I made a post on my FB wall saying I pretty much hit rock bottom and called out for help. Easier said than done. I contemplated making the post for several days because I was afraid of what people would think of me, you know...the usual toxic masculinity shit where men should just suck it up and deal with it. But eventually I was like "fuck that, Mark Manson said it was okay for men to be vulnerable and honest with themselves and to others". So I made the FB post... And ALOT of my friends reache…

30 M here. I wholeheartedly agree. I had a really bad mental breakdown back in early September that led me to not get more than 4 hours of sleep every night for 20+ days even though I had to be up at 5am to go work in the field for 10+ hr days. It sucked. My mental energy was gone. I was losing myself very quickly, not going out, and having major panic attacks several times a day. I began seeing a therapist and psychiatrist (for meds to manage my anxiety) and it's helped tremendously. I have a h…

Years later you'll be telling your kids "and that's how I met your mother!" But hilarity aside that was a good story. Something similar happened where I started to attend a Doctor Who/general sci fi interest club in grad school because I was stressed and lonely,. I made a lot of good friends in that group which led me to attend a Halloween party a few weeks later where I met a tall woman dressed as a cute witch. She knew some of my friends from the club I attended so that was a good conversation…

Thank you for spending the time and effort on this guide. I was wondering if you had giving Mark's other book "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***" yet? Some of the self mental things he covers in Models are more expanded in that book.

The cool part was, it seemed both you and the last women you talked about were pretty assertive about what you both wanted. We need more of that in the dating world. :) I've been on similar date where we were both assertive and it ended well two days later if you know what I mean ;)

I'm going to second this. A person needs to feel comfortable before opening up both physically and emotionally. They need to trust you. Trying to force that trust never works. Work on being more naturally trustful. This girl admitted to being naturally shy, so yes, it'll take some time. However, this doesn't mean stop kino-ing all together. Got to break that touch barrier early on, or the more awkward it'll get. Think of it as a chasm that gets exponentially larger between the two of you.

Ah gotcha. Thank you for the correction, I wasn't aware Latino was an American term. Sorry if I offended you.

All I'm going to say is, don't limit yourself. Talk with everyone. If you're proud of your culture, show it. Never let society force you to dull down who you are. If a woman doesn't like it, she wasn't for you. A true woman is someone who wants to spend quality time with you, is open minded, and will appreciate your Latino heritage and culture (or any other culture that is different from "American"). And the only way to find that woman is to talk with all the women you are attracted to.

Similarly this woman told me once, "I've never been with an Asian man before!" And I told her with a smile ,"me neither".

Props to you for making a geology pun. Anyway, do what you feel comfortable! Uni is full of single women both grad and undergrad, so it's great you won't limit yourself to just one department. The girl I got a number from a grad event is in the psych ddepartment. ..which is a world away from geology. It also helps that grad students like us have a fascination for all academia...it's always interesting hearing about other fields within school. Good luck!

Just started my geology MS program...might upgrade to a PhD. So ill be keeping an eye on this thread. But from what I've read below, I feel like grad school will be a fine balance of work, social life, and health. I've met alot of people through events hosted by the GSA, bars, trivia nights, a club I'm on the leadership board for (zombies vs humans), and just talking to random people while standing in lines (cafe, book store, register line, etc.). I also heard to try not to date within your depa…

I can't believe my highest karma comment on r/seddit is mildly racist. But it's ok, I'm Asian.

Not a dick move at all. On first dates I always ask to split the bill. If there was good chemistry and 2nd, 3rd, ..... dates are had the girl and I usually trade off on paying the bill. This one time the woman I am seeing bought me a pricey sandwich, literally whipped out cash before I could pay for it. So I repaid her by buying her a cool classic Thor comic book we found in an antiques shop (oddly enough they had a box full of old comic books). Then for our third date I invited her over to my p…
