I don't know about the metaphysical aspects as such but Dharmashastra (basically book of duties/responsibility) divides life into 4 stages for everyone. So 100 years of life 25 years or so in each stage. Brahmacharya (student) Grihastha (householder) Vanaprastha (retired) Sannyasa (renunciation) Celibacy is only for the 1st 25 years of life not for the whole life.
