As another girl lurking here, I definitely think that it’s more realistic to develop a mutually platonic friendship with someone of the opposite sex when it’s centered around a mutual hobby or interest. IMO that tends to provide a neutral foundation to the friendship where your interactions and discussions are centered around something that isn’t overtly masculine or feminine.
