Spoiler alert, if you want anyone to take you seriously you have to be able to articulate a positive vision of feminism and how to address current and historical wrongs against women, as well as whatever men's issues you care about. If you make the argument about any feminism vs no feminism, you are wrong and you will lose.

I think the difference between "You should smile!" and "You're not smiling, what's wrong?" is a semantic one, not a meaningful one. The counter-arguments here would be (a) being told that when you're a child is categorically different from being told it as an adult, and (b) that of course some guys are sometimes told to smile, but that it is much more frequent and systemic when directed by men at attractive women. Ask a few attractive women you know (especially in a city where they regularly encounter strangers) how often someone tells them to smile, then compare that against the answers of a few guys.

Asking/telling women to smile is a well-recognized behavior that clearly implies that the woman is there for the visual satisfaction of the man. I regularly think "feminism" crosses the boundaries and villainizes men, but I don't think this is one of those instances.
