honest question: why are you trying to reason with these guys?

Whose job is it, then?

The post doesn’t prove that, though. Women are paid to teach and to work in medicine. We can talk about whether they’re paid enough, but that is conditional.

That is not what a protector looks like. Were the conscripted French soldiers on the Marne in 1914 not protectors, then? Even if it’s not all men, the fact that this reaction shows up so consistently says something. Does it? If the same social media-addled hundred dudes (or bots) show up to every post, that isn’t a generalizable sample. That doesn’t look like a natural instinct to protect or take responsibility. It looks conditional. Unless you believe in God, there is no such thing as unconditi…

Your suggestion for dealing with misplaced feelings is therapy. Lot of the guys I know can’t afford it. So, what’s the alternative? At risk of banality, feelings aren’t based on a rational assessment of whether or not they’re justified. They arise, fair or unfair, and people struggle to deal with them. That’s not someone “allowing” feelings to stunt their growth. Unless you think it’s a conscious choice to feel something?

How would one respond to being born in Afghanistan to achieve a better result than I can in the United States?
/r/PurplePillDebate25/10/25 01:06 PM

But they don’t. I don’t choose to be born in Liverpool in 1899. I don’t choose to get conscripted into the British Army. I don’t choose to take part in the first wave of the Somme offensive and, consequently, die. Alternatively, people don’t choose to be born in Afghanistan. But they’re not going to have the same schooling opportunities as I have. That’s not a choice, unless you’re arguing everyone should risk their lives to escape, which is absurd. Even if you made that choice, you could still …

regardless of starting point how one exercises agency in response to both negative and positive stimuli, is pivotal to their outcomes. What do you mean by pivotal?

How is life at all meritocratic? Where you’re born, to whom, and when all dramatically alter your opportunities. Nothing about life is meritocratic. Putting in effort delivers consistent returns very rarely - the only thing that really comes to mind is the gym.

The manosphere offers two crucial things to young men: a community and an easy explanation for the difficulties and frustrations they experience. In general, people as a whole are lonelier than they have been in the past. The pervasive influence of mobile phones, attention-commanding algorithms, video games, and bingeable television diminishes people’s desire to go out. This has, alongside online shopping, attenuated third spaces and community groups. People are making fewer friends. They spend …

I basically agree, I would only add that time, being a zero-sum resource, is now much more seldom expended going out. Twenty years ago, people would spend maybe an hour a day on their phone, and I think that might overstate it. Today, it could be four to six hours. More, for younger demographics. That’s not to say that twenty years ago was a paradise of reading and going out. Computers, games, and TV are still around, but the competition for people’s attention has never been as fierce as in this…

this is correct that said, if our demographic pyramid completely inverts, we’re in for a societal shit-show that will make the late sixties look like a Victorian tea party

I think if you steelman the red pill argument, it comes to this: On dating apps, women swipe on approx. 7% of profiles. Generally research shows that women have fairly consistent ratings of male attractiveness based on physical features (sources below). A 0.5 to 0.7 range shows that there is still room for subjective/individual preference but that there are clear objective indicators of attractiveness. If we were to apply that .5-.7 consistency to the 7% selection we would expect that women have…

Complaining is cathartic, a psychological release valve for the various frictions of life. Most people like to complain. The title of your OP, strictly read, is true. But people aren’t complaining with the expectation that a solution will manifest itself. They complain to feel seen in a society that does not value any person beyond how much money they have.

I agree, but it’s easier said than done. The screen is designed to addict. In a perfect world, attention-commanding algorithms would be banned.

To be honest, that would be a solid start.

The algorithms are designed to command attention, though. I don’t want to defenestrate personal choice, but if radicalizing posts get people to click, that’s what the site shows people.

What’s your evidence that this presents an actual barrier? How would a person even know about their partner’s dating history?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/04/25 11:09 PM

There are, I think, a significant number of good options. But the question itself is wrong. Social media is designed to command attention by any means necessary. When the platforms show videos like this to someone who can only dream of having fifty options to choose from, what other emotion could that possibly elicit except some mixture of envy and anger? Dating is difficult for everyone. The constant back and forth over which gender has it worse obfuscates the truth - that we live in an increas…

instead, many guys choose to ignore that and chase a more painful “truth” because they want to feel betrayed. This post is good, I only disagree with this last statement. I think these dudes are in a dilemma. For one reason or another, they aren’t receiving the validation they desire from ladies. They could find fault in themselves and work on self-improvement. No guarantee that this works, and it hits your self-esteem, which may already be fragile. Or, they can find fault with women/society. If…

/r/PurplePillDebate20/04/25 05:06 AM

Ah… but that’s inconvenient to acknowledge. Men and women who have been in relationships aren’t damaged goods. They’re people with flaws and imperfect judgment. I dislike the OP’s use of the word “healed”, with the implication that people sustain some kind of permanent psychic injury if they have an ex. It reeks of pair-bonding rhetoric.

option B is, by almost any metric, far better. what’s disturbing is how many people are responding as if these are both bad or, even more insane, that A is somehow superior.
