I'm in the same boat of trying to be better than my parents so I sure hope so haha. In all seriousness no one can change their past. I think it's what you do with your experience and what lessons you learned from it that define who you are. It sounds like you're setting yourself up well and working to break those cycles!

My parents divorced when I was 3, so I don't remember them as a unit. What I remember was them both trying to one up each other as the better or favorite parent. It ended in me knowing the easiest parent to manipulate for each specific situation. I don't mean that in a totally negative way, like they both loved me and taught me important lessons but they had wildly different philosophies. I hope you can talk to your husband and lay out what you both want. Having one set of rules would definitely…

If you're talking feminine like baking and makeup, than YouTube is your bff. However, I think it's more a mental change you're after. I would say (for a lot of people) not being able to accept a compliment/chivalry is less a "masculine trait" and more a confidence issue. I'm guessing if he says you look pretty you have trouble accepting it because you don't feel "pretty". You can do makeup or hair, but at the end of the day you'll have to work at getting comfortable in your own skin to feel pret…

Yes this is real, although it's a bit insulting to insinuate we aren't "real"/are faking it.

You said you're good at Photoshop, maybe set up a page and commission your services? It's a low effort way to see if there's demand and it's viable. Plus, even if you go back to work it could be a part time side job.

That's so cute! We currently don't video chat much, but I'll try to bring up doing it more often. We talk on the phone a lot on his commute home which I really appreciate

Thanks, that's a nice idea! There's a few shows we both watch so that feels very doable.

Maybe see what kind of games he likes. Personally, I really liked watching my boyfriend play breath of the wild bc the game was really pretty and had a nice soundtrack, even if I'm trash at playing those kinds of games. If you just want to try gaming, I love playing sims. I know it's dorky, but it's my chill activity. Some women watch real housewives, I build virtual houses. My boyfriend doesn't get my games, but he looks at what I'm doing and lets me talk about it and he'll tell me about his st…

I'm a college student and I love baking, so when finals and midterms get crazy sometimes I'll take a break and make cookies. Both the act and the product are a reward for me! Bonus points I'm a favorite in group projects lol

These are all great ideas. Thank you so much! Even if I don't use them all now I'll definitely remember them for later lol. You're so right with me being the sentimental one, I need to look at it from his perspective more. Thank you!

That is so thoughtful! I might have to keep that in mind going forward

I appreciate the help! Who better to answer than a guy lol. He's more into practical gifts or nothing at all; receiving big/expensive things or even just excessive compliments make him uncomfortable. Unfortunately (for this purpose lol) he's also a really simple guy. His idea of a great time is some kind of a problem he can solve with his hands. He's also just going to be starting a new job right before our anniversary if that sparks anything.

That sounds so fun! I'll have to look into what they cost, we have to replace our car bc it had mechanical issues so cash is a bit tight rn. But if it works out that sounds so lovely

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
