It's ok to be a man who's never learned that it's ok to be a man.

First off, you're looking at this from the wrong direction. This is not a case that Hobby Lobby brought, of their own volition, because they wanted to start imposing a particular policy. It was the US government telling them that they had to do something they didn't want to do, and they believed that this was an infringement of their religious freedom, which was prohibited by the RFRA. The Supreme Court agreed. In your hypothetical, then I guess it depends what you mean by "enacting Sharia law."…

Think of it this way. The MRAs got roasted last night. My ass, they did. Comparing that sketch to a roast is beyond ridiculous. A roast is about throwing exaggerated, hyperbolic shit that nobody actually believes at someone that you respect and admire. This was throwing out things that a lot of people actually believe about MRAs, from people that have no respect for MRAs. And again -- a roast is funny.

I came here specifically to see if anyone had pulled that quote out. Goddamn, man. Face. Fucking. Palm.

The best part of this whole thing is that certain feminist folk over on Twitter are now tearing into the author because they see this article as giving the MRM even a tiny shred of credibility, instead of rejecting it outright as a hate group, etc. Lesson learned for Ms. Matchar, I hope -- only total and complete dismissal and vilification of Men's Rights is acceptable to feminism. Anything less is apparently misogyny.

Shit pay, shit benefits The pay is only terrible if you forget to present your Privilege Card, though. You show them that, and you immediately get a 30% raise! /s

Why was I not particularly surprised to read this: You may see things that are really messed up, and it'll be a real struggle to know what to do. It could be what a guy is doing to another guy, what a guy is doing to a girl, or a girl is doing to a girl. It could be at school, in the locker room, at a party, or in someone's house. ... Do you think it even occurred to her that there was a possibility missing? Or did she intentionally exclude it? Honestly I'm not sure which is worse.

Equal Protection clause of the 14th amendment FYI, this event appears to have occurred in Canada. I'm not sure how far the US Constitution will get you there. ;)

Reading your comment I suddenly had an image of Butters from the South Park episode "Cartman Sucks" pop into my head. I think his rant there applies equally well here: Butters: I am sick and tired of everyone telling me I'm confused! I wasn't confused until other people started telling me I was! You know what I think? I think maybe you're the ones who are confused! I'm not gonna be confused anymore just 'cause you say I should be.

sensitivity = pleasure for the same reason having a condom on leads to less pleasure because its less sensitive. We're lucky that the penis has other areas. When I have a condom on, those nerves are still active and firing and feeling something different than what I feel without a condom. The difference is not, in my opinion, comparable. Yes, compared with uncircumcised men. If a women is giving a blowjob to an uncircumcised man concentrating on the tip will be much more pleasurable than it woul…

As I have explained to various other people, we know how our biology works. Less nerves = less sensitivity Let's go back to what you originally said, shall we? circumcised men get little to no pleasure from the head of their penis the way a non-circumcised man will You've made an unsupported jump here, from sensitivity to pleasure. We can certainly agree that less nerves = less sensitivity -- but that does not immediately and inherently mean that less sensitivity = less sexual pleasure (particul…

Im circumcised, so I do have some experience OK, fine, so how exactly do you know what it feels like for a guy who isn't cut? Aside from which, you still don't have my penis. It's all well and good for you to say that you have "no feeling" in the head, but I assure you there's still plenty coming through for me. I don't know what it's like to get a blowjob on an uncircumsized penis. I admit that. It might be indescribably better, sure. But I'm not going to make that claim because I simply cannot…

Not really, it's more like you've had Coke and he's had Diet Pepsi. There may be an objective "benefit" to the Coke (i.e. sugar -- or in our case, extra nerve endings) but you still can't say for certain that your drink is better than his.

circumcised men get little to no pleasure from the head of their penis the way a non-circumcised man will Um, circumcised guy here. Where the hell do you get off telling me what sort of pleasure I do or do not get from my penis? Almost makes me glad I was cut, really, the way you say it here. If I were so much more sensitive, like you claim, my average sexual encounter would probably last about 3 seconds.

It's all about finding a personal code to keep. No, it's really not a "personal" thing at all. It's about a legal system that can and will destroy your life if you come down on the wrong side of a very poorly defined line.

I meant guessed as in, it was a stupid easy password and they just tried a few obvious possibilities and got lucky. Unlikely, perhaps, but I witnessed exactly this thing happen when I was in school -- although the teacher was right there and playing along (and she changed it before anything was compromised).

If the iPhone was already set up to send photos to iCloud, it's possible the students could have just set up the iPad to sync with those photos. However this would require knowing or guessing the teacher's password. I think it's equally (if not more) likely that the teacher set up PhotoStream on both, and just forgot about it.

