I was a little leery the whole time reading this without being able to put my finger on why... then I got to "he also said my defensiveness was coming through" and went NOPE. I don't need weird judgmental comments from a guy I barely know. It feels like he's setting you up to prove yourself, that you can handle his mom, that you can reconsider surrogacy, etc "he went out and a girl was into him and he told her he was seeing someone"-- that's a) trying to make you jealous b) hinting that he's com…

putting like $50 into Bitcoin, just to take it out before the value of Bitcoin skyrocketed. It's fear of "risk". I feel like any mistakes, especially financial, are met with "well you should have played it safe" rather than "that's a good lesson learned; now you know better!" We're taught to be safe, careful, quiet, be satisfied with what we have.

It somewhat depends on your age and your goals (kids? college/career timelines? teaching overseas for a year?), but as a rough guide I would say 6 months before you start to talk about it. You would want to know each other very well and see how the other reacts in a variety of situations, and most of that only comes with time. Meeting and hanging out with each other's friends, participating in each other's hobbies to some extent -- you don't have to share everything, but you want to understand e…

No, you do not tell. You probably feel bad because you are starting to feel attached to the one guy. It's natural and normal, but you still need to be careful. It's only a month and a half, and he hasn't brought it up yet. Maybe you can back off from him just a little? Make sure you are spending quality time with yourself. And if you are tired of dating the current rotation, stop or pull back, but don't put all your hopes on one guy yet. Especially because it's so early. I'm under the impression…

I have a feeling you will feel a lot better about this situation if you take a few days away from him. Something innocent and easy, like visiting a friend out of town, or staying with your sister, I don't know. Arguing for 3 hours over a $5 box of tea is obviously very weird, so if you can take a few days and clear your head, you will see it. Also if you say to him, "babe I'm gonna go visit my friend for the weekend" -- don't say anything about needing to be away from him, or needing time alone!…

Roe v Wade only determines whether or not we have a Constitutional right to an abortion. I'm pro-choice, but the thing is, myself and many smarter people than me do not think the Constitution provides that. RBG herself is one of many liberal attorneys who have some criticism of the decision. There is current Federal legislation pending on women's right to chose: HR 3755, The Womens Health Protection Act. It's passed the House and is on the calendar for Senate. This could really happen, it could …

I would not go on to his page, since I barely know him, and leave extremely flirty comments publicly You know not to do this- because it's inappropriate. Not because you are a coward. He's not being brave/nerve/gall, he's being inappropriate.

Exactly my thought. But also, people tell themselves this to justify bad behavior. "It's just this one thing, he's so kind otherwise," etc. We don't actually have to judge the whole person as evil to break up with someone. There's this instinct that if we don't feel justified in saying "this is a bad person and that's why I left him" then we're not allowed to leave. "This isn't working for me" or "we're incompatible" is really good enough. That perspective has to be normalized. Also this guy the…

There are groups that will help you travel to a state where abortion is legal. National Network of Abortion Funds, Haven Coalition, Brigid Alliance. Search for abortion help [your state] if none of those work out. If you're in the right timeline, Honeybee Health can ship you abortion pills. And be very careful how you use the internet at home. Edit: apparently I've misunderstood OP's situation, but my advice about how to get abortion help in some states still stands

Livestreaming is a bit like YouTube- some people do it for fun or hobby, and some can make side income, and some can make a living from it. It can definitely lean toward being "internet girlfriend" but it depends on how the performer plays it. I wouldn't immediately discount the people as friends irl, but if you're talking about being friends online, it's certainly a scene that you may or may not want to get into. Are you getting invitations to join the app? I wouldn't call that an invitation to…

Dignity is a human right that women for too long have been gleefully urged to abandon in pursuit of being laid back, fun, easygoing, cool, sexy, like-the-boys. Well said!

Going out for ice cream is what you do when you're babysitting your niece, and you've had to bribe her into being quiet for one goddamn minute. I'm not suggesting you say that to him, just that it's kindof childish. Best case scenario, he's trying to show how fun and cute he is. But it's not first-date material. Exception: you've put somewhere on your profile that you fucking love ice cream. Maybe.

