"I'ts obvious you think your suffering makes you superior. You practically said as much." I don't think anything of the sort. I'm merely saying, look, if I can manage to find purpose and meaning in spite of profound suffering, so can other people. It's that simple. Is it possible that some people have a neurobiology that blocks them from doing so? Perhaps. That's an interesting question. But as I said this isn't true for everyone. If there are those who truly can't, this doesn't make them inferi…

"Like your idea that those who aren't successful with dating are just fatalists who don't try as hard as you supposedly do." This isn't my position at all. I fully agree that incels are describing their plight accurately and truthfully. My contention isn't that they aren't facing dating hardships, but that they (a percentage of them) aren't handling that reality wisely or skillfully. We all get dealt our own unique hand in life. Few have it perfect. "Chad" may wind up with multiple sclerosis or …

Of course a lot more stuff will be visible, as social media has increased in prevalence since 2016. How does this explain the shift from men trying to help each other, to men mostly complaining?

I don't feel superior at all. I constantly burned by attachment and unexamined desire for the first decade of my adult life, and I suffered greatly because of it. I just wish I'd encountered helpful information sooner than I did. Nobody is immune to the destructive power of self-defeating ideas and emotions. On my end, it's the people who are obviously suffering, but who are resolutely closed off to ideas that might help that I find fascinating.

I was never there for the PUA component, but moreso just to open my eyes to the reality of modern relationships so as not to get burned by another one. I never had a problem getting women, but I had a problem falling too hard for them, getting into a relationship, and then developing oneitis and allowing myself to be betafied. TRP pill cured me of that fully, and that was really all the use I wanted from it.

Jesus fuck, I know. What's happened? Is it a generational thing? The level of fatalist , abject dejection I'm seeing here is off the charts. This comes from a guy who was on TRP sub back in the day, but was then completely off Reddit for 6 or 7 years, and so avoided the boiling frog phenomenon. Coming back and beholding this crazy shift has been legit shocking.

Your problem is that you cling to certain dopamine-produced feelings and then delude yourself into thinking those feelings can or should persist indefinitely. There comes a time in every man's life where he must learn to replace the childlike pursuit of "how can I feel the absolute most happiness all the time" to "how can I live with meaning and purpose." I have felt what you felt dude. I just learned that there is more to life than feelingsmaxing. The issue here is that getting there takes work…

"but I don’t think they’ve experienced that real love and deep connection" Incorrect. I had a 10 year relationship from age to 16 to 26 and absolutely felt that way (head over heals, soulmate feeling). It was extremely difficult for me when it ended, and for a while life felt really gray and bleak. However, I used that time to better myself, and set about trying to understand why I seemed to need a woman to feel fulfilled. It was a ton of work to get there, but eventually I came to understand th…

"I think the way things are shows that most men are like me in this regard" Even if this is true (I'mm not convinced that it is), what the herd majority thinks and does generally serves as a bad blueprint for building a good life. Wisdom and fulfillment is often found on roads less frequently traveled.

Travel is only one example of a thousand different things a man can purposefully fill his time with. I have dozens of things that I could easily spend a lifetime doing happily and alone. Men would benefit greatly if they could learn to fully remove women from their focus, and instead ask: what does the world need, and how might I contribute? Then, once they have their answer, get busy doing it. Ideally, do it with other people who share a similar vision and find a sense of community there. A ful…

This. The vast majority of modern women are a Faustian bargain. I've done several long term relationships, and several long, deliberate MGTOW phases. The latter were vastly more satisfying than the former, and orders of magnitude less stressful. The problem these dudes are having is in generating their own inner sense of wellbeing and purpose; something that no woman can provide. This takes effort, and it might be that the capability is either in you, or it isn't. Either way, nothing external ca…

For the small but vocal cohort of men who do hold such childish ideals, I frequently do try talking some sense into them. What I've found is that they are almost universally hostile to anything that challenges their narrative. I honestly think that this sub disproportionately draws dudes with cluster B personality disorders, and those types will never stop lashing out if they aren't getting what they want. They are legit immune to criticism.

