You're kinda splitting hairs. The salient point is, the states have an incentive to order and collect child support to get the costs of collection reimbursed by the federal gov't and state taxpayers. Gov't wants to get bigger, with larger staff, budgets, salaries, and pensions. From their perspective they forgo free money when they don't order and collect child support.

Yeah, imagine being a kid born a few years after the Black Death swept through. That'd be life on easy mode, relatively speaking. Instead of 7 people sharing a room, it's down to 4. Wages are higher because there's a labor shortage. Etc. Money talks, BS walks. That's why I think their hard line on immigration will crack. Racists deigned to let blacks sit at the front of the bus for the same reason, after a boycott. Blacks weren't so subhuman after all, when money was at stake.

Playing devil's advocate a bit... if the other dude is in the picture and responsible, the kid can be a net benefit and not cost a lot. My stepdaughter (not by marriage) has been in my life since she was 3. I've enjoyed watching her grow up. Her dad paid for her college. She's an adult now, one of the best people I know, still goes on vacations with my son and I. Probably a ton of luck involved though.

No windows should ever point North in the Northern hemisphere When you keep thinking like this, you may find many more passive & cheap ways to be more efficient. How about solar panels? A friend of mine who lives off the grid paid about $8k for his setup, and now has plenty of power. He put a small chest freezer on a timer that turns off the freezer frequently to convert it to an efficient refrigerator. Another way is to freeze drinking water in plastic half-gallon juice bottles, and then let them thaw in a cooler which serves as your refrigerator.

I'm probably netting $600 a month on mine. You'll need to do a lot of boondocking to save on gas. Here is one of the best places I've found for that, in southern CA. When I was there in December, the weather was perfect. There were RVs spread about a mile apart from one another. There's a small town with a nice public library about 10 miles away. The area is surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is worthy of being a national park.

My advice to you: Obviously even if your money only kept pace with inflation you could be financially comfortable to the end of your days. So be sure the enjoyment you get from trying to beat inflation is worth the time you're spending on that.
