There are two schools of thought on this. One is to change the subject but if she's passionate about this she may want to keep bringing it up. Another option is to try and use it to your advantage. Try to get a handle on her politics and find the hard lines so you know what not to cross. If she's against gay marriage and you're pro, does it really matter for the sake of an F-Close? If it does, bail now. If not, then see if it's a hard line. If you're still good and after an F-Close then try to p…

Boys become men when they Realise that women are not creatures to be put on pedestals but equals Treat all women with the absolute respect they deserve (based on actions, not pure gender alone) Recognise that the system will work against them on account of them being male Despite this will not blame the women they love personally for this situation, but will love their women more, unless it is acted out on them in person by said woman Will do the best they can to love their offspring Will suppor…

I would add that if this is a game in which there are multiple rounds, you need to work your 'game' into the game. It may be ok to lose for example if it's close won but it looks like you're letting her lose, then you deny that you're letting her lose, but in a way that makes her think that you're denial is to protect her feelings rather than the truth. At the same time, if for example the game is golf, then I'd work up a big lead at first, then help her with her swing a little, then let her cat…

Years ago in a pub I was with a mate and there were 3 girls, two HB7's and a HB8. The HB8 asked who was the best looking out of the group. My response was, "I know but I won't tell you." After much pouting and frowning the HB8 was getting worked up, so I said, "Me, of course!" I got laid by one of the HB7's last night, she said that the look on the HB8's face was the second best thing she'd seen all night after me.

There's a year's difference between the age of consent in Illinois and the age he was caught, if that's a matter of a few months and this isn't something predatorial then I think that while it's wrong there's no point in ruining both people's lives. It is possible to have a relationship with someone who's more than 10 years older than you, and at 16 he's certainly starting to learn about relationships. If it is predatory then she deserves everything she gets and then some. But this entire episod…

I would hit it like the fist of an angry god. But, and here's the thing folks, I'm of age. I can consent to such an act. The boy here in his state couldn't (although in my country he could) and regardless of hotness of said teacher, or the fact that in my country this would be legal (although she'd still lose her job) in Illinois this is illegal. Hopefully she'll get the punishment she deserves - although if there is a full blown relationship here I think that should be taken into account. While…

What double standard? If it was the other way around I'd be telling her to stick it out with him. It's not like she's sleeping around, his supposed life partner has a serious psychological issue. We don't know enough about the state of their relationship to make snap judgements about them. A man getting beaten or murdered on his way home is just a man who couldn't defend himself. A woman getting beaten or murdered on her way home is a sad tragedy that could've been avoided if a man was around to protect her.

There are nutters in /r/mensrights. There are nutters in /r/whiterights. There are also people who see injustices in both. I don't see a particular problem for people seeing injustices (right or wrong) to identify with other groups seeing injustices. I know there's a /r/blackpower - I wouldn't be surprised if some identified or subscribed to /r/mensrights too.

If we were to fight this, all that would happen is that the request stop programme would be cancelled. Then when some woman is inevitably raped/murdered/injured/inconvenienced we'd get blamed for it. I don't know Toronto very well, but I found it to be an extremely safe city compared to say, New York or London. I don't think this is fair, but I don't think this is a battle we can win - for me winning would be to have anyone in an unsafe area be able to call a request stop.

Am I right in assuming that there's a shortage of short people in his area or something? I have a friend who's 6'7" and he has a similar problem. Women in general seem to favour those close to their own height. He should go somewhere where there's a higher density of similar-sized people.

I realise this is /MensRights/ but I'm with you on this one as far as the law goes. Lets imagine a scenario where it's the other way around. You would not want the wife reading his email and using it against him in a custody battle. While yes, there's child safety issues involved, the route to addressing that must not breach the law or the guy is essentially asking for trouble.

I'd like to see her views 10 years from now as her bitter, twisted empty husk of a shell of life looks back on her failures as an instantly forgettable model that almost came close to nearly making it. The fact that OP used the term 'model' instead of her name (I can't remember without going to the link) shows how forgettable she is.

I can see what you're saying if you're in the top 2% but clearly she's not. Compare her to this girl. The girl I linked to is in the top 2%, easy. The girl in the OP is a ten a penny blond slut who relies on her tooth gap to somehow be attractive instead of being a sign of poor dentistry.