I can see PhotoStream doing this, in which case there are two possibilities: She set up photo syncing herself, and forgot about it. The kids literally just pressed the "Photos" button and saw her boobs. She didn't set up photo syncing herself. The kids pressed the "Photos" button and were prompted to set up PhotoStream, or went into the Settings and turned it on. They somehow guessed or brute-forced her AppleID password, at which point synced photos from her phone were downloaded and they saw he…

I honestly don't know if there's any misogyny in play here -- I've no personal knowledge of the individuals involved and it's entirely possible that they really are just sticking to their (definitely strange) beliefs. I have to give them credit, though, for forfeiting the game instead of trying to bump her off the team so they could play the game. They appear to acknowledge that their beliefs should not be imposed on other people, and I think that's something in this day and age.

See, here's the thing, I missed all those other articles in that search (thanks, btw, the n, i, c, a, s, t, r, and o keys are broken on my keyboard) where his accuser is called out for lying and dragging this upright soul's name through the mud. I mean, rape culture, right? There should be dozens of those.

Did you even read the article? After the second case of sexual assault in two months it's just terrible that a person did that We have students who have been in situations where they are sexually assaulting others Not "alleged," not "may have." Did. There are plenty of people who are assuming he's guilty and parading that presumptive guilt around. But because this blog post points out that we aren't seeing an overwhelming "blame the victim" mentality that rape culture insists we should be seeing…

We assume Mr. Nicastro is innocent because that's the entire foundation of our justice system. You remember that, right? "Innocent until proven guilty"? Nowhere does it say his accuser is lying. It says that no trial has occurred and thus we do not know what happened. Nobody is blaming the accuser -- they're blaming the media and the culture that reinforces presumption of Nicastro's (and indeed, the entire team's) guilt before we know what happened.

It doesn't matter if he says he consented -- if he was "incapacitated" that consent is invalid by the text of the law. I'll grant you that the young women claim to have been blackout drunk and thus presumably meet any reasonable definition of incapacitated. But I don't feel comfortable saying that he was NOT incapacitated. Which, of course, brings us back to the fact that it's a shitty law.
/r/MensRights20/02/12 04:43 PM

How can you know that he was "obviously NOT too drunk to consent" but she obviously was? To claim that he raped her but she did not rape him (given this law) is pretty presumptuous of you.
/r/MensRights20/02/12 04:28 PM

sexual intercourse with a person who is incapacitated by drugs or alcohol and thereby incapable of consent is rape in the first degree under Oregon law, Then, he probably did, under the legal definition, rape her in the first degree. Yup. But then she raped him too.

...OK? I'm not sure what your point is -- of course self defense is a generally accepted exception for violence. What's not OK is the presumption that all (excuse me, "many") woman-on-man DV falls under that category, and most man-on-woman DV does not. There is plenty of data indicating this is not the case -- but of course that is conveniently ignored by certain feminists who are pushing their particular agenda.

It's a fundamental assumption of the Duluth Model which is used as a basis for domestic abuse programs across the country. They make this claim quite explicitly in their FAQ: Many women who do use violence against their male partners are being battered. Their violence is used primarily to respond to and resist the violence used against them.
/r/MensRights29/12/11 05:34 PM

Yeah, that last sentence really chaps my hide. It's absolutely disgusting.

From their FAQ: Battering in same-sex intimate relationships has many of the same characteristics of battering in heterosexual relationships, but happens within the context of the larger societal oppression of same-sex couples. Resources that describe same-sex domestic violence have been developed by specialists in that field such as The Northwest Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse, www.nwnetwork.org.

I agree with your interpretation -- but to be fair, it does explicitly say "many women" and not "all women." It does allow for the possibility (however remote they make it sound) that a woman could be a batterer.
/r/MensRights14/12/11 11:06 PM

You're right -- it doesn't say never. But it does say this: When women use violence in an intimate relationship, the circumstances of that violence tends to differ from when men use violence. Men's use of violence against women is learned and reinforced through many social, cultural and institutional experiences. Women’s use of violence does not have the same kind of societal support. Many women who do use violence against their male partners are being battered. Their violence is used primarily …

There is no unalienable right to sex without parenthood. ...unless you are a woman. Which I think is the point here.

This was my favorite part. Passing sentence, Judge Andrew McDowall said [...] "You have now reached that vital stage of acknowledging that you have a problem and also showing a willingness to do something about it. [...] It is quite apparent that you are not a menace to children," and said he hoped she would be allowed to continue to teach despite the sexual assault conviction. So much for "think of the children," huh?
