Hey, thank you! I’m glad I wrote something you empathized with. In some ways things haven’t changed, but in other ways they have. The biggest change is that I feel more sure that I do want kids. I’ve gotten older and more mature (I’m now 30), I’ve gotten my life more organized and where I want it to be, and that’s really helped me to overcome my anxieties about kids. I know I have a lot of learning to do still, but I now feel like I actually would be a really good parent and I would even enjoy i…

Yes, I see what you're saying and I know you weren't trying to be mean. When I said treatable I meant there is a treatment that could cure it. Sorry for being unclear. And yes I know that you don't fight through nerve pain. I 100% support him resting all the time. When I made my post I just meant that having a large life change can be rough and I was looking for strategies to do better and make his life easier. I guess I was hoping for more concrete advice and less horribly depressing worst case…

So, I never actually said he was in constant pain. He's not in constant pain. I am perfectly aware of how horrible pain is, it can be nightmarish. He has some pain when he tries to do certain things, but he avoids doing those things as much as possible and thus avoids a lot of pain. I wanted to avoid details, but actually right now he's dealing with more concern about numbness, nerve damage, and mobility than he is pain. I don't want to downplay his problems of course, but right now it's not as …

LOL! He is perfectly capable of receiving bjs, so I've been trying to do that whenever he's interested -- which is rarely to be honest, since he has very little energy and is really stressed out. I'm happy to keep doing that obviously, but I more meant that the lack of any fulfillment on my end is contributing to my frustration and stress.

Thank you! This is helpful, and encouraging. I should put more effort into self-care as well. I also like what you said about listening, although he is more of the strong silent type, so it is rare for him to open up to me much. But I could do a better job at listening. Thank you, and I hope your man gets well soon! Best of luck!

I think it's something you can overcome! It's hard to deal with and to work past but it's really good that you want to fix it. It sounds to me from your post and comments like you're not just embarrassed by initiating, but that you're also embarrassed about having sex and being sexual at all. Does that sound somewhat accurate? I could be interpreting you wrong, but it sounds to me like you have some hang ups about sex and shame. My piece of advice about that is to try to become more comfortable …

I didn't address this in my first comment, but in your post you mentioned you have a lot of anxiety, especially anxiety about people thinking you've had sex or even people thinking that you've had sexy thoughts! The truth is that human beings are creatures that need sex. RPW is not shy about admitting this. Sex is important. Sex is something almost all humans do, and enjoy. RPW is pretty clear about the fact that most people (men especially) need regular sex in order to be happy and healthy. Fro…

Here's something I would spend some time thinking about, if I were you. What happens when you get married, you have sex with your new husband, and you are no longer a virgin? What does that really look like to you, how does it make you feel? If your virginity is so valuable and important to you right now... how will you feel when you lose it? If virginity is the most important thing you have, what will be left when it's gone? How will you feel the morning after your wedding night? How will it fe…

I just want to second the La Roche-Posay ultra-light sunscreen. Sun protection is so important! I wear this sunscreen every day in spring and summer. Most other face sunscreens are so thick and oily that my makeup slides off or they make me break out, but this is the single perfect face sunscreen for me.

I'm not married and I don't have kids, but I just wanted to respond because I empathize as another young woman who is sort of on the fence. I'm 25, and I still feel like I could be happy either way, but I've gone back and forth a lot over the last few years. When I was young I always assumed I'd definitely want kids. I never really thought about it, just assumed. It seemed like "the thing to do" when you grow up. As I got a little older I started considering my options. Kids are a massive amount…

You seem to think that in order to find fulfillment in a task, you have to enjoy every part of the task with all your heart. Of course you would "rather have someone else do it." Everyone would! That doesn't make you somehow unusual, it makes you totally normal. I would love a live-in maid but I can't have one, so if I want my boyfriend to feel happy and relaxed in his home, I do the freaking dishes so he doesn't have to think about it after his brain is fried from work. Even if you hate every m…

Ooh that's an idea! Thank you so much! I will have a look around Pinterest. I also decided I'll do some dishes too. I can stand long enough to do a load or two - it's more that I can't move fast, and in a kitchen on thanksgiving I'd be in the way. But dishes I can do.

Anyone have any advice about how to deal with not being able to contribute much? I injured my ankle recently so it's hard for me to get around or stand for long periods of time. My brother and my sister in law are hosting, but since I love to cook and bake (and I am good at it!) I usually make a bunch of desserts in advance and help out a lot on the day of. But this year some friends (one is a pro chef!) are attending and making a bunch of fancy-pants side dishes and desserts. My sister in law t…

Oh, that is a good point. I guess I was thinking about it especially from a feminist point of view, since OP says she is/was one, and I also consider myself a feminist (though obviously I have my problems with the movement). The reason I think OP shouldn't have taken it as an attack is because feminists are always talking about privilege and telling men they have privilege. I feel like you can't have it both ways - if you want to tell others they have privilege, you can't get mad when they tell …

First, him stating his opinion about whether you have privilege is not a personal attack. A personal attack is "You're an idiot for thinking that, and also you smell." Being told "I think you have privilege" is not an attack, it's a relevant opinion about a topic the two of you were discussing. I'm a feminist, and I don't think "you have privilege" is inherently disrespectful, it's just a statement of opinion about social theory and the way our world works. I think you way overreacted, and if I …

My boyfriend is an engineer, and I could listen to him talk about science things FOREVER. Most of the time he has to explain things two or three different ways until I get it, since I have very little science background. But if it's something I'm interested in, he is so patient at helping me understand, and he always comes up with great analogies and explanations to make it simpler for me to learn. I love learning about new things from him! And he does the same for me - when I talk about my inte…

Good on you for dressing well! I also think it's totally possible to dress feminine and cute while still being casual and comfy. I have a very casual workplace, and my usual "casual uniform" is thick leggings or ponte pants with a long tunic top and a long drapey cardigan. It's casual and feels like you're wearing pajamas, but it can look polished and feminine too, especially depending on your shoes, scarf, earrings, coat, etc. I think the main thing is looking put together. If you look like you…

People have all kinds of fantasies and desires, and just because you have a fantasy doesn't mean you're required to act on it. It seems like you're feeling an enormous amount of anxiety and obsession about your fantasies. I think this is a question for you to work out, possibly with a therapist or counselor - random people on the internet clearly have not given you a satisfying answer after asking many many times, so I doubt that will change if you keep asking. The question is not, "what does th…

Hi there! I used to have a similar problem when I was younger. It was less that I was "childish" and more just "annoying". I was loud and mouthy and had a slightly mean sense of humor. I had to put a lot of work into mindfulness and thinking before I speak. Most of the things I said just popped out of my mouth without any thought. But I worked to train myself not to just let words fall out of my mouth with no thought of how they'd sound. How you train yourself like this can vary - a couple thing…

I just made a new account to post here, I hope that's okay. My boyfriend and a friend or two probably know my usual Reddit username, and I'm pretty sure they'd be totally weirded out if they knew I read this subreddit. I am not new at all - I've been lurking here for nearly two years, but never posted anything before. Like some others here, I consider myself a pretty ardent feminist, very liberal politically, but I also really like this community. I originally came here when it was linked in a f…