If you're a white male and you live in a poor area, you're just as privileged as the white guy that lives in a nice house with a big garden and a nice family. You were right to defend yourself after you were hit. Don't feel bad because you hit a woman. Feel bad because you could've avoided the problem entirely. Ask her questions about herself to kick things off and talk about her. Ask her about how her day was, what she did, what happened. When she tells you something that made her feel strongly, discuss negative things lightly and try to find a positive emotional reaction and associate yourself with that.

The simple answer is to stand your ground. Is the company seriously going to say, "Ok, in the event of a life or death situation the guys are all going to have to give way to the girls so the guys are more likely to die"? That's what it boils down to. As a policy it's completely unenforcible. What your managers should be doing is the opposite of what they're doing now, they should be trying to get people to put it behind them. Fires don't happen every day, but if the employees all have their nos…

It's slightly different in the case of adoption. Women can't give up their children for adoption in all cases and sometimes termination isn't an option. There's also the fact that if a woman gives up her child for adoption certainly here (in the UK) she'll be unlikely to ever see the kid again unless the kid once grown up tracks her down and tries to make contact. A financial abortion removes all parenting rights and responsibilities, but doesn't necessarily mean that things are put in place to …

Your option a) - is a full blown abortion. It involves a highly invasive operation and the death of the foetus. For b) - the father can't adopt. He's the father. There's no way for her to relinquish her rights and obligations on a permanent basis to him in most countries I know of. Yes she can put it up for adoption and opt out that way, but the father can't adopt his own child. All this is academic anyway. What I would like to see is the creation of a legal framework under which both parties ca…

I came here to post something almost identical. The only thing I'd add as a suggestion is this: Financial abortion is an option for either the man or the woman. When you think about it what's good for the goose is good for the gander. That's what sexual equality should be about.

There isn't a single image viewer that's going to execute ANY binary data in a jpeg. I doesn't directly affect the relationship, but sometimes, particularly in the down parts of the ups and downs of married life you do think about divorce and when I do I'm fairly certain that my wife is the kind of girl who would do things out of spite if she felt wronged enough, which is never healthy. Don't get me wrong, we do a lot for each other and we do love each other, but if it fell apart she's an emotionally driven person and I can just see lawyers taking advantage of that.

You seem to have missed my joke. I think the article is a pile of crap. I'm using labour as illustration of the idiocy of the article, but I think you're taking it rather literally. As for your claim about active participation, it's not like taking a dump. The woman does have to push to get the baby out and it will hurt like nothing they've ever experienced unless they're given some seriously strong drugs.

If there's a dispute, take it to the courts, it's what a legal framework is for. I guess that's probably not the answer you're looking for, but it would be what would happen in either case. Also, ask yourself how likely a female rape victim is going to want to keep the baby. Yes it happens, but it's rare. Is the female rape victim really going to want to maintain a relationship with the rapist for the support of the child?
/r/MensRights15/08/10 07:04 PM

I see what you mean entirely, and perhaps divorce is the wrong word to use. But when you consider the female alternatives - adoption or abortion and I think you'll find that whatever this is seems to be much better (as long as it applies to both parents).
/r/MensRights15/08/10 06:46 PM
3

Hmmm... I see where you're coming from but I think you're jumping to conclusions. Currently as it stands (at least where I live) the woman doesn't have to tell the man she's pregnant and can get an abortion without telling him. She can also split up with him even though they're not married and force him to make payments to her to support the child, regardless of whether or not he a) wanted the child, b) told him about the child beforehand. The man has no input on whether or not the woman should …

Divorcing a child in this sense would be a legal construct. The woman has the ability to have an abortion, introducing this legal construct may actually make her less likely to be pressured into an abortion she doesn't want. If the woman decides she wants a child, but the father doesn't (or is not aware of the woman's fertility, as a result of a lie for example) then it provides a legal male equivalent to an abortion without the bloody details. I would expect that such a legal construct would ha…

Interesting question. If it's realistic to expect welfare to be means tested then such a change in status (i.e. single parenthood) should in theory also be means tested and taken into account. If I could make a slight point though, shouldn't the state welfare be for the child? By this I mean a single parent is a single parent regardless of sex, surely it's a matter of the environment and what's best for the child that should determine the level of support?
/r/MensRights15/08/10 03:18 PM
36

No. But a parent should be allowed to obtain a 'legal abortion' themself from the child as an alternative (no rights to the child for the parent, no obligations for the parent to the child) within a predetermined pregnancy window. ** EDIT: ** I said man, In retrospect I meant either parent. I also used the term divorce, where legal abortion might be more appropriate. Apologies.

