I disagree. If you do this well people will always end up telling you a lot about themselves without you doing much work. For example, she starts talking about x, you say something like, "that's really interesting, what about y?" and she goes on and on. I often find people tell me way more about their life than I really care to know.

I don't think this was that bad at all. I thought parts of it were good. And most importantly you just did it. You took action even though you were nervous. i think that's the most important lesson of all. Good job!

If you're clearly stating your intent I don't think you're responsible for someone else's feelings. But that's just my moral position. One thing I like about this community in general is that often you must form and solidify your own morals. Maybe this sort of FWB thing is actually not something you are ok with if when the girl gets emotionally attached it is hard for you to hurt their feelings. This sort of thing while come up, in my experience, frequently enough due to the nature of these sort…

We're not talking about them being equal in all other senses and respects. We're talking about a person's feelings for both individuals being equal.

I started getting better results when I stopped caring if she thought I was a creep for opening my mouth and speaking to her. If that's the case, fuck her anyway. Do you really want to hang around a girl who thinks it's creepy for people to speak to her? Either she has extremely low self esteem or is way too into herself. I'm just going to do me. If I find a girl cute anywhere there's a good chance I'll speak to her. I don't know if I like her until she responds. If she's cool I'll continue to t…

I really agree. When you put yourself out there and try you are doing a lot more to learn than many of those who read this sub-reddit. I thought the whole "Strips 4 Tuition" bit was actually quite funny.

I think you're totally missing the point where he is saying that there are two girls, girl a and girl b. They are both extremely awesome, the only difference being that girl b is also someone he has great sex with. All other things being equal, it makes sense to hang out with girl b. Why would anyone apologize for that?

The amount of validation people need from others around here is disturbing. Do you not have any ideals or morals of your own? Do what you think is right. This has nothing to do with seduction.

You can make sure you don't get friendzoned by saying something like, "you're lucky you have a boyfriend or we'd get in to a lot of trouble together."

I think about it like this: a) The reason I'm this anxious is in my head b) If my head is where the problem lies, sitting and thinking about it is not going to make it better. How can I solve the problem with the problem? c) I'm going to have to start taking action in spite of what my head tells me if things are going to change. d) Go through with it even though I REALLY don't want to. This works for me. Won't work for everyone. It's just like the easiest way to get over AA is to approach a ton.

I have been in a similar position before. I realized a lot of it had to do with the fact that I almost never asked people to hang out. One thing I started working on was making an attempt to not eat alone much. I started inviting people out to eat a lot. Sociologically this is a great way to make friends. But yeah, with girls, friends, whatever, I found it all to be the same for me. I wasn't putting myself out there as much as I could. I kind of expected to just be funny and smart and let other …

I find this typical. She probably has interests she doesn't think are exciting like watching TV, playing video games, fucking around on the internet, listening to music. Not everyone is going to have interesting hobbies. If everyone did, it wouldn't be as interested when someone is involved in something cool. I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone has some baseline hobbies (tv, music, internet, maybe reading, etc) and it's always safe to talk about them. Or just look for someone you find mor…

I have a rather large group of friends that get together regularly. The fact that the only other guy with any game is a natural has actually helped me, not hurt me. If you're confident, funny, smart and refuse to put girls on a pedestal it makes you stand out.

This is just something guys do. If you ever work in a shop or warehouse or in construction guys do this to each other constantly. You have to learn to grow some thicker skin. If you can be funny and sharp witted, retaliate. If you can't, just ignore it. It will only get worse if you can't defend yourself properly and try to. It just makes you look stupid. I see this all the time at work.

She gave you her number. You didn't even have to do anything. I would just text her and ask her if she wants to hang out sometime for a bit, something short and non-commital like coffee, lunch, or meet up for a drink. Text her something short and funny but not abrasive. I think it would be rather hard to mess this up.

I think Facebook can be used a tool to provide social proof in a lot of scenarios. I think some goods rules are: -don't post any statuses -allow yourself to be tagged in far more photos than you post -keep your 'likes' to a minimum basically do things that show that you are social, not someone who spends an exorbitant amount of time checking facebook.

This. I have a pretty specific type of girl I am interested in (of course I'll branch out if it's not too much work and she's hot) and not every girl is going to get me (my sense of humor, my interests, etc). Not every girl that is my type is going to "get me." I've found it much more productive to focus on girls who have a sense of humor and who can appreciate mine. Certain things about me may be too brainy for some girls and I found myself wanting to dumb my shit down to better facilitate the …

That whole "...and make pancakes" bit was really nice.. It's the kind of thing people say randomly a lot when trying to be funny, but you used it in a way that was funny and also prepared your way to answer her naturally forthcoming objections. I liked this a lot.

I don't quite understand this. Do what you want to do. If you like flirting, etc. do that. If you feel like you want "something better," and are not sure what that means, you have to try to figure out what that better thing is. It doesn't sound like you're getting what you want, or I doubt you'd be posting this. To me, all of self-improvement is about identifying what I want and taking direct actions to get it. Don't put unnecessary pressure on your self to try to meet somebody else's standards …

So many of us want to 'think our way in to good actions.' If the problem I'm having is that I can't convince myself in my head that I will be ok if I walk up to a girl and make an ass out of myself, how am I going to solve my problem by thinking about it? I'm trying to fix the problem with what is causing the problem. It's my irrational thoughts that are causing the problem in the first place. It's 10x easier to 'act my way in to good thinking.' You go out there and fail. Fail miserably. It's an…

If I neg'ed and got caught I would just say, "Is your negging me now an indicator of interest?" No need to get all weird about it and leave. But I've also found this to be effective: If you're approaching a woman and you suddenly seem to run out of things to say spitting out something like, "Man, I've been reading these books on approaching women and I just totally forgot what I'm supposed to say or do next.... Man...." If you're quick on your feet you can navigate through a lot of the bullshit …

"that's fine, I have other things I can do instead, talk to you later." comes off quite passive aggressive, imo. I prefer something like "Oh ok. That's too bad." Much more chill. The other way comes across as "my feelings are actually hurt but i'm going to feign coolness."