I'm referencing a religion, not appealing to one. The observation is logically and factually sound in and of itself. No doubt you'll have difficulty intuiting the difference between referencing and appealing. As for the reference, it was provided on the off-chance someone so-burdened might do some reading that could prove useful to them. Buddhists have expounded on the problem of desire far more deeply and eloquently than I could ever hope to. If it "sounds like imposing a worldview" to you, it'…

One, I'm not a Buddhist. I merely agree with some of Buddhism's conclusions. There is a lot in Buddhism that doesn't resonate with me at all. Two, highlighting the objective difference between biological necessity and psychological neurosis isn't in any way analogous to "imposing a worldview." The truth is never imposed; it simply is. For the same reason that it doesn't matter to Sadhus, Buddhist monks, mountain hermits, etc. - because sex is nothing but a cheap animal desire and I can think of 1000 better things to dedicate my time to. Making sex the center of one's universe is simply pathetic in my view. That's tangential though. My reasoning is inconsequential. You said sex was " the most important thing in the world to men, and their entire reason for doing anything and everything." I was merely highlighting the fact that…

If you can sit there and equate starvation to celibacy with a straight face, you're a lost cause. There are only a few things that are true biological necessities. Food, water, shelter. Basically, the select few things upon which one's survival is contingent. Aside from these, every single other desire can be challenged, and with enough dedication, transcended. See: Buddhism. Desire is the root of all suffering. It's like a burning hot fire. If you're sitting super close and complaining that it'…

"For somebody who has greater needs in this domain, this is a very real, almost physical pain to live with." This honestly sounds like a mental disorder that you should seek help for, not an "instinct" that you should double down on. " Chronic loneliness is said to be as bad for a person as smoking. It's a real fucking thing." This is true for some people, but thinking one must have romantic involvement with the opposite sex to address the issue is absurd. Lol. I've been with my girlfriend for 5 years and we both constantly misread each other, despite both of us being fairly intuitive people. And I mean constantly. Perfect strangers should definitely get it right though, "or else they're accosting creeps." God help the socially awkward dude who has to navigate a dating environment filled with myopic, disgustingly unreasonable people like you.

/r/PurplePillDebate01/10/23 02:58 PM

"Yes. The unwilling or willing audience decides if attention is wanted or unwanted, as it has always been." Of course. But only the woman is privy to this information. Dudes can't read minds. The only way for a guy to find out is to try, and by the time he does, his fate is sealed. If he's socially awkward or otherwise "ick," he will automatically be deemed creepy just for making the attempt.

/r/PurplePillDebate01/10/23 02:40 PM

Define "accosting." Or is it just whatever any woman decides that it is in the moment? Is there an objective standard that we can look to to figure out what constitutes "accosting" behavior, or is it a moving target that shifts based on how attractive the dude is?

That isn't a natural relationship, it's engineered by the US military which is tasked with ensuring collectivist ideology during war time. This is wild speculation. Nope. GTFO out with your "can't." I'll admit that it's a more dicey prospect than it used to be due to the modern hookup culture clusterfuck, but that's all the more reason for men to double down on their principles. Men SHOULD expect exclusivity, because it's the only way to alter the course of the current crazy train. When you say " They have life so easy and so many options, it makes total logical sense they’re casually fucking a whole bunch of hot guys," you are absolutely correct. But this …

Indeed we shall. I personally think industrial civilization is headed for collapse in the near-term, so I envision a lot of this naturally falling by the wayside as actual tribalism makes its inevitable resurgence. Sort of a tangent, but this is one reason why I don't spend a lot of time worrying about it. Something tells me nature will sort everything out for us.

Guess away. A fallacy remains a fallacy.

For sure. Tribalism is definitely an element, and that's a shame because the issues transcend "sides" at this point. We're all on this leaky ship together and it does nobody any favors to obfuscate the situation for the sake of scoring points. But yeah, everything you've said here is on point. Nobody is "winning" in the current dysfunctional context. I agree that women are probably getting the slightly worse end of the stick (I'm sure some feminists would challenge us here) but the fact is that …

Yep. And it goes far beyond simply not acknowledging it in a lot of cases. In this thread alone, the mental gymnastics people go through to actively argue that it isn't a problem is staggering. I can't make any sense of it. The problem is painfully obvious, and people seem hellbent on rationalizing it away.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/09/23 03:11 AM
1

Agreed. That's why many women know intuitively that they need to keep their promiscuity hidden from the very guys they are being promiscuous with. They KNOW how it's likely to be interpreted, and they aren't wrong. This adds a layer of manipulation/deceit to the whole thing, which makes it all the more repugnant from where I sit.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/09/23 03:07 AM

Yeah I definitely agree. I was just saying that even if the conversation never takes place, people should be prepared to reap the potential social consequences of their unchecked promiscuity.

