Chemistry is a very sexist field. I had never experienced severe overt sexism until I started grad school. Just this year a paper was published in a top journal (peer reviewed) that argued diversity in hiring was a major detriment to the field of organic chemistry. My undergrad first year textbook had a (valid) synthesis for GHB in it. It wasn’t until there was a very public complaint about an unrelated sexist incident that women’s requests for it to be removed from the curriculum were heard.

I’m pretty sure stuff like this is one if the things admins will use to shut down subreddits :( I agree with the spirit but brigading would do us more harm than them.

Since you didn’t get any real discussion on your original post I just wanna follow up. Imo men who are low value know exactly what they’re doing. It’s not the case that they just don’t know when they’re being selfish and if only there was some way they could just read fds a lightbulb would go off and they’d become high value! They know. They just don’t care.

My dad kept our house freezing growing up and insisted I was just extremely sensitive. My whole life I thought there was something wrong with my metabolism or something. My mom went along with it. When I moved out on my own to an apartment I realized they were just cheap. To this day I only turn heat on in my unit in the winter, but the ambient heat from the building is enough to keep my apartment a habitable temperature. Turns out I’m not picky, it’s just expensive to heat a house and they prob…

I've never ever encountered a dude like this and given that you've noticed it lots, maybe it is a regional/cultural difference. The closest thing I can relate to was a guy I dated who seemed much too emotionally dependent on his mother. I put it to the back of my mind because I felt all families are different, and both he and his sister were weirdly clingy to their parents & relatives. Like the majority of their social lives was spent at their weekly family dinners and other various outings they…

I anxious clean too and I definitely wouldn't see it as a relaxing thing. I do it to distract myself from work pressures. True destressing for me involves setting time aside to relax and focus on processing that stuff.

At the very minimum ten servings do not fit in a single casserole dish. Who the fuck takes multiples dishes from their college gf to their adult-af-parental home to eat without her? My parents would be weirded out if I did this or if my brother did. They'd be asking why she made us so much food for no good reason?! Like I can just picture my mom rn scrambling trying to figure out how tf my brother screwed up by arriving home with random gf-pasta.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
