In general game theory (and microeconomics in general) breaks down when you throw in any sort of irrationality. In the first case the idea ends up being that denying yourself information is somehow optimal. While it's true that information can be bad sometimes (any sort of feint or bait depends on opponents reacting to information) as a general policy it can be kind of bad.
