I can see the dry cleaning and hair cuts, but why do they have to pay more for car repairs, razors or toiletries?

It's not as black-and-white, but at the grocery store that I work at, they don't hire males as cashiers. I asked if they would consider hiring my friend, and the manager asked if my friend peed sitting down. Literally. They have over 20 cashiers and most of them are highschool-aged girls. The rest are older women.
