I know i'm late to this thread, but as a sociology PhD student, and having taken graduate classes in the sociology of the family, the themes that are heard consistently are that children end up better when they have both fathers and mothers in their lives. They do statistically better in school, in their careers, in relationships, with their own families, and so on. And if anyone is interested, I can send them the syllabus with all of the readings, so you can see the data for yourself.

From what I recall, the main conclusions that contributed to the pay gap was that: men drove more hours, they drove at more lucrative times (late at night, etc), whereas women drove on more so on weekends and afternoons. And men drove in riskier neighborhoods, were more willing to go to unfamiliar places.

Insurance companies have been one industry that doesn't fuck around with gender identity politics -- so essentially they adjust the insurance as the data dictate. Therefore, for men, higher liability equals to a larger premium. But bringing the conversation around to race. Rates are actually higher for African Americans. And it's only recently I've seen efforts for this to be changed. But it is true that there has been differences between the races for premium rates.
