I can relate. My parents divorced when I was 6, and ended up on opposite US coasts. In either household getting attention was dangerous, especially at my dad's. I'm middle-aged now, but when either parent brings up "happy" memories (for them maybe?) and I explain that they weren't so happy from my perspective, I'm told that I never complained or acted out. Yeah, my dad was a violent alcoholic and my mother was an emotionally unstable and easy to anger. Not acting out and attracting attention was…

Because most men crave it the same way most women crave attention and tingles. It's not important to me either.

Dude, you're the Karen in this story. Is it just cloth? Yes, it is. Is it effective? Probably not. But for the same reason, it's fucking cloth. It doesn't stop you from breathing unless cloth is now magically a barrier to oxygen. If this is really the hill you want to die on, just do you, and rock on. But please don't imagine for a second that you aren't the Karen here. Just wear it under your damn nose like every other merchandiser on the entire planet. If you are really that delicate, perhaps …

Very hurt does not even begin to describe what that poor dude is going through. The humiliation. Everyone, from extended family to his entire social world is going to know he got cucked. Even as a young man this was my biggest fear (both of my grandmas cucked their husbands).

It's not bad. I read it all the time. They HATE infidelity and basic dishonesty over there. Anyone low IQ enough to post there as a cheater who lied about paternity deserves the horrific, written beating they get.

In general yes. It's hard to be strong yet vulnerable, selfish yet generous, cocky yet humble, ruthless yet compassionate, dominant yet passive. It's exhausting.

It happened to me. During single times I would hang out with couples and long for womanly love and companionship. It was palpable. The I would find someone and remember how damn miserable relationships made me. The first three months were always good though lol.

Unlike on a tv show, the reality for a lot of men is that they consider themselves lucky to be able to get anyone at all. And because female anatomy is the only important thing in the world to a lot of men, they will accept almost anything to obtain it, including raising other men's kids, supporting a drug or bad drinking habit, being cheated on, being emotionally or physically abused, etc. Men realizing that there are other things in life besides securing regular (in theory) pussy would stop al…

Overall I agree with OP. People have always had the tendency to want to be shitty, just now we lack what for lack of a better term I'll call social cohesion. People (especially women though) are taught to embrace every dumbass whim and desire they have as a God-given and moral right. OP brings up a good point about the conflict between insane individualism and the government wanting to control every aspect of life. They're mutually exclusive in the end, which is why the left coalition will event…

Sounds like she doesn't really want a man, she wants a fantasy. But in real life the fantasy isn't interested. Try telling your friend to fill the void in her own happiness instead of needing Chad to fill it for her. If she were able to land and keep an "exciting" man, she would have by now. Tell her to take a good look at those "suck it up" guys because before she knows it she'll be lucky to land one of them. Nevermind, if you tell her all that she'll just hate you lol.

Wow. So graphic, and so on-point. You made me spit out my coffee as I imagined a woman looking at a profile and painfully asking herself "Could I do it? Is enduring it once a month worth the cash and prizes?" Bravo!

American, born and raised. Not sure what TV, film, coed schools and music have to do with male emotional displays. I mean, if Ryan Gosling (or insert any handsome actor) cries in a movie I suppose it's ok, but it would be pretty cringe to see in real life? All I can say is the women in my family despise male weakness, and in my youth whenever I showed vulnerability in a relationship, the relationship changed immediately and either became quasi-abusive or developed awkward distance. I follow a si…

Gotcha. It's a bit weird. The women in my family sort of go with women can choose to take on a male or female role, while they feel men are men. I get it about the friend part though, but it's really easier for me to just keep it to myself.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/19 01:26 AM

No, not really. I just don't cry in front of women (people, actually). Once learned, it's an easy skill to master.

Well, all I can say is that's great. Your husband is lucky to have you. I might be able to get away with a little more if I was the sexiest man alive, but I'm just an average Joe. :) I get enough time alone that if I'm feeling the weight so to speak I can lick my wounds in private.

