I'm really getting tired of seeing posts that paint feminism, as a whole, in a negative light. Yes, the extremes of feminism are dangerous and harmful to the idea of gender equity. Yes, the extremes of masculism are equally as harmful. There are good feminists out there who want the same thing as those in this subreddit, but simply fly a different banner. This is why I wish we'd just adopt gender equity as our movement and cease these gendered counter movements. So please stop saying this is the…

I'm a bit surprised this post got this reaction -and- it's been upvoted. The video is demeaning in the most technical way. To demean is to cause a severe loss in the dignity of and respect for someone or something. In this case, the viewer is presented with a narrative about attraction. Both the man and the woman are being embodied by the features that the other focus on. The woman only sees the man's shaggy hair (and thus fails to see the entirety of him). The man only sees the woman's breasts.…

Context dictates everything. Referencing the other comics, it's clear that the creator takes shots at all contemporary schools of thought. Yes, this particular character is biased toward misandry, but there is that one line, "What about the men?" I think that's critical. The fact that the creator came up with that line shows that they are more than aware of the real issue.

For clarification, the second half of my comment was directed to the original poster, not you. He is very much in the wrong for blaming you. From your story, you haven't participated in the system keeping his workplace oppressive. That's the same logic that says, "A dog bit me once. Thus, all dogs bite people."

I agree the final comment was generalizing and uncalled for, but his points regarding alienation in the workplace seem valid. This place is enforcing crazy policies, and I'm certain other workplaces are doing the same. When assumptions and stereotypes dictate policies at any workplace, everyone's harmed. Poster: I'd encourage you to take back that spiteful comment at the end. Saying that is as bad as saying, "Thanks, men, for oppressing me." it's divisive. It ignores the allies in our communitie…

Terrible argumentation. We need to stop throwing stones at each other as our one solution for everything.

I sure do, but you put it all quite well. Bravo!

I agree, but I came into the post when it was originally flooded with those comments. The community is being supportive and doing their job downvoting, but those types of comments -do- showcase a type of bias people hold in their hearts out in the real world. I intended to spark a discussion on that specific bias that falls along gender and sexuality.

What I find most amazing about this is how efficiently it enforces stereotypical gender behavior of both men and women. Men = hardware stores. Women = jewelry. I suppose all gender-divisive advertising does that (a la Doctor Pepper Ten), but this made it painfully obvious to me.

Honest question. It's not awkward to me because I live it everyday. And I've used "partner" to refer to both men and women who I've dated.

As an Queer-identified man, I would be lost without the term "partner." I find comfort in its refusal to identify the gender of my loved one. "Husband" and "wife" can carry just as much societal stereotypes as "gay" and "straight." "Partner" is new enough and objective enough to not force me or my loved one into any stereotypes, and I find it no less romantic than any gendered term. Ultimately I think it's a great term to use when asking someone else about their relationship status; you avoid ma…

This sentiment, however, completely and actively oppresses the transgendered and gender-queer community. As-is, there is a split opinion over split bathrooms. Are they gender-based, or sex-based? Either way, a transgendered bathroom-goer is at most faced with expulsion via violence from the restroom, and at least the systemic psychological struggle of not having a safe space of their own. As an activist community, particularly one which is seeking to oust the shortcomings of popular activist the…
