Are we reading the same article? "The charges against the Louisville teacher include six counts of sexual abuse, four counts of distribution of obscene materials to a minor (the 13-year-old boy), two counts of attempted sodomy, one count of using a minor under the age of 16 in a sex performance, one count of unlawful transaction with a minor under the age of 16,..."

"... arrested for sexually assaulting a minor." Fixed that for ya.

How do I feel about vasectomy? Getting one was the best decision I ever made. I'm only sad I didn't get it done sooner.

Wow, I really appreciate your efforts to read the subreddit with an open mind and talk with your boyfriend about it. Kudos!

I have heard of cases (sorry I don't have a cite handy) where a divorce settlement was voided because one of the parties claimed they were duped and didn't have adequate legal representation. Sorry to be paranoid, but... with a house and kids involved, I'd want to make sure both parties have a lawyer.

Ask your friends. Surely you know some guy who has gone through a divorce in the past five years. Chat them up, ask about their attorney. Personal recommendations are golden. If you were in the Silicon Valley, I'd have just the person for you.

I worry about changing the locks. I don't know the legal issues, so I'm not trying to address those. But if you change the locks, she finds out, and it sets her off, that can only hamper the divorce. I'd bend over backwards trying not to do anything that might possibly make waves, until everything is signed and sealed. All the more reason to get that done ASAP.

I completely agree with your "best course of action", but I would phrase it in stronger terms. Get the divorce done as soon as possible. Why on earth would you wait another few weeks. If the situation with your ex- is reasonably positive now, why on earth would you wait? Seize the moment and try to wrap this up as painlessly as possible. Get all of these informal, casual understandings nailed down in the divorce settlement. Ownership of the house, repaying your parents, child custody and visitat…

I don't mind this at all. But I also think boys should be allowed to try out for (girl's) field hockey teams. If it doesn't go both ways, then this is bullshit.

Ya know, when people see something like that, it's really easy to grumble and bitch about it and do nothing at all. I really appreciate that you took the time to register a (polite) complaint. Kudos to you.

According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), rape has decreased by 60% since 1993. (http://www.rainn.org/get-information/statistics/frequency-of-sexual-assault) As a general trend, violent crime in the United States continues to drop, something that is easy to miss in a steady diet of the evening news.

I'd have voted for "a vasectomy".

If someone told you this story with the genders reversed, you'd tell the girl to dump the boyfriend who hit her. Dump him in a red hot minute and never look back.

That teacher standing behind her needs to be fired in the worst way.

In a nutshell, here's what stops me: The failure rate of marriages (divorce rate) The abysmal situation men can find themselves in when a marriage fails (alimony, child support, child visitation) For those reasons, I will never get married. Thankfully, I have been extremely blessed to find very long-term, happy relationships with women who have no need to be wedded. But if I couldn't... I'd rather be alone than roll the dice on marriage.

Isn't provision #7 effectively covered by provision #6? I mean, really, your ex- doesn't care about where you live; she cares where your son will be living.

I completely agree; that's fucked up. Additionally, I think it's horrifically wrong when the perpetrator of a rape (male or female) is able to claim any parental relationship to any resulting children.

If that happened to me, this post would use the phrase "ex-girlfriend".

You describe the guy as a "friend with benefits". I'm gonna focus on the friend part. If a friend of mine strongly wanted an abortion and couldn't pay, hell yeah I'd help. Whether it was my kid or not. So yeah, ask. If the guy is any kind of decent, he'll help. If he doesn't, you'll know he wasn't ever a friend in the first place, but just some guy who liked fucking you. Sorry you're in this position. :-( Good luck.

Wow, what a load of crap. Speaking as an American male, I have zero need to be the "provider" for some woman. I am perfectly happy to be involved with women who are well established in their own careers, have their own money and resources. I would be very nervous about a woman who needed me for money, housing, etc.

Unquestionably, these girls should be registered as sex offenders.

Disclaimer: This is not a scientific analysis, but merely anecdotal evidence from my own experience. I got a vasectomy in 2003, when I was in my mid-thirties. It wasn't particularly painful; I've had dental work that was far worse. I took over the counter pain killers for a couple of days after the procedure, and used an ice pack on occasion if I felt a little sore, but that was it. No sweat. I have been unable to detect any change in my ejaculate, in either consistency or quantity. (You thought…

I recall a comedian who put it like this. "Let's see... I have to promise not to have sex with anyone but you for the rest of my life. But that's okay, because if it doesn't work out, you get half of all my stuff. Yeah, okay, that sounds fair."
