It's okay if your thought runs through to its conclusion, as long as you have at least brief stints of awareness. Your attention span may start small, which is to be expected. After a couple of days of practice, you will feel it expanding. Eventually, you can go 20 minutes or longer, fully aware of the thoughts and sensations you feel. I didn't intend that post as an endorsement. I haven't gained much from psychedelics, aside from the temporary feeling of witnessing life from a dramatically altered consciousness. During my trip, I had the tangible feeling that my entire life was a waste, which is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. For meditation, you don't necessarily need to quiet the mind consciously. I've had that realization in the past (on psychedelic drugs, no less). The only thing I can say that really helps is daily meditation. By going after the problem at the source (your mind, rather than externalities), you can literally modify your brain function to stop ruminating on negativity and to start focusing on other things. It's not a quick or easy fix, but it is scientifically proven to work. Perhaps you too can benefit from it.
