Games serve a purpose of relaxation and entertainment. So as with all things that serve this purpose, use in moderation.

Depending on the job, there are usually 2-3 interviews, one where they assess you as a person and one or two where they assess your technical and cooperative skills. The technical and cooperative assessment, are usually performed by technical people who are interested to see if you know what they know. And to show off their own skill, in my experience. In the get to know you part, some questions are definitely shit tests. But when they come, you should have built up rapport to be able to answer …

Good pointers. Everyone should include this in their calculations before they jump in the water. I did.

Take a carpenter. One day he suddenly decides he want to build stuff for people without giving 70% of the money to his boss. So he just starts to build stuff for people himself. This is not a novel idea. It's just getting paid more for the same job.

At any time someone can go back to being employed for someone else. Some might view it as a defeat, but sometimes it's more practical. What triggered me is basically that I do work that is valued x. I get paid x/10. This somehow did not resonate with my opinion of fairness.

What business is this? Sounds horrible.

Yes, this is perfect example of game/business correlation.

Indeed. I had to do my own thing to get what you get by default. You have a sweet deal. Only problem is if you lose your job. (hope it does not happen). Then you are at your next employers mercy.

I understand your confusion. It makes no sense. But my thinking was that by showing no interest in money, I would get more. Sounds silly, but this was my rationale at that point in life.

My secondary source of income is something along the lines of what you try to achieve. My tip to you, get someone to pay something for it quickly. Even if it is only a little. You will gain leverage, you can sell to similar customers. And you might get a close partner from whom you can validate your ideas. And they will give you ideas. And probably most important, you will be accountable to them. This gives motivation by commitment. Good luck

Yes and I fucking loved it. Finally someone who calls out the "follow your dream" bullshit that a lot of people push. His points about career capital is also a unique concept. Without my career capital, my moves would not work. But I think his most important point is that most people don't know their passion, they think they do, but they really don't. And the reason he says is because they never really tried to find it. They never really got good at anything. And this is sad. You are on the righ…

I downloaded this torrent pack with pick up material. One of the books was The Game. But the one that had the most interesting stuff was just a .pdf written by some random dude I think. That material is long lost I'm afraid.

I will never get filthy rich doing exactly what I do now, but I will earn enough to live more freely than I did. Working less, earning more. And I believe any one of us can do that.

Good points. Building network is very important. I would say: Money is not everything if you have enough of it. So 8 figures, that will be at least 10 000 000 (correct me if I am wrong). So using a guy that has that kind of money, as an example of money not being everything, makes no sense to me.

You can most def. be alpha and assertive as an employee, in almost all respects except money. This is my experience, if yours differ, that's great.

Don't forget that academia consists of the biggest egos in the business. These guys/gals actually have serious enemies/nemesis which would want nothing else, but to see someone discredited and humiliated publicly. So when an opportunity like this offers itself, it's simply too good to pass up. Feminism is probably only one of a few forces at play here.

It's on its way. I just watched Ghost Dog a few days ago, and I ordered some of the bad ass literature he fills his head with.

Just remember, for every story like this, there is a story about the couple who stayed happily married for 60 years until death did them part.

Don't hire anyone until they have worked for you. Trial period, consulting or something similar.

This kinda switcharoo is common in scandinavia for all kinds of crimes. Someone breaks into your house and you get scared and hit them in the head, you are charged with violence. So I am not surprised at the outcome of this at all.

Thanks for giving us the back story on your friend. I can tell that you still seek your beta friends approval. Otherwise you would not have to attack his character like that, to get us to understand that you are really cool and totally not beta. It's great to see you have success with women, try not to become one in the process.

Most people does not know what they want, simply because they have never experienced it. So keep exploring, remember a job has multiple dimensions to it. Explore all the sides to it. Maybe you'll find something really interesting that you can set your mind to. Once you do this, the ball will start rolling if you are in a decent company.
