I can't speak for all girls but I normally only put up barriers when I feel that someone is desperate because it is unattractive and makes me uncomfortable. If someone is desperate that normally goes hand in hand with being needy and therefore a hassle. Also the majority of girls don't actually like to reject people, its very awkward and makes you feel bad. Not only is it disrespectful and rude - you're not taking the fact that she is busy and working seriously - it puts her in an awkward situation where she has to be nice to you regardless of how uncomfortable you are making her feel.