Wait-- these are all people you work with? Sharing and discussing lingerie photos?? The "prude" label is problematic and irrelevant, you have a right to want to keep sexual things private (what a concept!! so old-fashioned and quaint!!) But as the word is used in normal daily life, you are not being a prude. I recommend you do whatever you can to keep your work relationships secure, but definitely start to slow fade and get a new job asafp.

Every time you need reassurance, you end up with an argument? You crave support and end up feeling worse? Something that upset you made him laugh? You might as well have nobody. Or like, a pet fish. Fish are actually relaxing, unlike this guy. So he's being a jerk, but also, he's basically a stranger and you may be leaning on him too much.

I've never wanted kids, although I actually do like kids. It's probably from watching my mom be overwhelmed, have little-to-no help from my dad, and never have a single second to herself. It wasn't conscious, but looking back, I'm sure I saw that and decided that was not the life for me. Of course with a community or an involved co-parent, it's completely different. I just don't want to risk ending up like my mom. Also I feel like having kids is something a person should actively choose, not jus…

There's a book called "To be an Anchor in the Storm: A Guide for Families and Friends of Abused Women" by Susan Brewster. It's about abusive men, but I think it could be adapted to situations like this. It's all about how to support the woman in a way that doesn't try to change her mind, isn't trying to force her. Just support her. She knows, on some level, how bad it is. But if she doesn't get there herself, she won't leave, and if a friend finally convinces her to leave, she'll often go back t…

There's a theory (I forget where I read this) that a man will treat you as well as you demand/expect. If you go back to his place on the first date, you'll be categorized as an easy woman and he won't put a lot of effort into you. If you don't go back to his place, and don't let him get too handsy, he'll keep pursuing you, and will treat you well. Also, I'll tell you what my dad told me: men always want sex. (It wasn't creepy lol, he was trying to teach me about the world.) Men are always motiva…

Even liberal California has a 6-month cooling-off period. But even without that, the fact that a person has to file for divorce is kindof like asking the government permission to leave a relationship. Marriage has its benefits but it's never gonna be pleasant to get a massive bureaucracy involved in... well, anything lol

To be more precise: in the United States, there were no Federal banking laws against discriminating on the basis of sex. So while places like California might have put those protections in earlier (in 1862 actually!), for a federal bank, they could (and so often, they would) discriminate. It wasn't until 1974 that The Equal Credit Protection Act was passed, which made it illegal to deny credit on the basis of sex, marital status, also race, color, national origin, religion, etc.

I visited my brother when he was in college, he was living with 4 other guys. First thing my poor brother does is apologize for the mess and tells me not to touch anything. My brother kept his own stuff clean but he wasn't cleaning up after those idiots.

I had IBS for years, with very little pain. I didn't notice the patterns because I don't pay much attention to my periods (mistake). When I finally started having doubling-over, vomiting pain, I went to the ER. They didn't exactly take me seriously, they said it was just IBS but might be ovarian... so when I asked for an ultrasound they agreed. Turns out I had masses of ovarian cysts in there, legitimately not hurting very much for the most part, but giving me constant diarrhea somehow. Pay atte…

Exactly. Also, "nice" in the coin they put in the machine- it's the currency they pay to get something. It's not actual kindness and decency if you expect something out of it. I think "charming" people often have this problem, too. They naturally know how to make people laugh and/or like them, and they skate through life on that without realizing how empty they are.

Oh god my first IUD was pretty awful and that was with 1 valium and 1 vicoden! When I got it replaced they didn't give me anything and I cried so hard. That was after I had one consultation with a really nasty nurse and I actually called the office and said "I need another person to do the procedure" and they found me someone with compassion. But even she couldn't give me anything beforehand. God damn war on drugs.

I have dated men and women. The men have, to varying degrees, been good to me and taken care of things. But only the women have offered to make me dinner. There's nothing like it. Now that I look back on it... the men have been useful, the women have cared for me. Not a perfect distinction and not a rule, but still.
