You read very carefully and have great insight. Yes, thinking back on the story, I also think that this is a very important detail and I did leave it out of the original post. The discussion here teased it out. Forget about the oysters, forget about the beach towels, and forget about the bikinis. A very nice girl opened up to me, I reciprocated with a very natural question, and she was made noticeably uncomfortable by it and didn't answer. This crippled the conversation. I thought: "Oh, so you d…

I asked her. This is an automatic question, given the context of the conversation, so of course it came up. But she didn't answer for some reason. I was thinking over the scenario, and this particular beach is in a posh, high-end area surrounded by luxurious multi-million dollar mansions. I think the beach sometimes attracts girls from other cities looking for wealthy guys who like to hang out there.

These are good suggestions. Will use them next time.

So what I'd really like to see is someone write it all up like a script for next time. What would you say and how would you expect the entire dialog/exchange to go?

It's not that difficult to understand when you put it in these terms. Let me see if I can paraphrase: we value what we obtain when we have to work for it, more than what we get when something just falls into our laps. Provide a little challenge for her right off the bat. Put a stake in the ground that tells her you are earned, not just picked up. She'll value that and go after it. If you're just compliant, she will lose interest because then anyone can get you. "It's not about the oysters" is my…

So, just trying to understand, and not being all logical about it, an opening question like that is more about a girl gauging how much you're not like most guys? And to lead the way with an alternative, like a good burger, is attractive because the girl understands that they've found someone unique who wouldn't do the obvious thing most guys would do? Is this why the approach works? If so, I'll just try it next time. Sounds much easier than what I had in mind which was to demonstrate responsiven…

"It's not about the oysters", is understanding more that I did right then and there in the moment. I think I get it now. Good insight for next time. And she probably thought she was interested at first, but then changed her mind. If so, then there's not much more I could have said or done, right?

So I'd like to think that the take charge approach is what girls are looking for, but isn't that off-putting? She clearly asked about oysters specifically, probably because they are a notorious aphrodisiac, and wanted to convey that she was into me in this way, or at least curious. Why switch it up like that to burgers? In other words, I'm not questioning the approach, just trying to understand why it would be engaging? Maybe you're answering the original question which is, "what would they real…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
