Thank you. Same your way brother. I want to share this quote and my personal writing about it through meditation—because it’s what’s gotten me through the most difficult days. “My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity.” -Friedrich Nietzsche This powerfully encapsulates his philosophy of “amor fati”, which means “love of fate” in Latin. Nietzsche is saying that true greatness lies in the ability …

They don’t give a shit. They’ll take it all and ask for more the next day.

My daughter is honestly the only reason I don’t break mentally—I’m a father, I don’t have that option. I know it’ll be better in the future but I can’t help but think about how completely unfair the entire situation is. The worst part, I didn’t even try to screw her in mediation—I was MORE than generous with my offer.. just to have her come at me for everything. She literally asked for alimony in perpetuity.. we were married 5 years.. what the hell are you thinking? Asked me to pay back pay in c…

TN, 31 years old. Me: ~94k annual earnings Her: ~50k annual earnings 1 child 45/55 custody split, she’s 55% $880/month in child support (was originally $1,280) $1,780/month in alimony She effectively gets 55% of my paycheck, and I’m still responsible for 65% of educational and medical expenses. During mediation I basically had the choice of taking her to court and saving the same amount of money I am currently paying her in alimony. My lawyer was ethical and said “do you want to give me the mone…

Thanks. I don’t want to be a dick, but she isn’t leaving me with much of a choice.

I’m in the process of addressing all of this with my lawyer now. I trusted her, and I’m starting to think I shouldn’t have. I have no ill intent, I don’t want to fuck over my ex wife. I care about her deeply and want her to be okay financially, but I have to take care of myself as well. Her biggest issue is her student loans, they’re literally 42% of her net income, and her lawyer pushed that hard. While I feel for her, they aren’t my loans.

Oh I got fucked, and I’m aware of it. I just didn’t know what to do so I listened to my lawyer, and I’m beginning to think that was a mistake. I left the home, she stays for two years before she has to either sell or refinance. She got 75% of the equity, albeit it won’t be much equity so I’m not completely bent out of shape about that.

And as crazy as it seems, this is walking back from what they asked for. We had discussed the situation prior to mediation and I had offered to allow her to live in our home for two years while I pay the mortgage, splitting the home equity 50/50 at the end of the two years. I went into mediation with a verbally agreed upon settlement with the ex wife, and then she flipped entirely at mediation. She and her lawyer came out full force and asked for alimony en perpetuity, her to never have to refin…
