There's a lot of potential benefits to legalizing prostitution- like protecting the men and women that are mistreated and abused while being sex workers. It'd reduce the number of men (and women) burdening the legal system- men who pose no harm to society. Regulating sex work would presumably reduce the transmission of STD's. We could require tests and regulations to insure sex workers aren't infected with diseases. Assuming men are the primary buyers of prostitutes' services- this has beneficia…

I would argue that the 'numbers don't support it' because policies, procedures and prejudice make it more difficult for men to be seen as victims and women to be seen as perpetrators. If this were true, we couldn't use any data. Because men have been oppressed to the point that we cannot trust that they will honestly answer questionnaires about whether they have been abused. That shuts down all projects, right? We don't want to throw out studies and data just because men can't be trusted to be h…

How many red herrings does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? Your attempt to generaize a use of "primarily a women's issue" is inane. It doesn't serve any purpose, you're not latching on to any fundamental logical flaw with my reasoning. Natural language (especially English) is idiomatic to a degree that there's no reason to think transposing a phrase from one context to another holds any reasonable weight in rational discourse. As for your "special pleading" charge. It…

There was a particular study referenced with a specific definition of violence used (not a colloquial- or "better defined" definition of violence. It's an operational definition for the purposes of interpreting data, and developing measurements for the study). I am not making claims about the nature of female violence or it's severity. I'm drawing from both the study's definition of violence and the rates of violence published across various studies. This is precisely so we don't conflate colloq…

You aren't addressing my claims, nor are you accurately presenting my claims. If you want to engage in discussion, you're going to have to- at the very least- accomplish these two conditions.

The key operator here is primarily. Duluth sees DV as primarily an issue that affects women. I've hashed out the exact numbers elsewhere, but it's roughly 1900 men to 3000 women (from lazy math assuming 318 million population, and the last recorded homicide rates, along with the percentages of those numbers that were homicides from DV (or intimate partners). A bit more than 3/5ths of the DV homicides are against women (lazy math, again). That, to me, justifies calling DV primarily a women's issu…

I think a gender neutral wheel is great. The only potential problem, I forsee is whether women abuse men in a different way than men abuse women. This would justify separate wheels. The point of the wheels is to help victims, so arguably whichever wheel (or set of wheels) drops the amount of DV the most is the best course of action.

I'm not your pal, guy. There's no way you read and comprehended what I wrote. Otherwise, you'd have something germane to say. Or maybe you're mentally challenged. In which case, I'm sorry, and I didn't know. Keep on keepin' on tugboat. You're my special little man.

You should read more. You'll find that you are bad at guessing what others are saying.

I'll respond when I'm satisfied you've read what I wrote, and have something germane to add.

No one with intellectual integrity coddles ideas. The best thing that can happen for men's rights is for people like me to dive in and eviscerate the bullshit (I'd do it more if I had the time). If you want a civil rights movement to be taken seriously, you need to have solid ground to stand on. It pisses me off, that men's issues isn't taken seriously. And deservedly so, it's mainly because of the pseudo intellectual, faulty reasoning, bad at social science, illiterate nonsense that permeates u…

Let's take a look at an analogy without the dirty waters of moral confusion and prejudice. Suppose, I wanted to do something to slow, or stop the public from dying from snake bites. And to do this, I decided to make a wheel. Suppose I made a wheel giving a description of what it's like for vipers to envenomate people. In these parts, vipers represent the overwhelming majority of envenomations (fictional assumption, probably actually true). The wheel gives the signs and symptoms of hemotoxins, cy…

Which numbers should we use? The actual number of cases for men and women? There are psychological tricks you can do with numbers and rates, I'm well aware of that. But presenting the proportional number of men murdered by intimates and the proportional number of women murdered by intimates- that doesn't seem deceptive. So, here's a line of thinking, more males are murdered than females (according tohttp://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf). The data from the study is presented in a numbe…

It wasn't conflating your two comments. as far as I can see. You posted two different comments, one of which "justified" the other. Again, how does this show the "erase male victims"? The stats say more women were murdered by "an intimate" than men (and that men are murdered by "intimates"). What are you taking "erase" to mean? The Duluth organization presents the portion of male murder victims that were committed by intimates. That is literally recognizing men are victims. Again, you've misread…

Why are you still replying if you're refusing to present your idea in a reasonable manner? All you're doing is running away when someone is skeptical of your ideas. I can understand you not wanting to justify your comments. But if you don't want to justify your assertions, just say so. Be honest with yourself. Don't go plunging into your psychological defense mechanisms to make yourself feel good. If you don't want to have discussions, don't post to a fucking message board. Yeah?

Look, you need to read more carefully. the (sic) specifically erase male victims, and support the idea that female abusers must be defending themselves somehow. You're referring to this: The Duluth curriculum is designed for male perpetrators. In Duluth, a separate court-deferral program called Crossroads was designed for women who use illegal violence against the men who batter them (Asmus 2004). They're specifically talking about women who kill/maim/injure the men that beat these women. You've…

This organization doesn't shape their content to male victims of domestic violence, nor do they deny male victims exist. Is that a case of "tear it down"? Or a case of "let's build one of those". For me the only question is how effective is this program at helping women avoid or escape from domestic violence, and the efficacy of the "non violence" classes they're giving to men convicted of domestic abuse. If it works, then I think men could benefit from this sort of program, if not- let's find s…

You're right, it's current. It's more helpful to go to the website than to click on the pdf of a wheel- with no date. If the wheels weren't current, we could dismiss them outright. But since they are current, we're left with questioning whether it is sexist to make a campaign specifically designed for one gender regarding the issue of domestic violence. I don't think this is a case of sexism. If anything, it's a cause of "we should build one too" instead of "tear it down".

To be fair, it's from "Power and Control: Tactics of Men Who Batter" from 1986. And was adapted from that book, or article, in 1995. It's not current. And it's not clear that it's still in any use for any official capacity. At worst, it's a case for how domestic violence was historically most commonly portrayed as something a man does to a woman. At best, it's focusing on an audience of hetero women. There is no denial that woman cannot abuse men in a domestic situation. There's nothing necessar…

me: A and B are an IW you: X, Y, and Z are an IW too. Therefore, you're misinformed. What you need for your comment to be germane is for me to have claimed that no other subreddit is an intellectual wasteland. I didn't claim that no other subreddit is an intellectual wasteland, therefore your comment is not germane. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

The problem isn't mocking Feminism. Picking holes in the conceptual tools that feminism uses is a healthy part of rational/intellectual/academic discourse. The problem, for me, is the amount of sloppy reasoning, both for this subreddit and for the feminism subreddit. Mensrights and Feminism are an intellectual wasteland setup for point scoring, mud slinging and gender based antagonism.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1854883/ Here's the study, that you should look at. The finding is surprising, but the study is less salacious than the articles show. Two particular problems I have with just stopping at the fact that "women are more violent" finding are that 1. the surveys about violence are self reported, and vary in severity- and there's no individuation of instances of each for instance are women more likely to threaten physical violence or throw something at you …

Glossing over this, it's a bunch of asides. Indeed, if you're right- it doesn't matter to me if you are- then it isn't true that in our society men and only men are set to benefit from patriarchy neither is it true that all and only men benefit. First, patriarchy isn't a scientific hypothesis. Second, later on you arbitrarily demand that it make predictions- it's a definition and definitions don't necessarily make predictions (depending on what you mean by "predictions"), even supposing you were…
