I see this a lot on dating profiles. They will specifically mention something about being burned in the past, and are projecting it onto future partners. It's really off-putting, because they're keeping you at arm's length before you've even had a chance to talk to them.

I completely agree with you. However, my comment was targeting the first two paragraphs of the linked article.

To the best of my knowledge, that is going to backfire on her. If you are the primary caretaker, she will have to pay you child support.

I hear you brother. In other threads, this has been discussed as the disconnect switch in women. Your struggles with mental health are entirely understandable and nothing to be ashamed about. I am still struggling with this myself, even after 8 months. I don't know if this helps or hurts, but I would rate myself a solid 7.5 and I can't even find any dates. Women are just completely unrealistic with their expectations.

I'm sorry to hear about your story, brother. However I can totally relate to where you are coming from. My ex went from having a great relationship together, to separating in about 72 hours. I think men genuinely love their families and formulate a bond with their partners and children. Women don't develop this same bond, and see men as being disposable. It has been more than 6 months for me, and I barely ever see my children. I'm still in the process of healing from the emotional trauma that sh…

The best advice I can give you, in all honesty, is "play it cool." Don't get angry and lash out, like I did. You have a right to be angry, frustrated, tired, and a plethora of other feelings. However, if you want the best revenge on her, you have to keep your cool. I understand that it's very hard to do, and I have thus far failed to do so.

I am somewhere in the middle of this pipeline. What do you recommend men do to "follow through?" Should we just accept the fact that no one cares about us, and continue working, despite the fact that it's almost worthless and pointless to do so?

Join the club. None of my family members care about my destroyed family situation. No one wants to provide any support to me to fight my ex for full custody of my children. Even my own parents have taken her side, and just expect me to produce results. Not a single person in the world can simply shut up and empathize with me. Life sucks as a man. For most people, men are just disposable.

Wow, that is a crazy story, my friend. This is exactly why I'm highly skeptical of taking advice from anyone, especially therapists or "counselors." I'd rather hear what a trusted friend thinks of my situation, as they're at least somewhat emotionally invested in me. Anyway, I am glad that you're finally out of that cruddy situation! That sounds a little different. In that scenario, it sounds like they are just pruning inactive accounts. I'm in the same boat as you, brother. I do really good work, but it doesn't matter unless other people are interested in the work that I'm doing. Modern relationships are incredibly hard, and it's hard for anyone to get other people to see their worth. I suppose my best advice is just to continue exercising the skills that you uniquely have, and keep producing. 100% agree on not marrying and combining finances. Having children is a tough one ... if you want them, that's great, but you also have to recognize the severe risks that they create. I have three children, and my ex has weaponized them against me, made up false accusations against me, and so on. Unfortunately I have to agree with not committing to women either. I never verbally abused my ex, but I did say many things that hurt her, because she cared about me. It's hard to explain. I accept responsibility for the things that I said wrong. I'm still angry about her leaving, and taking my children away from me, but sometimes I have to go back and remind myself that I kind of caused this. Two wrongs don't make a right either. I am not aware of any Affidavit of Paternity being filed with the court. That is something I will have to do some research on and inquire about. Thank you for mentioning it. I know that the visitation schedule is graduated somewhat, but not for a long while. From what you're saying, 20% * 30 days would be 6 days per month, and I have 24 hours total (split up) right now. There is one factor that may have caused this in the short term, but I would rather not share that specific detail here. Either…

That's less that a quarter of your income to your three kids. 150k gross income is about 95k in net income. 36k child support is 37.8% of 95k, because it's tax-free to her. That's a lot more than a quarter. Maybe use some PTO or stress leave and work on you I did take some PTO and my employer was very understanding. But in the end, no one looked at the total, final outcome. I felt like I was only one in the courtroom who could add. Whoever you are, I love you (no homo). First, in some states, the cost of travel to visit your kids can be factored in to child support This is an amazing tip. I will be badgering my attorney about this. Second, have you considered going back to court to file a motion to reconsider? Perhaps the judge didn't impute any income to mom. Eventually I will do this, but it took her some…

But it's overruled by a higher court called mathematics Dude, you are a winner with that statement. Thank you for actually being rational. If I make $6,000 a month, but have expenses (including child support) totaling $7,000 monthly, how the hell am I supposed to make this work? And to make things even worse, the attorney is telling me that my child support will actually go up based on last year's tax return filing! I pointed this out to my attorney repeatedly. He kept defending her saying that she could go wherever she wanted to. I argued with him on the phone for hours about this, and he racked up my bill, and we ultimately got nowhere. I knew I should have terminated mediation and gone to court to see a judge. I don't care where my ex goes to. What I do care about is where my children are located, but apparently I just don't get a say about that whatsoever, even though I am their father. Calling attorney…

Do you already have a list of bullet points for non-negotiable items, and items you have some leniency on? I would jot these down ahead of time, so that you have a good reference point to work off of. Talking to a therapist is not going to fix my financial situation, and it won't get me my children back. That is the root cause of the anxiety and lack of sleep. I'm not interested in masking symptoms, but solving problems. I understand what you're saying about finding the right type of doctor, but no matter the type of doctor, they are not going to be able to resolve the root cause of the problem. Doctors are not attorneys. This is basic stuff, man.

I'm glad you asked. Literally the only response I could get from my attorney, like a broken record, was "she has the constitutional right to travel."
