Hence, a fluid and arbitrary concept. Fluid concepts are not necessarily arbitrary. You have to understand that we are talking about categories of people, not single individuals. How else would you categorize the different groups in our economy if not by their access to the means of production? How can you be a part of one class in one moment, and the other the next, and then call history a struggle between capital and labor? Are you struggling against yourself? No. When you are a laborer you ar…

I am a laborer when I work for a wage. I am a capitalist when I hire you to do work and sell it for a profit. You are a laborer when you work for a wage. You are an independent agriculturalist if you use your tractor for yourself without hiring wage labor. Because I have the money to hire people but not the capital to live on the income from hiring people alone I am part of the petite bourgeoisie. Was it that difficult? I also noticed you couldn't come up with any of that fallacious utter nonsen…

Capitalists: people who get their income from owning the means of production. Laborers: people who get their income from selling their labor-power. Pretty easy, distinct definitions. And there are other classes including the petite bourgeois and the lumpenproletariat for your information. Perhaps your understanding of Marx's description of capitalism isn't as solid as you think it is. Do you think you could point out some of these "fallacies", this "utter nonsense", and the "tripe" you think you…

I would prefer to talk about that something else and I haven't changed the topic in this entire comment thread if you would notice. So, I did start that discussion a few parent levels up. Sorry I didn't go along with what everyone else wanted to talk about with this image.

It seems pretty obvious to me that your view is that what I have said in this thread is incorrect or off base in some way. Am I wrong?

It's pretty funny to me how everyone here doesn't see that I agree this is a poor definition of rapist but I'm simply using it to illustrate a real world point that doesn't match their ideology. Instead they want to continue beating the dead horse of what every other commenter in this thread has already said and ignore the fact that, technically, man means human being. If you're gonna take it as such when we're talking about man's great accomplishments why not take it as such when talking about …
/r/MensRights27/09/13 06:47 PM

The crux of the issue is that, technically, man means human. So, technically, the definition doesn't say that only men can rape. Sure, most people will probably get the wrong idea from this definition, but that's a problem that comes along when we make man mean human. Sure, we could probably fix the wording of this definition without fixing the definition of the word man, but that wouldn't fix the basis of the problem which is that this definition doesn't say that only men can rape even though i…
/r/MensRights27/09/13 06:02 PM

No, I don't think they will. That's why I think we should fix the definition of man. Then maybe we can fix this one when all the semantic technicalities are out of the way.
/r/MensRights27/09/13 05:46 PM
-2

Yes, the definition of man is poorly worded indeed. At least we can agree on something.
/r/MensRights27/09/13 05:45 PM
0

Well, yes, they are exactly the point. We are arguing the semantics of a definition on Google. Technicalities are all there is. Google defines man as a human being of either sex. So, when google uses the word man in another google definition shouldn't we go by google definitions of the word man?
/r/MensRights27/09/13 05:05 PM
-3

I think you're just having a hard time because this doesn't fit with your view of the current discussion. I mean, that definition says a human being. That means one human being. You can't really argue against that, can you?
/r/MensRights27/09/13 05:01 PM
-5

So, that google definition. You didn't look at it, did you? Here, let me help (emphasis mine): a human being of either sex; a person.
/r/MensRights27/09/13 04:55 PM

Yes, one human who commits rape. A rapist is not a group of humans who commit rape. Also, google the definition of "man" look at definition 2. Or just click this and look at definition 2. If we are going by google definitions...

So single parent adoptions are also misogyny? Not if the single parent chooses to adopt the child knowing that they will be raising the child as a single parent. Should adoptive parents have natural right to sue biological ones for child support? Searching really hard for that strawperson argument, aren't you? A woman has the right to abort or abandon(at a safe haven) her kids whenever and that is seen as normal and legal, why the fuck is the man choosing a similar option misogyny? How is lying …

Following this logic then, feminism can mean anything to anyone. No, following this logic, feminism can mean lots of different things to lots of different people. As it obviously does. I'm sure you can find some feminists than don't strive for equality of the sexes but instead the domination (or subjugation) of men by women. I'm sure you could. I wouldn't call them a feminist myself, but that wouldn't affect whether or not they called themselves feminists.
/r/MensRights01/07/10 06:26 PM
-8

It depends on which feminist you ask. Equality of the sexes, I guess. Beyond that, who knows. To repeat that quote: I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute.
/r/MensRights01/07/10 06:14 PM
-9

1) Do you believe everything you read? 2) If a popular feminist advocates the slaughter of the male gender she does not in fact represent feminism as a whole. No one feminist thinker can represent feminism as a whole because feminism promotes individuality and choice. I think this quote from Rebecca West puts it best: I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prost…

FACT: 50% < 56% It would be expected that 50% of domestic violence cases are perpetrated by women seeing as how women make up 50% of the population. Also, a website that claims hundreds of valid studies support their statistics but does not provide any of the studies does not count as a citation.

[He] had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie. This is the first punch. The writer could have easily tried to write a science fiction story without insulting the other writers character. It is as simple as that.

