They should be called "Lobster boys," because Peterson is "Lobster daddy."

I think it applies to all males, tbh.

This was not what I was talking about. Briefly, I will say that psychiatry is a medical specialization and works off different fundamental assumptions and philosophies than psychologists (if anything, the two fields often butt heads). The thrust of my comment was that psychology tends to draw in both abusers and abusees; abusers like having authority and control and to my recollection people high in psychopathic traits (which is what your post is about). I was referring more to the latter group.…

I'm not shocked by this at all. Tragically. Keep in mind that psychology as a field is also full of ideology, especially applied fields. So yes, they are going to think these scortes just need to be fixed, and they are the ones to do it.

I agree that some of his stuff is on track, and I can't speak for this sub, but my main beef with him is that he is intellectually dishonest as a way of pushing his own Christian propaganda as truth. It drives me bonkers, esp since I'm more or less in the same field (grad student) so I KNOW when he is misrepresenting something. He tosses psychodynamic theory (non-scientific, non-empirical) in together with empirical scientific studies as though they are the same thing constantly and I can't stan…

OMG YES. And it's even funnier when you hear how Zizek prepped for the debate in one of his interviews and he just straight up talks about the way Peterson overwhelms the opponent with references and how he decided to sidestep that by addressing the audience instead, lol. Also Peterson isn't even all that accurate in his characterization of the research he cites. As far as academia and intellectual honesty goes, he exercises bad form.

Yes, they do. The state of the world is truly rage-inducing.

This doesn't work too well if involuntary. As I recall the data would suggest rapists will find a way, like using objects.

Ah I see. I understood the "or" as implying they were interchangeable, which I don't think they are. My bad. I'm not sure if I agree tho. I think libertarianism is a strong element in American culture in general but the issue with libfem seems more complex than that (though yes, neither of us are writing up a thesis here...lol)

Well that is incredibly generalizing Yes, that was the point. Hence "generally." I'm not writing a dissertation here. That's your experience and that's fine, but my general experience with progressives has generally been exasperating at best. I've yet to meet a progressive that isn't a libfem as well. Also, I'm not American. Your country is incredibly right-leaning in general, and your Democrats are almost like our conservatives. Would you like me to pop in a few more "generals" in there, or was…

Liberalism and libertarianism are not the same thing. They have similarities (if we are using the North Americam sense of the terms) but they are not identical philosophies.

I'm left leaning but I generally can't stand progressives. Most of them seem to suffer from some form of communal narcissism and their motto is "Look good, don't do good." It's maddening.

Ugh, yes. "Be kind" as a tactic to silence all criticism pisses me off so much. Like, excuse me, asking someone to do the thing they said they would so is not mean. It has nothing to do with kindness. Is like some kind of smokescreen people deploy as a way of getting out of responsibility. Uuugh.

Lol it's hilarious how you're getting so many downvotes. Is changing one's mind so controversial? The only thing we should be hating on is the misogynistic narrative that a woman changing her mind is a sign of not knowing it, rather than accepting it the way society accepts men who change their damn minds all the time.

She didn't say that everyone changes their mind, just that it happens a lot. It's okay to change your mind. The cultural narrative you speak of (women don't know their own minds) stems from misogyny. Misogyny is the problem, not the fact that people do and are allowed to change their minds, and women are people. I'm not going to not change my mind because of some concern over triggering people's misogyny. Fuck that, I'll change my mind however many times I please. I change it because I know my o…

Didn't she also throw her support behind Roman Polanski? I pretty much lost all respect for her at that point, tbh. So waaay long ago. =/

Like I said, I don’t know a lot about physics, Have you considered stopping there and educating yourself on the topic before formulating an opinion? Seriously, I just tell people "I don't know, it's not my area," when I know I'm ignorant about something. People are more accepting of humility than you would think.

Yes, usually arguments about scientific arrogance boils down to, "you told me I'm factually wrong and why but that makes you an arrogant meanie because my uneducated opinion is equal to your informed one! You are so arrogant!" Now, the West does have positivist/post-positivist arrogance problem, but the nuances tend to be total lost to the majority of critics who are not actually educated in the relevant fields, for a whole slew of reasons I won't bother getting into. Don't let me get into quant…

You're missing my point. I never mentioned college at all. He commented that he loved eating it that way, not that it is the only way he knows how to eat it. If he hung out with Asian friends he probably learned how to do it. It seems a bizarre leap to say he can't cook at all or make other assumptions, and it's particularity odd you'd point out he's a doctor. The mention of cakes etc was because it sounded like you found the snacking distasteful, rather than the method. It seems you meant the m…

"oh yeah, i love dumping the spice packet into a Ramen pack and eating it like a cracker." This man went to school for EIGHT YEARS, married another doctor, and he admits to this freely in public. SMDH Koreans do that all the time. There's also a snack food called bbushu bbushu that is basically ramen you are supposed to eat dry with the seasoning. Can't say I see an issue with the occasional snack, as long as it is occasional and a snack. I'm not sure why being a doctor is an issue here either. …

Within the internal logic of the show her behaviour is never framed as problematic, only sexy. Contrast with the framing of the wizard in the 1st episode, who only had illusions of naked women (and Geralt's expressions) and that's where my issue comes in. No engagement with the issue in Yennefer's arc, just "I Am EmPoWeReD because VIOLENCE and TREATING PEOPLE BADLY YAAAS!" Truly, a show written by libfems.

I found Yennefer problematic because of the magic rapefest pretending to be an orgy. The castle servants were magically induced to bang and when the spell is waved off you can see some of them looking confused/disgusted as they disengage.

As an ethnic Korean... I would run, tbh. Red flags all around.

I agree. It's psychologically significant that they want an inanimate stand-in for a human woman to abuse. This is not like a dildo or a fleshlight - the doll is designed to be representative in a way those toys are not. They'll eventually escalate and they will have trained themselves into a woman = sex doll equivalence by then.

Correct. I've often found it impossible to have a theory- informed conversation with libfems. It's all easy-to- digest tumblr bits combined with mental gymnastics. Exhausting.

Oh my god why did you move here... we're literally at the start of Klein's Cuts Part 2: Electric Boogaloo. Seriously, I grew up here and I'm gtfoing hard asap. And yeah don't bother with the men here. Pick up a hobby or something. Much better use of time!