Funny, but no. They're all actually quite liberal. I'm by far the most conservative and I'm relatively moderate. They just don't like weakness in men. I mean, I've heard ex-girlfriends say that, but it always turned out to be a shit-test. Nothing like being encouraged to share your sadness and then being called a bitch and faggot for it later. I learned my lessons, and I'm in a relatively happy relationship. All the guys I grew up with are divorced at least once lol. Correction, one isn't but he…

Short answer, no. I'm the only man in the family within 3000 miles. I'm needed to be stoic so that they can all lose their shit. I have a step-father but he lost a job years ago and his man-status was permanently revoked. If any woman in my family ever saw me cry I would be tormented until death or no-contact.

I'd likely get a "day-pass" from family if someone close died. When I was young I thought differently, but learned the hard way. I fell for all the "express your feelings" stuff in my early relationships. It always turned into a weapon to be used against me until the eventual break up. After five rounds of that I finally figured it out! :)

Work, social, family. There is no environment or context that exists that I can think of where showing vulnerability would be positive.

True, and what's best for me is to hold frame. I have to interact with women, and it does me zero good to be perceived as weak.

If it has, hopefully the market will correct itself. Unrealistic expectations will lead to a lot of lonely people. Even with unrealistic expectations, eventually these ladies will realize that they can't all marry Chad.

For some reason I thought this topic was about before the sexual revolution. I might be mixing up my posts. I was alive in the 90s, and you're right about that women being able to make money then. But people seemed just as shallow to me then as they are now, just slightly more muted in its expression.

People haven't changed at all, only their circumstances. You just said so yourself. They couldn't afford to be as superficial. It was not as easy for them to make their own money. For most women, if they wanted a family, had to bite the bullet and settle. Your points about the changes in the market are spot on.

"But serious, she would have done me a favor had she not constantly reminded me one way or another of how the norm is that men treat women shitty." Agree. I think it's best for a parent to model positive relationships rather than fill their kid's head with what can go wrong or that their own narrow bad experience is the norm.

Growing up I heard all of that from my mother. MEN are scum! MEN this! MEN that! I always saw myself as a good-natured bloke, but it still had an impact on me. Saw myself as less than. Although I did have the advantage of having a drunk, misogynistic father that never said a kind thing about women. Now that I think about it I'm surprised I didn't rope in my teens.

Much more cynical is an understatement. As a youngster I lived and mostly died by that commercial romantic nonsense. I'm now happy being married to someone who doesn't go out of her way to ruin my day.

The only men I ever met with this attitude were really good looking and had no problems getting sex. And women put up with it because they get to be seen on his arm. Most men WANT repeat business because they never know when the next opportunity is coming!

I think that's part of it, but a small part. I think it's mostly about society keeping the game going. It's a comfortable lie to keep everybody in the game. Men are shallow. Women are shallow. But a girl has to save face! If/when she can't secure her dream guy and she has to settle for some regular looking schlep for stability she tells her friends and family that he is funny and has a great personality and that looks aren't important. Also, It's a useful for moms to tell their less fortunate so…

"It's a trap!" -Admiral Ackbar Encouraging men to show their emotions is the ultimate shit-test. I've lived a long time and I've never met a woman who wouldn't prefer that I die on my horse rather than fall off.

I'll try to put it simply. Our culture for a long time was comfortable living with and promoting the fiction that women aren't/can't be shallow. So if a girl didn't think a guy was hot she said she didn't like his personality. Men who heard this and didn't have functioning eyes or brain believed it and didn't focus on their appearance. For a long while this worked well enough because eventually most women wanted families and stability and had to settle for these less physically appealing men, th…

My ex-BIL owes way more than 30k and his life goes on. He just bounces between his mom's and girlfriend's places and works under the table to avoid garnishment. He can't drive, but I think that is due to his drunk driving and other arrests.

Sorry to say it, but she (very probably) is not committing any fraud. A large portion of that 95k is child support. It is not considered income for social programs. Many states have what are called CHIP programs. They provide free medicare to children and families that have no insurance and a surprisingly high income cap. I don't know the intimate details of her situation, and may not agree with it, but it is very likely that she is doing nothing illegal. As long as she spends all her money and …
