Fair enough. And to your second point... agreed. It’s a work in progress.

are you saying you and wife do not sleep in the same room? We sleep in the same room. I was just rambling that there was no real excuse not to get busy since we do have separate rooms for ourselves and our house guest. a -20 mummy bag or better. long underwear, stocking cap, and light gloves. a sleeping pad (not air mattress) under the bag. Did a test run last night with success. It was cold but not below freezing which are the same conditions I expect this weekend, so it's looking like a go. no…

I'll look more into keto, thanks. If I can find an sustainable advantage, I will of course go for it. A personal friend also mentioned it last week, coincidentally. And yes, taking on more work next weekend is also part of the plan. Edit, that's a great post you linked

Doesn't sit well with me, but great if it works for you. Hearing her ask for date nights is actually a positive sign to me. Women tend to say things indirectly, so reading between the lines she's asking to see more of me and there are implications of getting laid. The important difference between how I would have handled this situation in the past versus now is that in the past I would have started to slowly cancel my own plans to accommodate her. That's not happening anymore. Instead date night…

Most of my carbs come from sweet potatoes during the week. :) To be honest I don't track fat or carbs at all. I only keep a rough estimate on total daily calories and total daily protein grams- those are the most important for my goals. Outside of that I don't keep track of anything. But since I generally avoid fats during a diet, I probably end up filling the rest with carbs by default.

And during those periods my lifting performance would be impacted pretty badly. Cutting makes no sense if you cut muscle too. :/ In terms of those foods you mentioned, I go for 0% greek yogurt when I can. You can mix it with protein powder and it's a super high protein snack. Eggs are great too. I disagree with the peanuts though- you're look at a 2:1 ratio of fat to protein. Good for bulking, otherwise that would eviscerate my caloric deficit.

Honestly if you are in as good shape as you said, her comment really is laughable and if you even acknowledge it you are giving her comment credibility. If you don't act disrespected then her comment isn't disrespectful, it's just dumb in the face of obvious evidence to the contrary. Don't validate her by answering to it. If you feel disrespected, you must respect her comment in some way, see what I'm saying?

I would go for the home gym but to get all the nice equipment a commercial gym offers would require a substantial investment. Having said that, if money isn't a problem and you are self motivated enough to not use your equipment as a clothes drying rack, you would have some real benefits: No commute Never wait for equipment to be free again Never adjust equipment again Never have to smell that one dude who has never showered in his life Never have to listen to shitty music while lifting again I …

It’s not easy to own up to such a colossal fuck up. Good on you for that. But what’s the next step? How do you learn from this and improve?

I heard about the alphago stuff too. 4 hours... really incredible. There’s a good “wait but why” blog post on the potential of AI if you’re interested.

Keep the prize in the forefront of your mind- you will be so fucking happy once you are at a normal weight. Random brain dump: Make changes to your diet and then internalize them as the new normal. Don't go for crash diets or diets you hate- you need to make them healthy but also viable and realistic for the long run. Diet is the king for your bodyfat levels, it's easily 80% of what will get you there. Exercise is minor by comparison- you have to do a shitload of cardio to make a dent, and at yo…

I also had a very long stretch of time where most of my sex life was fulfilled by my hand and internet porn. Sex was only once in a while and low quality- during my peak beta-loser days. Things are much better now, although I still use porn when sex is off the table. I have no desire to change that, although I know some guys here would say I should. I like that I have an alternative if I get shot down and helps me become OI about rejection. But it's interesting- I used to get sex once every two …

No, I'm playing at Lichess. My rating there is 1750 but if I were on chess.com that would be about 1550. Thanks for the book recommendations. I've purchased a few in the past but never used them because compared to online training it can be quite slow and cumbersome to translate chess notation into chess moves on a board. Having said that I'm open to looking at a few again if it's what I need to do to improve. Would you say that chess books are still relevant in an age where visual chess trainin…

It's called Strongur, for iOS devices. It requires some patience to setup if you don't want to use the default routines (such as big six), but once you get past that it's quite nice to use. I found it after getting thoroughly pissed at the Jefit app which I had used before. The UI on that one is pretty terrible.

I think that's probably all I really can do, except perhaps to add that I can make it a goal to be more proactive / assertive / honest about making suggestions that we do these things. I can and will improve in all the ways prescribed here, but without speaking about blowjobs directly at some point I'm doubtful it would happen. But the key is to make the goal something I can control, such as suggesting it. That's also something prescribed by Stoics as if I understand it right.

I miss that guy. Here's another gem from some of his last years: "There are also people who say it's God's curse on me that I should have cancer near my throat because that was the organ of blasphemy which I used for so many years. I've used many other organs to blaspheme as well if it comes to that."

Hi everyone, I’ve lurked here for the last half year and am now ready to start contributing and getting feedback. I’ve decided there are a few areas I want to focus on mostly in 2018. They are: 1. Being more proactive / assertive / fun with my wife, kids, and at work. 2. My fitness goals. 3. Developing my own hobbies / friends and social life, and 4. Some very specific goals. Being more proactive / assertive / fun I believe it’s very important to be specific when setting goals, and I need your h…

Not what you want to hear, but there’s nothing you can do on the short run, don’t try to force anything. It will only make matters worse. This whole place is about the long game, the slow burn. If you can’t accept that you won’t find much value here.

Funny, I also watched 'It's a Wonderful Life' with the family this past week and made similar observations about George and his nice guy issues. I didn't catch the reason she fell for him though- that's a good point.
