Being centrist is far from having no opinion.

If this is the only time that the teacher has said something like this, firing is probably a little harsh. (Just because she is described as a Feminist in the article, does necessarily mean she spouts off sexist stuff regularly.) Maybe someone should probably point out what is wrong with her statement. If she has said things like this a few times in the past, it is probably time for mandatory discrimination training.

Yeah, I missed the apology too. Unless you count them scrabbling around on their facebook page trying to calm everyone down apologizing.

They are here, they just don't speak up much on reddit.

I see your point, but sure they do. Be a man and get a job. Be a man and move out of your parent's basement. Be a man (or more likely, just Man up) and ask her out. The first two would would likely be in the guy's best interest and are just another way of saying to act like an adult. The third one is more situational, but could still be some encouragement for some last minute needed bravery.

I had to go back and re-read that to hear Morgan Freeman now.

That's just part of it here. I've seen a lot of hate against people who are either pro- or even neutral toward it on this sub. There is a lot more to MRA other than this one topic, so hopefully those who don't agree on this one point are not alienated because of it.

I don't make these arguments in the feminists subs, because from the history I have had reading in those subs, they aren't open for discussion. Feminists subs here (and elsewhere) are not interested in discussion from a different viewpoint. (MR sometimes isn't either.) While the fem-subs are far from the most extreme things you will see out there, keep in mind there is another realm of feminism that doesn't and wouldn't troll on the internet. When it comes to forums, it is generally the loudest …

Correct, academic feminism isn't any better. It is the same mindset that fuels these blogs and sexists legislation to begin with.

We will have to disagree on what it means to seek equality then. That's fine, I understand where you are coming from, but I still believe it is fully possible for both sides to push from their own side with the purpose of meeting in the middle. (The problem, in practice is, some sides find it profitable to keep pushing even after they have hit the middle on some issues. This is where our problems with feminism arise.) they don't claim to be an egalitarian movement They often do. Many people in t…

I never said you give in to demands just because one side brings up the issue and nothing should be discussed and reviewed. Don't try to claim that I think we should just get steamrolled and let these feminists do whatever they want even when it is beyond what is reasonable. We should generally never completely trust someone when it comes to legislation that will impact everyone, everything should be considered as a whole before anything is written into law. All those issues you brought up? Thos…

Hadn't had chance to read through much of the sub yet today. (Most of my spare time has gone into replies here.) I'll take a minute to read it shortly, my blood pressure could stand for a little rise.

Haven't heard that about Italy, but yeah, that is ridiculous.

Right. And that is where the feminists started, gaining ground where they were unfairly behind. So the MRM is fighting for equality, but we are only pushing from our side to what is fair. This is still what the core of feminism was about. Remember, I'm not saying that all or even most of what we hear from feminism is fair. Most of what we hear is downright outrageous, because it is the crazy, sexist stuff that gets the most distance. My original argument is that feminism isn't all unreasonable, …

These social norms are actually one of the first issues I thought of. No, this isn't something that could fairly be legislated, but it is still an issue. Honestly, while I know there are some more issues out there, I'm having a hard time remembering valid ones at the moment. The feminist movement of the past has made great strides in reaching equality that can be legislated, the MRM is just beginning that battle.

They were fighting for equality, but primarily on issues where women were disadvantaged. Because of this, yes, there is still a need for the MRM. And once again, we need to stop pretending that ALL feminism is about weakening men and putting women on top. It isn't. Saying this over and over makes the MRM look like we are fighting women instead of fighting for me. It is analogous to saying that MR is all about putting women back in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. That's not what you or I beli…

The idea isn't that one party is to be held above the other, it is that one party sees where it can be disadvantaged as works toward solving that issue. Men Rights is obviously male-centric, do you think that people here believe they should be held above others?

If women have the best perspective to ascertain what women's issues are Yes, they do. then men have the best perspective to ascertain what men's issues are. Bingo. That's where the whole flipped genders comment comes in. Each gender will in general identify their own issues before they will they will identify the issues the other side is facing. Nothing wrong with that. Yes, many feminist will scream and throw fits saying there is no reason for MR as feminism takes care of their issues as too. W…

I don't believe that all feminism is childish. There are absolutely some issues today that women face that can give them a disadvantage (on average) when compared to men. (Some) feminism (being female centric) should and does try to address these concerns in a fair way. Women have a perspective where they can more easily identify issues they face (this is not to say that men can't also see the issues, but since men don't necessarily face these issues as often, they may not identify them as easil…

It isn't fair. But for the most part, we have decided as a society it is beneficial for a parent to be able to stay home and give the attention a newborn requires.

While I don't share your opinion on the importance of dna between a couple, you get an upvote from me for putting forth a very valid position to have. I would tend to lean toward the idea that the mere donation of sperm or eggs would be less of a big deal than if a parent had extramarital affair or somehow spent other physical or emotional energy on raising another child/family. To me, the donation of gametes is kind of a give and forget kind of thing from the donators point of view. Granted, it…

Ok, out of pure curiosity on your viewpoint: Most people would consider sexual intimacy incredibly important to be kept between spouses once they are married. Are you applying a similar standard to fertility and DNA? I'm not saying that that is a bad stance to have, I just hadn't considered that as a position.

Donating eggs and being a surrogate mother would be two completely different things. Her donating eggs would have a much smaller impact on our relationship. Being a surrogate, however, could directly impact much of our relationship for the better part of a year. But neither of them (nor donating my own sperm) should be made illegal. Both partners should feel free to discuss honestly how they feel about the situation, and respect the other person's opinion, but you shouldn't be able to force some…

It's not likely that we would find many moderate voices on a site like that. That site (or at least that article) looks to be mainly a circle-jerk for self congratulation and victim-hood. Based on some of the comments I read, it is likely any moderate feminists that might have left that site long ago. It doesn't mean that moderate feminists don't exist, it means they just don't frequent sites that are quite that biased. The same bias will often occur in academic feminism as well. As with many th…

Because not all feminists follow that philosophy. There are still feminists out there that believe the sexes should be more or less treated equally. This is what the majority of feminists were originally fighting for. You could argue that they should now call themselves egalitarians instead then, but there are at least 2 counter arguments for that. 1) We call ourselves Men's Rights Activists even though many (most) of us are really egalitarians. 2) Just because one of the loudest segments of the…

This is what some feminists think like. I will even give you, this is what many feminists think like. (Especially the loud ones.) We can't just assume that all feminists buy into this level of hypocrisy.

Yes, the numbers are misleading. Most people will look at the crime rate increase and assume that it means that more crime is being committed, not that more of it is just being reported and documented. This is a good thing all around.

Yes, you were completely off-base. Generally it isn't a good idea to assume your partner is taking any precautions. Good luck. It will probably be ok, just prepare yourself for any fallout.

Yes, while her reply was ignorant and sexist, his reply was equally as stupid and only served to increase the divide and reinforce any sexist thoughts she had against men.

Yeah, that was probably not the best way to handle the situation. They had made it clear that that was a women only space, and I believe that is a fair request. (Having male only, and everyone allowed spaces are also fine.) It looks more like he was going to a forum that by name was targeted at females, and decided to start a fight.

While I think this an interesting story, I agree that this isn't really a Men's Rights issue.