It won't entirely solve it, no. In my view, modernity has created so many problems, it's beyond anyone's ability to understand the complexity of the situation fully, much less come up with a definitive prescription for salvation.

Not really a matter of opinion here, as far as I can see. I'm pretty sure it's a cut and dry logical fallacy. But as you say, whatever you want to think.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/09/23 02:06 AM

You are conflating two separate things. A woman holding relaxed values about how quickly she will become sexual with a man has NO BEARING on the values she holds concerning how many partners she is willing to be sexual with concurrently. Yes, if she fucks a guy quickly, she has probably fucked other guys quickly. None of this makes it likely that she has fucked, or wants to fuck, multiple people concurrently. This is a classic non sequitur.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/09/23 01:45 AM

I think you downplay the power of social ostracization here. It does far more than bring promiscuity "a notch" down. And secular societies are just as capable of having these kinds of norms. They do not need religion to exist. In reference to your Nordic example, that is certainly one way to go, but it always comes with social problems of its own. It's always a trade-off. Those same people were also some of the most violent and war-mongering ever to exist. Not saying the two traits are necessari…

Well, I think we can both agree that the situation is somewhat complicated. And trust me, I do not think that social norms against promiscuity would be some kind of panacea and fix everything. I think that there are more problems at play here than just that, but that isn't to say that hookup culture isn't contributing in a way that is significant. It think that it is. No. I've said elsewhere that this issue should categorically NOT be handled via legislation. Social norms are exactly that - social norms. Also, part of your linked data seems to show that people are simply either opting out of the dating game entirely (many people I've talked to do this because they figure out how toxic it is), or because they simply can't attract a partner and give up. These trends are new. What do we think is causing them? It's not that people don't want a relationships. Studies have been done on that too, and the conclusion is always the same. They do.

This stat may or may not be true (people lie), but even if it is, the dynamic is having an outsized impact on the current dating market. The vast majority of young people who have dabbled in the dating market will admit as much. "That's what I don't understand. Her reaction seems over the top. Why was she so upset over this losing guy when she admitted to having several other guys on deck? Isn't that the nature of non-exclusivity?" Likely because she's used to being pumped and dumped, so she's come to expect that. So, when a good guy comes along she is hesitant to be exclusive at first (sacrificing concurrent options) for something that's not a sure bet. Just guessing here.

This need is only due to modern trends. For most of human society, there was no such need because society had strict social conventions surrounding appropriate dating behavior. "Ideas on sex" make up a wide spectrum. Just because someone doesn't have as conservative, views as you do, does not mean that they aren't still somewhat conservative in their views. I'm only stating my personal limits; this does not mean that this is where the social norm limits should be set. If you’re going on a first, second, and third date with one person over the span of a few weeks, it seems likely that you might have a few other first dates in that time that didn’t work out, and perhaps second or third dates with other people. Hell, the guy in question could have been the relative latecomer, so that you went on date 1 with him the same week you went on date 3 with another prospect (who turned out to be incompatible). Yes and the cuttoff isn't hard to locate - as soon as you fuc…

" I suppose you’re saying that people, over coffee at date #1, should mention in passing, ‘by the way, since we’ve only just met and haven’t even slept together yet, I’m going to be very frank that I’m not sexually exclusive with you at this time’ as, I guess, a disclaimer? It’s not that there’s anything inherently awful in that, but it seems like it would land extremely weirdly in a context where two people are just trying to feel out if that attraction is even there." Sorry but this is a disin…

