Agreed. There is no perfect, there are just endless shades of what is acceptable and what isn't swirling in both partners' heads.

Framing marriage counseling or couples counseling as manipulation or ceding authority misunderstands what good counselors do. Most issues in marriages are communication issues. Counseling can be an enormous help here, but it's absolutely vital the counselor is neutral. My partner and I jointly decided to go to counseling then interviewed 3 or 4 before we decided on one.