It's the pink triangle they force all the gays to wear in the US that clearly identifies them from straight men. (I'm joking up there. No, I didn't get the post's reference either - how the fuck do you tell a gay person from a straight person unless it's completely obvious?)

Hang in there. I'm sure she's bitter about it and will have said things just to try and provoke a reaction. She may feel embarrassed in front of the school, or as though you're trying to fuck up her plans. I think the best way you can beat this is to take a step back, try to figure out why she's doing what she's doing (without getting caught up in the emotion of it) and calmly and cooly decide what you're going to do that will get you the best result, and how you intend to do it.

Don't shit on your own doorstep/where you eat etc. is the general rule for this situation. It pretty much boils down to this. If you think that the benefits that would come with the run up to that situation outweigh the drawbacks, then go ahead. Otherwise I'd avoid pushing it further. It's ridiculed. Male on male rape is starting to become acknowledged but victims of women on male rape are told to man up, or that they're lucky. If they push it further they can easily become ostracised from society or the aggressor can flip it around and accuse the victim of rape in some cases.

...are you implying that women can't go to school/climb the corporate ladder and raise children at the same time? No. I'm not implying that they can't. I'm implying that many don't. There's a pay difference borne out of the act of child birth and time taken off. The man can take more time to raise the child instead of the woman but this will affect his chances of further promotion. For many families the man will in this instance have better prospects than the woman. As a thought experiment, cons…

There are a substantial number of reasons but none of them have anything to do with what the article said. The biggest reason in a nutshell is not that women are geared up to have babies, but that they can and men can't. Because they can, if they wish to have babies they have to be the ones that give birth. There's no reason why women can't then go back to work, but you try taking 2-5 years out of your career in your 20s-30s and get that top notch job. Seriously, what about the women who want to…

I think I could've worded it better, I meant cuisine as you mentioned. It's better to drill down enough to find out what she really likes but keep it open enough to surprise her. You make a very good point about allergies and vegetarianism - I've cooked for a girl once who hated garlic and gave her food with garlic in it. She never told me and didn't realise until she kissed me. Instant deal breaker. We hooked up later but it kind of killed things for her. (Yes I brushed and mouthwashed afterwar…

I think this is the right thing. One little change would be to engage her in the cooking, so cook with her not for her. Ask her what type of food/wine she likes beforehand so you can plan the right meal around it and go for it. Use fresh ingredients where you can and practice the meal several times before the date. I used to do this a lot and I never failed to get laid. In fact cooking a good meal for anyone is always well received.

Control over porn is to some extent used to exert control over men's sexuality by some groups. Women are supposed to be empowered and liberated. Men are not permitted to enjoy the same privileges in western society. When women use sex toys it's empowering. When guys use sex toys it's creepy. When women cavort with male strippers it's doing it for the gals, when guys cavort with female strippers it's sleazy. When women watch Twilight, read erotic literature or even watch pornography it's empoweri…

This is truly disgusting, but also disgustingly true. This is the real reason why we don't have gender equality. We cannot have true gender equality until all sides of the playing field are level, not just part of it.

This is a conference, not a counselling group. If it was a counselling group I could understand (providing there was nothing stopping an equivalent group existing for women if demand existed) but this is a conference, there will be many depression and mental health professionals who are excluded from attending by default and I think this is unfair. Men's rights is about anti-misandry and proper equality, not the act of making men more equal than women, regardless of the current state of affairs.

Absolutely. I'm really glad to hear someone else is happy. I hope you have fond memories of Vegas too. Incidentally my wife is (now) acutely aware of what a waste of money the rings were, but she's still glad she has them and accepts that she's been brainwashed by the debeers. It took a few years for it to sink in what that money could've meant for us in terms of experiences and financial security earlier on.

