I think it's a mix of false and repugnant. A vast majority of my life experience (anecdotes aren't evidence to convince others, but they're what we base our own beliefs on) runs directly counter to TRP philosophy. All of my experience with people who've taken the RP is they have become really awful company. I enjoy my life by surrounding myself with people I respect and who respect me, so a philosophy grounded in intentionally surrounding yourself with people you don't respect seems counterprodu…

I see this all the time from MRA, RP, and other "so mad at the SJW" types... how the hell do you know who's downvoting? You're so sure that it's this one group of people that's downvoting you... I'm pretty thoroughly BP, and I essentially never downvote on reddit at all, it's a waste of time. I'm certainly not the only one. You can't see who's downvoting, what makes so sure?

Insanely toxic levels of BP circle jerking aside I firmly believe that "other people are doing it too" is probably the best defense ever. Huge flaw in your reasoning. Both of the examples given by OP are using the lowest common denominator of the other side to justify actions to all. So it's not saying "someone's coming to kill me, I'm justified in using killing", it's more analogous to "someone somewhere is killing another, therefore I am justified in killing". This is so much worse than eye fo…

Lol not being an asshole isn't a universal truth, obviously. Just basic human decency.

The shitty part of that quote isn't advocating someone leave an abusive relationship. That's a complicated issue (people stay in abusive relationships for a variety of reasons and the judgment that comes from strangers who don't know the details is often sexist and agency-denying), but not the obviously fucked up part of your quote. It's the second clause, where you straight up claim it is not your job to treat other people fairly, that has people mocking you. Most of us learned how to treat eac…

Blue pill was a term coined by the red pill community. I mean, let's give the Wachowski Starship some credit here, they coined both.

Except that many of us in TBP don't feel like the "problems" you're trying to solve exist. So if we don't stipulate the "problem" then there's no burden on us to provide an alternative to solving it.

Because caricature and satire are too complicated to understand? Someone satirizing a view they find silly or mockable is not an uncommon experience in the world.

point missed. Here's the thing, I'm not trying to draw an exact equivalency (you can't - the only thing that's just like theft is theft, and the only thing that's exactly like raising a child that isn't yours is... raising a child that isn't yours) but I'm looking at some parts that are similar to other experiences to try and understand it better. You pointing out a meaningless difference doesn't add to the understanding. The similarity between adoption, surrogacy, and step parenting and the sit…

That is some unbelievable racism. I can't even. Good luck in life, you racist, sexist, pig.

Wanting an heir for a variety of reasons isn't the same as demanding that any child you raise be half your genetic material. I'll point you to a variety of cultures where in-tribe adoption is viewed as an absolutely normal reaction to a child born into a family that can't take care of it. OH THOSE POOR MEN HAVING TO RAISE A NON-GENETIC PROGENY IT MUST BE THEFT. And here I am appealing to culture. Okay, if you can't see how following up with "It is exactly" with "isn't that different" is just rid…

It's a big reason to you. And that's your thing. But you don't speak for all men, I'm 90% sure you don't have a kid just from reading your naive attitude towards parenting, so you don't even have a stake in this. Don't appeal to all cultures like you're an anthropologist either. Committing to raising a child, putting your love, time and affection towards making that child's life the best you can, these decisions don't follow a rational appraisal of genetics. I again point you to adoption, surrog…

Do you honestly believe that the only reason a man "invests his time and money" into a child is because of a genetic obligation? The rest of your argument aside, let's look at what's underlying your disgust and horror at the 1 in 10 statistic. You call it "theft" which implies that literally the only reason you can imagine a man would invest any money or effort into child rearing would be because the child has ~50% of his genetic material. I assume you've never read about adoption, surrogacy, st…

Big leap from "most common thing" to "creates the most success and happiness" that you blew past at 60 with no support or explanation...

TRP sidebar: "Women are irrational and inconsistent", "Hamstering", "Women are not logical", etc. I'm sorry, but "dumber" becomes a perfectly valid characterization when you call someone illogical, inconsistent, irrational, and that their brain is a hamster running on a wheel. This is not a stretch.

film crit hulk had a pretty spectacular write up on it here but I understand if the wall of all-caps puts you off reading it. Essentially, it's not the existence of rape in movies, it's the way it's used. The story that's told. In movies, everything happens because a writer/director decided it happens. So the question becomes "what are you saying with that action?" What is too often said, when rape is portrayed in movies, is either this is a cheap shortcut to actual character development to add …

Hrmm... but what if they both don't want a kid, he uses birth control, and a kid happens anyway? By taking some steps to prevent it you assuage responsibility? If a woman's on birth control is the man solely responsible for the baby?

What's the logic on that? I mean, if it's as good as the female pill, it's still less than 100% effective. So how does being on the pill automatically disqualify you as being the father? Also, why wouldn't a simple DNA test suffice?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
