I'm exactly like this. One thing I thought was interesting was Nascar (probably because of all the technology involved). And I guess the problem with Nascar is it's the same the whole way through. After five minutes of it I couldn't seem to keep watching. But it's cool learning about how they make all the cars the same and rebuild the engines each race and stuff like that.

I think it's a similar phenomenon with video games like MMORPGs. "The little guy on the screen is doing well in the game" = "I'm doing well in life."

Interesting. I have heard consuming an acid like lemons will cause your body to flush out the acids and raise the ph to more alkaline.

Wim Hof Method is supposed to be good for depression. There is also a book called 10% Happier by Dan Harris. I don't think you want testosterone up without other things matching. Humans need a specific balance or else you'll have "tits like Pam Anderson" and "nipples like of frisbees" (according to Charles Poliquin). IIRC cortisol and testosterone are made from the same "stuff." Or maybe it's the same processes. Either way the idea is that if you use it all making cortisol there is none left for…

Sounds like he's denying the laws of physics. If his body doesn't have the hormones to make his dick hard, it's not going to get hard. Even if he uses viagra it won't be the same as being 15 again. This is the perfect situation for hormone therapy, but instead our society uses HRT to give boobs to "confused" 15 year old boys and calling Bruce Jenner a stunning and brave hero...

Jocko Wilinck (navy seal) tells a great story about how he needed to send a photo home to wife and kids of where he lived in his bunk wherever he was. Well wherever this was he doesn't have any photos of them up. So he puts up a bunch of family photos then takes the photo of his little area. Then takes family photos back down. He said if he is thinking too much about family stuff he can't do his job.

You are in the wrong sub. You need to ask /r/ketoscience. In short you either need carbs or fat. Your blood sugar gets low and your brain stops working properly. You either need glucose or ketones to fuel your brain. If you rely on the protein to glucose cycle (gluconeogenesis) you will feel brain fog and probably feel like crap all the time. I don't think any animal evolved to eat just protein. Peter Attia explains ketosis here: http://fourhourworkweek.com/2014/12/18/peter-attia/ Rabbit starvat…

Protein intake can be anywhere from 0.8 to 1.5x body weight. I hope you're not eating 1.5 times your body weight in protein every day... I think the equation you're looking for is 0.8 to 1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of lean body mass.

black females in America are huge A lot of black females grow up in poorer families. Poor families feed themselves with carbs because they are so much cheaper. Carbs are detrimental to pancreatic development which happens in the first trimester. When a baby is born with a badly developed pancreas that person will grow up to have insulin resistance. It's heavily documented in medical literature. It's called fetal programming. https://proteinpower.com/drmike/2008/12/09/oprahs-plight/

UK is in the middle of an exploding obesity epidemic It was exploding for the last thirty years. If anything we are nearing the end, where people are finally learning what to eat to stay thin. You're just seeing the results as everyone maxes out the weight they've been gaining for that long.

I've also reduced the amount of carbs, the only time I really have any is during breakfast. That's the worst time to have carbs. Also remember, when you decrease carbs you need to increase good fats. just having muscle mass will burn more resting calories Muscles only account for about 5% of your non-deliberate energy expenditure. Your guts or your brain make up more of than your muscles. I think even the liver uses more than all the muscles combined. When you talk about non-resting metabolic rate I guess it is a higher percentage of the total, but it's not as big a number as people seem to think. I think your muscles are only about 10-15% of your normal metabolic rate. Technically if your m…

I don't think you'd be taking BB's out of that market. BB's will be satisfied at home with these robots and then provide their BB services/resources to women in the daytime. women don't need to be fit (though that could certainly be a bonus), they need to be skinny enough (i.e. not fat). The first one can only be attained by going to a gym, but the second one is merely a product of watching your diet Some people are able to stay thin without watching their diet. I guess what I'm saying is, I think there are quite a few women who stay thin with zero effort. And that number goes astronomically higher for the younger age women. Science can explain the obesity epidemic. Saying people have become lazy is throwing science out the window and promoting the biblical explanation of gluttony (which they call "energy in" so they can sound scientific) and sloth (which they call "energy out" so they can sound scientific). Many people think they understand thermo (energy in and energy out) without realizing they are actually promoting a biblical explanation (gluttony and sloth). http://youtu.be/D5W0eAhrO-8

Yeah pretty much. Heart is probably your best source of CoQ10 for example. Liver is a good source of vitamin A. Ironically nobody wants these so they're cheap. The Weston A Price Foundation has a bunch of info on their web page but I haven't taken as much time as I'd like to go through it all. I learned recently that egg yolks are high in fat-soluble vitamins, and natto is high in K2. I haven't gone to the local Asian market to find any natto, maybe this weekend. From what I hear it tastes awful…

Yeah Paul Jaminet, Chris Masterjohn, Denise Minger, Gary Taubes, and many many more have written very nice critiques of TC Cambpell's book The China Study. If such smart folks disagree with Cambpell I'm compelled to at least be skeptical. The main thing for me is that it's observational (i.e. can never prove causality) and that his (incredibly intelligent) research partners bailed out after they realized what Campbell was planning to do. Those two alone should be huge red flags to anyone who can…

