. He's also expected to see to it that you and your children are taken care of. He's expected to place himself bodily between you and harm. If you and he get into a heated argument at a bar and you slap him, none of your female sisters will pull you away from him and beat the shit out of you "because you never hit a man". If you slap him and he hits you back, he'll be lucky if the police are the fi…

By "fair rights", do you mean "equal rights", or "elevated rights in order to correct a nebulous perception of inequality"? This is important, and a talking point for the MRM. As an example, could you name rights or services/programs that are available to men but which women are specifically barred from? If you asked folks in this subreddit to name programs/services or rights which are female exclusive, you might be surprised at how well women have things. I'm speaking as a US redditor; your sit…

Be an advocate for equal rights. Realize that even if what you did would count as rape to feminists if the genders were reversed, that law enforcement would not register these acts as rape. Feminist organizations cheered the "victory" of having the FBI revised their definition of rape for the first time in decades, while remaining either willfully or ignorantly silent on the fact that their "victory" involved still having females categorically excluded from being capable of rape. One of the bigg…

The title is incorrect, it's actually a girl being bullied by another girl (and her laughing friends, composed of both girls and boys). Presumably the stance would have to be: "When one girl bullies another girl, they are BOTH victims because even the aggressor is simply unconsciously reinforcing culturally determined norms of attractiveness and gender roles."

I think it's possible that this could be a simple case of one project having a much better return on investment than the other. Tropes v. I don't think this is an apt comparison. Felines have evolved so that males have backwards-pointing barbs on their penises, which are thought to have a triple function: Scraping out sperm from any competing males Injuring the female's vaginal cavity to an extent so that she's unlikely to accept advances from other males for a period of time. Stimulating the release of a hormone which causes ovulation. When the male is pulling out from her, he's actually injuring her, which seems counter-intuitiv…

"Men's rights" does not mean patriarchy. It means equality. At least, I think it does. I tend to think of Men's Rights as "Advocacy for equal rights, for men." To state it this way is significant in 2 ways: Equal rights does not necessarily mean equality of outcome. You can give everyone equal rights and still have vastly different outcomes in both negative and positive areas.... financial/political achievement, survival rates, likelihood of being a victim of a crime, etc. I used to argue (both …

While it might not actually provide equal rights to termination of pregnancy, it might largely solve many of the actual disputes that arise. I'd say there's definitely room for different opinions on this one. Something just sticks in my craw a little bit when someone announces an out-of-court settlement as a victory.... not for themself, but for a larger political issue.

According to the video, he settled the case which means he didn't win his lawsuit. One doesn't win a settlement, they agree to it, and the settlement leaves the question of the case untried.... in this case whether our society thinks it appropriate and legal to perform an essentially cosmetic surgery on boys who are too young to have legal consent.... or for that matter, even say the word "no" or fight back in defense. Starting a lawsuit from a moral highground and then settling out of court for…

I'm just curious, does the Men's Rights Movement have a platform as such? Does it have a list of areas where men are not being given equality? Does it make clear how it defines equality? Are supports of the Men's Rights Movement just as open to accusations of vagueness and a failure to call out and shame its more radical members?

I think the best response is to take the same tack as the guy who filmed himself asking anti-abortion protesters "If you think abortion should be illegal, than what should the punishment be for women who get abortions". In this case, "You're quite clear on the reasons why you don't support decriminalization of prostitution. If prostitution should be illegal, what in your opinion is the appropriate punishment for women who engage in prostitution?". I suspect that if the authors of the above comme…

Much like Global Thermonuclear War, this is a game whose only winning move is not to play. True, she's free to break her association with anyone she pleases, for any reason. The way she did with you is clearly fishing for a response. The fact that she's so transparently trying to provoke a response from you rather than communicate with you makes it unlikely that she's worth the continued pursuit. Any response at all, even an attempt at something clever which questions why an alpha female needs a…
