Kind of them to show their monologuing penchant first thing, just cuts through to the reason he's annoying.

Omg thats exactly what it is - internalized gaslighting. It's what happens when the gaslighting is so pervasive, you just start telling yourself how wrong you are. Omg I just had a breakthrough, thankyouthankyouthankyou

Are you asking me to provide evidence that I overcame shit? My dysfunctional behaviors were a result of my traumatic upbringing, my depression, my anxiety, my ADHD. I am 30 years old, and until recently, I never knew I had intrinsic worth beyond what people thought of me. I never knew I didn't need to earn the right to have self-respect. I literally had to figure out how to form an opinion, because I was so brainwashed into parroting bullshit. I didn't know who I was, because my coping mechanism…

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you know are truly endeavoring to be the best version of yourself, you will be able to ascertain when people are giving you genuine feedback re: your areas of opportunity, and when people are just showing you their own insecurities. It's the most perfect clarity I've ever felt, but it's taken 10 years to get here. 10 years of blood, sweat, tears, therapy, medications, and hard work. But it is worth it.

I lost a lot of friends along the way, ngl. Sounds like a lot of people have used you as a punching bag as a way to vent their own bullshit. Find your path, and you will find your people. I don't mean that to sound trite - I mean that literally. When you pursue the best version of yourself, people feel the authenticity, and it is powerful.

There's a point I got to, where I realized who I was and what I wanted were incompatible. And I realized, the person I was showing to the world wasn't really me, it was a distortion of self created from my defense mechanisms and biased perception. It was earthshattering and miserable. And I had to actively let go of all the dysfunctional behaviors I had developed in order to get to the heart of who I really was. It was journey of humility and honesty that led to me accepting responsibility for t…

"no one" is a straw man. I had to work my ass of overcome my childhood trauma, my alcoholic family dynamic, and my various mental illnesses. This is where therapy comes in. If you are improving yourself solely for the end result you think you deserve, you are destined for disappointment. You improve yourself for you - everything else is a happy consequential benefit. Also, if you keep telling yourself how shitty you are, you will act like you are shitty, and people will treat you accordingly. Th…

The whole "involuntary celibate" is the ultimate self-victimization. Instead of, ya know, working on themselves, pursuing hobbies, mastering introspection, they decide that they are celibate because of some kabal of conspiring vagina-gatekeepers. Take control, improve yourself, do the work. Become someone who another human being would like to be around. Invest in your own self-improvement, and you will meet worthwhile people along the way. And maybe, just maybe, you'll meet someone who you can f…

Terrible people exist regardless of gender/ sexual orientation. I think I danger is taking your experiences and applying them to an entire group of people - that's why biases are so dangerous, they create a slippery-slope kind of mindset that begins to feed itself. It's the exact same cycle that breeds racism, homophobia, all of the evil in the world - when we start seeing the actions of individuals as representative of an entire population, and assume "they" (whoever they is) act as some kind o…

If I can figure out the right tampon size, I think it's reasonable for a guy to own their condom requirements entirely, regardless of what they've supposedly been told.

I swear, my back pain was about cured once I threw off the weight of internalized misogyny. Carrying all that unnecessary baggage really takes a toll. Now, the only women I see as "other" are those who still compete for patriarchal approval.

He's literally writing an essay to say a few simple words: I'm totally interested in YOU thinking this is serious while I make up mind one way or another. Besides, I wouldn't want a man who went from "only wanting something casual" to "I'm seriously looking for something special" in .000001 seconds flat based ONLY on a picture.

Sounds like you both bring out the worst in each other. The relationship isn't working, time to leave and find one that's fulfilling, that inspires you to better yourself because the other person is equally inspired.

I completely see your perspective. I come from a narcissistic family myself, I didn't even think of that. I was more seeing it as her telling him to shit or get off the pot (crass analogy). I hope if she did this seriously, she was doing what she needed to in order to level up and realize her worth. Not ideal, but I'm see learning as a process - you can't skip lessons to get to the final epiphany, at least I can't. Maybe this was her first big lesson, and she'll only grow from here. I hope so.

I can't decide if this is super cringey or if I'm proud of her for calling his bluff. I love that she ambushed him, but the effort she went to could have been spent on herself/ finding happiness without such a turd

Ah yes, LVMs resent all attempts for a woman to try to determine male worth, but encourage manipulating women by manufacturing arbitrary situations that eliminate her dignity AND have zero room for nuance. This is in the same vein as that "take a girl swimming on a first date to see her makeup melt"

You promised to try it. He cannot coerce you into something that makes you uncomfortable by saying "but you promised!" That's like a 3 year old saying his mommy promised to by him a toy at the store, and demanding one even after he pitches a tantrum. There is no promise so strong is overrides your agency.

FUCKING GO YOU. I love hearing stories about LVMs who flounder in corporate settings - at least where I work, they inevitably hit a ceiling where their manipulations destroy them. They might succeed for a time, but they always get caught. And I LOVE it. I relish it. It's the ultimate schadenfreude, because you can see their entire worldview crumble.

This isn't a critique, it's a matter of priorities. What's more important - conserving resources, or finding someone you want to spend your life with? OP has to consider the payoff to be worth the reward. Maybe I attributed incorrect motivations, but this seemed like someone asking if it's "worth the trouble", and that all comes down to what the desired outcome is. Serial monogamy? Getting laid? A fulfilling, committed relationship? A committed poly situation? Whatever the OP wants, they either …

This sounds so fatalistic. If you're only looking at dating as a means to and end, then sure, it's depressing. But if you look at women as individuals, not objects, the outlook becomes a lot more positive. Cause then you aren't trying to "win", you just like another person enough to want to build a future with them.