Sorry I don't know what, if anything, he said about that. I got the quote from a lecture I watched. I've never actually heard that term before. As I understand a lot of hormones are built on a cholesterol molecule. It's just me and my own personal observation (i.e. n=1) but when I started eating less of some foods (processed carbs) and more of other foods (fatty animal foods) I felt like a lot of my hormones bounced back from the dead. There are pros and cons but I felt the pros outweighed the c…

The large scale study is not called "The China Study." That's the title of the book by T. Colin Campbell (The China Study) which is based on the large observational study done in China (that he was in charge of). The data itself is available in a book titled Diet, Life-style and Mortality in China. But the actual study was called the "China Cornell Oxford Project." In any case, I tend to agree with Denise Minger on that one. But actually, the same guy I've been talking about (Dr. Eades) happens …

Not sure where to start. Yes I wondered about beer as well when I watched the presentation. I'm not sure why he didn't mention it. But he did show evidence of little kids with pretty bad problems. Even if kids drank beer I think those problems were caused by chowing down on the gritty, sandy bread, not so much by beer. Yes that's a good point, and I wondered why he never brought up beer in his lecture myself.

Yes he mentions that as a reason their teeth were so messed up. The whole grains were so difficult to grind that they mixed them with sand on their little stone mills. He says one of the skills was sifting out the sand from the bread. I tried to summarize so I left that out. There was a lot in the lecture.

I got it from a speech by Dr. Mike Eades. He explains the scientific literature of stable isotope analysis (the opposite of carbon dating) which was used on ancient Egyptians (mummies) as well as other societies from long ago. The funny thing is that ancient Egyptians ate almost the exact diet recommended by nutritionists today: mostly-vegetarian (i.e. whole grains with fruits and vegetables) and a little bit of meat and dairy. Kind of like ovo-lacto-vegetarian. Also it would be zero sugar since…

Reminds me of a quote I really like by Mark Nathan Cohen, Ph.D. The field of medicine often appears naive about the full range of human biological experience, basing conclusions about human health---even about what is 'normal'---on the comparatively narrow experience of contemporary Western society.

It's not so straightforward, but yes the guidelines had a really huge negative impact. IMHO the biggest problem was the vilification of saturated fat. That meant that people ate more carbs because if you reduce fat you have to increase either protein or carbs (and carbs are way cheaper than protein). And the second biggest problem was that many processed carbs and sugar were fat-free foods, which meant people felt free to eat more of them more often. E.g. for sugar, even though it was in the top…

Interesting. I bet you might like a book called The Warrior Diet by Ori Hofmekler. He talks about something similar to what you're doing. He came up with all his advice before the science was around to back it up, but from what I gather he got a lot of things right. I have been eating once per day. When I workout in the afternoons, I workout in a completely fasted state. Then I go home and eat my calories before bedtime. It has its pros and cons I guess.

No, starvation mode doesn't really happen for 72 hours as I understand it. But everytime you eat your pancreas squirts a little insulin (a lot more when it's carbs, and even more when it's sugar or processed starch/grains/etc.). And yes I agree 100% the American food supply is a huge part of the problem. Chronically raised insulin over time causes problems. And since most Americans are eating every few hours while they're awake, their pancreas continues to squirt out insulin basically all day lo…

The trick is to maintain insulin and leptin sensitivity. Smaller portions does can do just the opposite after a couple of decades. It might work for a while though I'll give you that. Edit: changed to "can do". Also I think hormone disregulation is pretty obviously why some people can lose weight doing CICO while others can't get CICO to work no matter how hard they try.

No it's a population shift those people are a small percentage of the population. It's caused by the dietary guidelines and the food supply. The book Death by Food Pyramid pretty much explains everything or you can watch pretty much any Gary Taubes lecture on YouTube. Basically most of the country is fatter except the ones clever/able enough or lucky enough to avoid the visible symptoms of metabolic issues. Here is another decent explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exi7O1li_wA EDIT: Evi…

More feminism! It would appear they are on step 6.3. The Vision of the Anointed The Anointed identify a problem in society. The Anointed propose a Grand Plan (man, does that Grand Plan look good on paper!). The Anointed don’t bother with little hindrances like proof or evidence, therefore they dismiss all evidence that the Grand Plan will not work (Because there’s no time to lose, we MUST act now!). Because The Anointed are so in love with their own theories and ideas, they will, if possible, im…

It's a place where the laws of nature/physics seemingly don't work the same. It's like being in an alternate parallel universe with different rules. In short, anything you think you learned in there would not work in the outside world. I used to be just like that. Get your Vitamin D levels checked. You can go to a doc or a lab testing place like anylabtestnow.com. You could also get your cortisol checked. I take some cod liver oil / butter blend every day because I work in a building with no windows. I think my mood has gotten a lot better. I would look into Vitamin D, Vitamin A and magnesium.

If you're 18 and not prediabetic you are probably a good candidate for TKD, CKD or the carb backloading (see below). Don't skip the adaptation, you'd need to do a normal keto diet for a few months to get fully adapted. There is info about TKD and CKD in the ketogains FAQ. /r/ketogains /r/ketogains/wiki/index Here is a video of /u/darthluiggi who I think is a mod over at ketogains. White people do this too. I have worked in IT/support type roles where a lot of people attempt to act very intelligently, but when it comes down to providing evidence they just repeat a few small things over and over forever until I give up. And a lot of times they either resort to raising their voice or lowering it for the effect of being more annoying. In the end it's easier to let them win and collect a paycheck cleaning up their messes over the next six months while they strut around taking …
