And as I got older, I only saved more. I made a couple wise investments namely in a firm that trades energy in Canada. They trade energy like you would trade stock. It was a wise investment. I have never "bought" a new car. I don't drink alcohol (huge money saver). My only credit card is for gas and some groceries and I manage the limit smartly. I didn't spend much money growing up because we were poor and I don't spend much now as I am very careful to resist lifestyle creep. Marriage has intrinsic value which some need to further their goals, such as positions in office for instance. Being a non-married white male with a kid or two doesn't bode well if you want to do something, like enter congress. There are other mitigating factors at play which I didn't disclose. However, I've thought long and hard about the situation, and it is my chosen path. Additionally, In most states in the US a person can be found not legally able to make these types of decisions not being married.