Haha, she is from a westernised culture you narrow-minded fool. Not all western cultures are the same. Care for a source on the 99% note, if we just put aside the implication that anything outside of the west is irrelevant from an MR perspective? As for bragging, no I'm not. I made a financial sacrifice for our relationship. She made a massive personal sacrifice for our relationship. Equality does not mean splitting everything 50/50, otherwise I'd live in Switzerland.

Congratulations about knowing nothing about my circumstances and the cultures involved yet still feeling as though you can make a judgement about my wife without knowing her. Culturally, divorce isn't an option (for her). Secondly, I live in a country where if I catch her cheating then in the event of a divorce I keep everything, not her. Thirdly if there's a divorce in general with no fault assigned then it's a 50/50 split by default. Yes buying 4 rings and paying for the wedding wedding sucked…

My wife and I talked about this a lot - I had to buy her 3 rings in total, one plain band, one single diamond engagement ring and one wedding band with diamonds on it. I got a plain band, I had to pay for it too. I also had to pay for the wedding (as was the custom in her country) but we compensated by making it smaller. Did I like it, no. Was it equal, no. Am I happy I'm married to the love of my life. Yes. He has to decide whether or not making her happy is more important than the cash. They c…

But is DV among gay men a gay rights issue or a mens rights issue? Did you spot the trap? DV is an issue for everyone, not just men. It's that the recognition of DV against men is lacking and that goes for all men, gay, straight and furry.
/r/MensRights19/03/10 08:30 AM

Not for me. Men's rights are an issue for all men. Gay rights are for gays. Ginger rights are for gingers. A man's sexuality does not become a rights issue for all men, but a rights issue for people fitting the scope of that sexuality.

Am I wrong in saying that they both got 7 and a half years? If I'm not wrong then I'm not sure what the issue is here. If I am wrong can someone spell it out to me? It appears to be a wording issue in the article to me.

I would say this is what it is in a nutshell. The tories (Conservatives) don't want to alienate their core vote and believe that a family unit should include a father but they're trying not to exclude single parent families, the majority of which (for various reasons) have a mother but not a father. If it was a father without the mother there then it wouldn't speak to the people that they're trying to reach. It's not really an MRA issue as it's a political campaign targeting women with kids. The…

I'm not sure that this is solely a Men's Rights issue, judging by TFA it seems that women inmates are being raped too. A terrible crime, certainly but not exclusively MR related.

She should've just been extremely shitty about it and asked questions like, "Are you calling my husband a paedophile?", "Well why are you suggesting it then?" and so on as loudly as possible to make the woman feel uncomfortable. I can guarantee you that when this woman left she'll have told other people and made the same wise crack.

If you offer an equivalent deal for guys what will you get? Perhaps a better way of looking at it is that there is a market for a ladies' night (otherwise you wouldn't be doing it) but what market is there for a men's night and how would that appear? Perhaps a men's night might involve bar games like life-sized jenga, sports on the big screen (if there's no game on maybe something like classic boxing bouts for example?) and so on. It might be worthwhile asking married guys you know if they'd go …

That's a reaction right there. Lets say for example that your girlfriend/wife/boyfriend/pet rock is cheating on you and you find out. If you react immediately you'll never understand the reasons or causes. You could argue that they're just a slut (slutty pet rock!) but there's usually more to it. By taking a step back and understanding the causes of the situation you're in a better position to understand the consequences of your action and use this to shape the outcome that works out the best fo…

Because reacting to it (in an immediate sense) may cause more problems than taking a measured, calculated response. That measured, calculated response can include content to get the emotional elements out of the way too, just on your terms instead of theirs.

Can't upvote you hard enough. And that's the thing. If we could expose the hipocrasy and get men to realise the problems with the misandriatic element of this then we can achieve genuine equality (which I'm assuming we all want).

I agree that having no scheme (or policy or position) for male prisoners is definitely a men's rights issue, it's probably important to put things into context. In the UK men and women are kept in separate facilities, all of which are overcrowded. Men are not being sent to prison due to this capacity issue. If this scheme is part of a general strategy to reduce prison numbers (where prison isn't necessary) then I for one support it and would recognise that a male offender programme may be separa…