A social norm is by definition hegemonic, else it would not be a social norm. At the end of the day, one or the other of the two position will invariably take up the dominant space in society, and whatever the dominant norm is, so the social trend will be. In the case of the AITAH example, the dude's friends were pressuring him to relax on his position (eg. trying to enforce their own perceive social norm). We live in an idea marketplace, and everyone is pushing for what they think the best dire…

Yes exactly. But it's not an inconsequential consideration.

you should assume that someone who consents to sex after a date with you is also likely to be willing to engage in sex with others. Sure, but I'm saying they SHOULD DISCLOSE if this is, in fact, their intent. And by "should," I mean this should be the standard that society adopts. In the same way the person shouldn't assume the other person is being exclusive, the polyamorous person shouldn't assume their partner is ok with them sleeping around. Given neither assumption has any solid footing in …

For my part, when I consider "success" the last thing I consider is a relationship with a woman. Literally. In point of fact, I don't even view a relationship in the modern context as any kind of success at all, but moreso a Faustian bargain. This may be where our positions differ slightly. I have no desire to be "successful" with the ladies, and haven't since maybe the age of 22 or so. I have way more important shit to do as an adult with a mission, and if I'm molding myself for any reason, it …

I didn’t notice at the time, but now that we’re talking about it, it was kind of nice not to have to assume that she was doing something that I’d prefer she hadn’t. Welcome to: most of human history. Only recently do we have to "worry" about what our partner may or may not be doing. In the past, the social stigma against doing those sorts of things was so strong, most opted against it. Personally, I'd take that over this cluster fuck any day. But I don't like casual sex so maybe I'm biased.

Of course not. Nobody is entitled to anything. The question is merely a matter of what sort of social standard makes the most sense. A certain percentage of people will always go against prevailing trends, and that is fully within their right. This is why I said the issue isn't one of objective morality. I'm merely asking: which leads to the best social outcome?

You can argue what you feel should be the morally correct way for society to conduct itself, however it rarely lives up to our ideals and everyone has a different take on it. This isn't true at all. The value system I'm referring to was successful implemented on a society-wide level for thousands of years, because people saw value in it. If we don't see value in it, of course it's going to go by the wayside. But I'm asking: what do y'all think? Is there value in that more traditional way of appr…

Why not? If you are going to make a "should' claim, you should be prepared to justify it. I could just as easily say: if a person is in the early stages of dating someone and wants to have multiple partners concurrently, they SHOULD disclose that fact to everyone involved. Why is your position "right," and mine "wrong?"

I'm not telling women anything. To the extent that I advocate for full disclosure, I think it should apply equally to every person. "The core of the ideology of our current society is freedom in the most individualistic sense." Says who? Also, what about the freedom of the person to known if their sexual partner has other sexual partners at the same time? Does this count for anything?

I get that many people these days assume this, but do you realize that this trend is VERY new, and that it is causing all kinds of social problems?

I've never had a problem getting women and I've never had to put on any kind of front to be successful in the dating market, so maybe my perspective is biased. Jobs are an unfair comparison because they literally hold the key to our ability to exist. Faking it because you're essentially coerced is not the same thing as faking it to gain a relationship in my world. Maybe it is in yours. I agree though, definitely lots of sociopaths out there. For my part, my dignity and self respect is more impor…

That's fantastic and all, but what I'm asking is what the default assumption should be, socially speaking? Which position is better for society, the dating market, and ultimately, for the family unit, on the whole? Do you think that your attitude leads towards better relationships and greater social cohesion, on the whole, compared to the alternative? Or is it just better for you personally?

I'm not approaching this from the angle of protecting myself and/or maximizing my own advantage. I'm in a secure LTR, and have had a series of LTRs since I was 17. I'm 38 now, and if my current relationship ends, I doubt I'll ever venture out into the dating market again. I've had my fill by now. If this one fails, it's likely monk-mode until death for me. I'm looking at it in the context of a larger social issue. Is this trend, as I've described it, good for society? I don't think so. And if it…

Spoken like a true sociopath. lol. Not saying you are one, but that's card-carrying ASPD sentiment right there.

Ok, you stated your position, but said nothing about why this is the standard we should choose as a society. Why do you think your position is preferable to the other? Do you think that yours is the healthier of the two, socially speaking? Or is it more a matter of "as long as I get mine, I don't gaf?"