However, the female writer should have been game to complete the story without calling her counterpart a chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent. Perhaps if the male writer wasn't such a violent chauvinistic adolescent then it wouldn't have happened. /r/MensRights25/02/10 06:12 PM

This is a great example! One male in your class uses a different writing style than one female in your class, therefore all men and all women must be completely different. How could I not see it before, it is obvious. Men and women must come from different planets and be completely different species, why else would this one woman not like the blatant insult written by this man. If women and men were the same species then the woman would love being insulted, right?
/r/MensRights25/02/10 05:12 PM

If you believe that all men are equal or all women are equal than you are the one who is being naive. You should also note that saying you are coming from a biological and evolutionary standpoint does not give your nonsensical musings any more bearing. They are not based in science. The truth is that the variation among men and the variation among women is much greater than the variation between men and women.
/r/MensRights20/01/10 06:39 PM

You mean to say that all men are equal, and all women are equal, but women and men are not?
/r/MensRights20/01/10 04:57 PM

Well, then you must be saying that the variability among members of the same sex is greater than the variability between the two sexes. (Which is true.) But, then I don't really understand why you say: Women: be grateful, not greedy. Your sense of entitlement wears thin. Which just doesn't make any sense at all.

You should really just check out the book if your interested. The Myth of Matriarchal Prehistory: Why An Invented Past Will Not Give Women a Future is a 2000 book by Cynthia Eller, professor of Women's Studies and Religious Studies at Montclair State University, deconstructing the hypothesis of a prehistoric matriarchy as developed in 19th century scholarship and taken up by 1970s second wave feminism following Marija Gimbutas as mistaken, and its continued defence as harmful to the feminist age…

So let me try again. Louie Anderson and Richard Karn are not 'manly' men, they are too feminine, they are not masculine, they are effeminate, therefore they should not be a young boy's role model (I am assuming because we don't want to teach young boy's that being who you are is okay even if you are not 'traditionally masculine'). Ray Combs is somewhat masculine so he would be a better role model (even though he killed himself). Oh, and in order to be a 'real man' you need gray hair and a comman…

I am firmly of the belief that it is entirely likely that common stereotypes are societally constructed rather than biologically inherent. By raising our children with certain expectations based on sex, we are continuing a loop of constructed behaviours rather than allowing natural behaviours to occur. While there will of course be stereotypically masculine men and stereotypically feminine women based solely on biology, the question is whether our societal conditioning is changing the way some c…

Cool. But how does raising a genderless child = misandry?

What is the problem with alimony? (I only read the sentence I quoted then had to quit.)

I believe you hit the nail on the head here: "How about we disavow ourselves of the term 'gender' altogether. People will be how people will be. We cannot make people be the way we want them." I don't see how you can say this and at the same time say that gender roles are not socially created. Gender roles are expectations of how people will act based on some arbitrary characteristic they have no control over. The rainbow of human personality is not socially constructed, but the roles we project…

And the minority doesn't matter. Screw them. They should be forced to assimilate to the culture they live in, not allowed to live the way they naturally prefer.

I believe the implicit suggestion with this method of child rearing is that gender roles limit a childs potential to develop. Whether they are expected to act in a masculine or feminine way children are expected to act in a certain way, and this can be harmful if the gender role a person is supposed to fill does not match their interests or abilities. It has nothing to do with hating men, just a limiting binary gender system. I mean, you have to take into account the fact that one of the parents…

What truth? Your comments on this thread have no relevance to the article content. Plus, you sound like an idiot.

I think you mean that you are of the camp which feels that the child will display some of the expected characteristics of his or her sex based on the preconceived gender roles you hold in your mind. And I don't think that is what the parents are trying to prevent. The parents are simply allowing the child to develop without letting society treat it in a certain way because of its sex. Probably it will display characteristics of more than one gender (depending on which gender system you subscribe…

Really? There has never been a young boy that prefers dolls or a girl that prefers fire engines? Amazing.

"This practice, if carried out by men, would quickly nullify women's present unnatural supremacy, and man will be dominant, which is in accordance with the laws of God and nature." I think I can stop there. Lol, how is this getting upvoted? We must end the gynecocracy to build the opposite? This is dumb.

I don't think we need feminism to do away with the free market. Obviously pop stars are not worth more than school teachers, so why should they get paid more? You are admitting that the free market is not putting the right value on services but you still trust it so much. Why?

But store clerks aren't special needs teachers. You are missing the point.

Digging a grave is obviously more physically difficult, but which job requires more skill is the better question. I imagine I would hire anyone who took care of special needs children if I were looking for gravediggers, but I doubt a gravedigger would have the qualifications needed to take care of special needs children.

Clearly you have never had to take care of a large group of special needs children.

I don't think your link offered any evidence that children without fathers suffer. And, whether a father is required for a child to be raised properly or not has no bearing on whether a father should be made to take responsibility for his actions.

"Most people in society probably will not see my overall worthiness as a person being exclusively tied to how high up in the hierarchy I rise," rather they will judge my worthiness by how I look. From the sound of #14, "If I attempt to hug a friend in joy, it’s much less likely that my friend will wonder about my sexuality or pull away in unease," and #15, "If I seek a hug in solace from a close friend, I’ll have much less concern about how my friend will interpret the gesture or whether my wort…

"Why do women have the choice between abortion, adoption, dropping an unwanted baby off at a hospital, raising the child with a father, or raising the child without a father, but the only choice men have is to agree?" Because the baby is a parasite sucking the life out of the woman's body.
