Galentine’s Day is also my birthday (#blessed) so my gal pal and I, both recently single, are going out to dinner tonight (and taking proper COVID precautions) to celebrate us! We’re badass boss bitches and today is OUR day!

I have a list that I started when we first broke up categorized into “the good/the bad”. The “bad” already outweighed the “good” and after revisiting it this morning I just erased the “good” and found more to add to the “bad” 🙃

I’m can say that the majority of the men I’ve been with, I’ve just been a body. They have said the right things for me to expect that “this time will be different”, and then once they get their jollies, I’m used goods and am ghosted. Call me pathetic, I called myself “optimistic” (eye roll). The last partner, especially, was just there to get his and I would have to finish on my own. We dated for 4 months. I’d chalk it up to “oh he hasn’t been with anyone in 5 years...” but after a few weeks, hi…

I think I can say this here; it’s related in a sense: My ex would “playfully” tease me all the time and expected me to laugh and play along, even though most of the time I got made to feel like an idiot. During a layover on our way back home from a trip, I saw a guy wearing a shirt with an obscure reference from “Ren & Stimpy”. I told the guy I loved his shirt (my dad and I watched that show when I was a kid) and went back to my ex to explain the reference since he’s from South America. He said …

Aside from one relationship (LVM for 5 years; I was in my early 20s, didn’t know any better) I’ve only had 3 month LVM “courtships”. Wtf.

Agreed on all of this. Relationships are perfect for 3 months, then you start to really get to know your partner and the LVM comes out. Breakups suck (especially when I’m the one who gets broken up with 99% of the time), but when reflecting and realizing that he was in fact LVM, we come out better on the other side.

Thank you. In every courtship I’ve had (and one relationship), I’m the one who’s been broken up with (most recently on New Years Day). The feeling of rejection over and over again really has taken a toll on me. It hurts, but I need to move on and remember that I am the prize. That, and listening to Sharon Jones’ “100 Days, 100 Nights” on repeat - “you know a man/can play the part/of a saint/just so long/for the day comes/when his true self unfolds.”

He ended breaking up with me, for lack of spontaneity (which, hi, pandemic). I thought of things to do while maintaining social distancing and everything else, but my ideas always got pushed to the side or forgotten about. He got COVID from one of his employees and I was there to get him through it, while still staying negative. So, yeah, not much else I can say about it.

We were monogamous for sure, it was more about communication about things to do together. I’m trying to stay COVID negative, so that limits what activities we can safely do, especially now that it’s winter. I’m currently in grad school, so money is tight too. He’d say he hates driving, so I wouldn’t suggest “let’s go for a drive” ... then he’d clarify he hates driving for work. He hates cooking, so I wouldn’t suggest cooking together, but (even though I offered and was happy to do so) he didn’t …

We only dated for a few months, but we both went all in pretty quick. 4 months seemed like 4 years with how much we spent time together and the adventures we had. So, at one point, I was expected to read his mind about what he wanted, rather than explicit communication. This early on in a relationship (courtship?), it’s important to have that communication rather than having someone assume or be completely oblivious as to what the other person wants or needs. He was also very stubborn and passiv…

I met my most recent ex on Bumble. So many signs were pointing to “he’s the one” and then communication & expectations became an issue and led to the breakup. Less than a week later he was already back on Bumble and deleted any pictures we took together on his social media.

I have never seen my dog growl or snarl at anyone cuddling with me anymore than I did with my ex (her former “stepdad”). I thought it was jealousy at first, but the dog definitely knew he was bad news bears. Anyone I have introduced to her since then, she warms up well with.

Can confirm. I (F) like check-in texts from a guy. It means I was on their mind and makes me feel special.

Thank you for this post. Any time I have a failed date, get ghosted, or broken up with, I think to myself that this is all I deserve; that I don't deserve a HVM, that my standards are too high and unrealistic. I'm glad I'm not the only one who (unfortunately) thinks this way, and seeing posts like this make me realize that we're all in this together and we are all HVW who will all get our HVM <3

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
