Gotcha. I knew things differed by state but I didn't know it was that different. Here in Virginia, you get screwed coming and going. Child Support is not deductible in any manner and never counts toward the custodial parents income. Child support is absolutely not tax deductible. It still counts as income for the payer which in many instances will preclude them from receiving any sort of means tested aid. For example, though I pay approximately 1/3 of my income in CS, I am not eligible for SNAP because it is counted as my income which puts me $26 above the income threshold. My wife said to sleep in the living room. I moved the bed in the living room and went to sleep. My ex-wife tried that once. We were both young, stupid, and had been drinking. This idea really needs to stop. After serving for 15 years I can say that I know of very few women who became "un-pregnant" after they were discharged. This has permeated the military discourse for so long that it has become accepted as fact. Now, if you have any legitimate source other than "I heard", I am all ears. Enlistment is voluntary, so you already don't have the best track record when it comes to decision making. That's not entirely fair. For a lot of people it was/is the best decision they could make. The military offers a lot (though it takes just as much) and for a lot of young people that may be the only opportunity they have in their lives at that time. After briefly perusing the Armed Forces Act of 2006, it APPEARS very similar to the UCMJ. A couple small differences (mostly in some of the technical differences and wording of Common Law vs. American law). I am 36. I was in the military for 15 years. I had a pretty solid career in food service (Executive Chef, Director of Dining Services, GM, etc. Not an hourly line cook type.) Politicians choose war. Not the service member. And, yes, a lot of people ask some really stupid and insensitive questions about it. To use an often used phrase, I'd say they use trigger words a lot. The difference is, if I were to go to the administration and ask that my political science or sociology professors not talk about it, I'd just be told it's part of the curriculum and to suck it up.
