The issue is that as a guy "Oh, I'm not gay. I just watch gay porn" is a pretty hard sell lol

Man as a dude I have been sometimes alarmed at how extreme some things women ask me to do. I know porn is a problem that typically affects men more but some of the stuff requested of me is more extreme than any porn I watch. And there's this weird element of emasculation, like if I don't want to choke and slap this woman she'll sort of look at it like I'm being a pussy. You really touched on something I don't hear mentioned often

You asked where, they tell you where, and your response is just "well don't look at it". Mind-numbing discourse

Thank you for saying this lol. There's really nothing wrong with making a new friend but sometimes that's just not what you're looking for. I don't get why people frame that as such a malicious thing. Like don't be disrespectful or anything but if two people don't want the same thing then why stick around?

Most of the times someone has ever said I was marriage material is quite literally when someone was letting me down gently so I think this is where the idea comes from lol.

Thank you for understanding this lol. I don't really have an issue with someone saying "you would make a great husband some day!". That's a wonderful thing for someone to say. But I've also come to understand that as a soft rejection so while the words are nice it's not exactly a compliment you're always thrilled to hear.

Nah I totally feel you. That has to be super frustrating and I hate that a lot of women have to be put in that awkward and uncomfortable situation. Especially if they're trying to convince a lesbian... like dude get a grip. Any time I catch feelings for a girl I try to kill that shit as soon as possible because it literally feels embarrassing lol. Sometimes it's hard not to when you just get along so well with someone. Female friendships I think tend to be more fulfilling emotionally and involve…

This part genuinely baffles me about this discussion. Even if you genuinely become friends with a woman, spend time with her which deepens your friendship, then start to develop romantic feelings, envision the two of you sharing a life together etc... all of that gets reduced every time to "he just wanted to fuck me." lol

It's because some people do want to date for other reasons than having sex lol

If this were the case then why would asexual people still often form romantic relationships?

From my end as a dude it feels more like you are friends for awhile, form a real friendship and then develop feelings. You admit those feelings, they are not reciprocated, and now the woman is quite uncomfortable. You then create some distance to process your pain and give her some space.

Honestly I would expect chronically online men to do way less of the approaching. I perceive those to be the more neurotic guys afraid of trying their chance with a stranger.

I see it kind of like giving someone bread when they say they're thirsty. It ain't gonna hurt you but it doesn't really address the problem. And I say that having been focusing this year on rekindling friendships and being more social. It really is great and is helping me a lot but it just fills a completely separate category from romance.

I see what you're saying with your detection ability increasing with age but I guess I just don't really think of that as a woman-specific trait. I am a man and I can identify a lack of confidence or resentment as easily as any of my sisters or female friends. I think these are just things we pick up on as human beings.

This blows my mind because I'm so used to hearing stuff like "women can just tell when you have misogynist attitudes" or they can "sniff it out". It always sounded sorta fantastical to me to be honest because it makes women seem like they have superpowers or a 6th sense or something. It turns out though that a lot of dudes are just god-tier manipulators and are able to totally conceal all of that

I think sometimes women (and men) actually do this to themselves by declaring as if on behalf of everyone "women don't actually like X". Or "Why do men think women like A when we really like B?" instead of just acknowledging that it's a personal preference. Everything I said goes for the men who do this too btw.

The data doesn't necessarily come from created profiles but from cookies, geolocation, and a bunch of information they can say with pretty good accuracy that you are for example a 25-30 male living in Barcelona. These companies are really good at harvesting people's data. This also isn't a defense of either side of the ongoing debate in the comments, just wanted to add in that bit of info

Gotcha, you don't have any expertise in what you're talking about, you make up numbers to bolster your point, and the methodology that you use to arrive at these numbers is also made-up and something that no one else does or agrees on. You could have just said that from the beginning lol. The ego is powered by the brain, and a relatively small amount of resources is devoted to it. We agree on that. The rest is a bunch of random guesses and postulation that I don't understand why you would even i…
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/24 08:20 PM

Do you have any sort of background studying this stuff? Because when I read things like "In my estimate it's probably around 2%" it kinda just seems like a random guy saying a random number. Is there some example of someone actually doing the process above? When I ask for sources I swear I'm not trying to be pedantic, I'm just trying to see if there's anything else in the world that corroborates what you're saying
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/24 08:04 PM

Sure, I don't think we actually disagree if you're just saying that the ego is a construction of the brain. I do really genuinely wonder where you pull these numbers from though lol.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/24 07:47 PM

How did you arrive at the figure of 10%? first sentence of your post is Only 10% of the brain is devoted to our conscious activity. and I just can't find a single source that corroborates this. It feels like you're obfuscating by focusing on this distinction between the ego and the brain without actually getting to the point in contention here. I don't disagree that the brain does unconscious processing but I just can't understand what brings you to believe that that specific amount is what's be…
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/24 07:27 PM

Nothing about the 10 percent myth is true. We don't use 10%, the ego doesn't use 10%. The 10% thing is just not true. Though an alluring idea, the "10 percent myth" is so wrong it is almost laughable, says neurologist Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. I think any one of these links does a good job at explaining this myth: https://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/tenper.html https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-people-only-use-10-percent-of-their-brains/ https:…

It's good to know it's not so bad for everyone out there. What do you think changed from 23 to 28 that caused you to find more quality men? I'm curious if it's just increased maturity over time or if there was some other factor.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. Different strokes for different folks after all. It seems like those kind of "alpha male" characters in romance books are what have the most wide appeal, but that's not to say no women prefer a softer guy.

I really liked this answer because I (in male fashion) could actually visualize what it would be like. Once I had the visual description (akin to a major motion picture scene) then it was so much easier for me to imagine how the situation and context would play into the scene. Nice insight there, thanks.

To add to this you'll often hear the recommendation to read romance books show what women really want. I tried and I honestly found that a lot of the male leads in those books are the most red-pilled alpha guys ever lol. They're often hyper successful, powerful, and domineering. I'm skeptical that 50 Shades of Gray would have sold the way it did if it the male lead was an easygoing soft femboy character.

It's nice to see this laid out. I was really disheartened by swiping online but then I'd go to the bar or meet girls at event and it's so much easier. I don't have to try to 'sell myself', I can just talk, laugh, enjoy my time and notice the women who are attracted to that. There's so many facets to a person that are communicated irl

Just found this place the other day. First impressions are that it's cathartic to finally find a place where people talk openly about things affecting men without the annoying misogynist undertone of a lot of other communities. However there are some posts with a bit of that ranty TwoX feel a lot of the times that exhausts me to read. I like the effortposts that touch on a particular idea and share some detailed thoughts about it. I could see how some incelly types could mistakenly find refuge h…
