In the interest of satisfying curios posters, although I have a strong interest in men's issues, my stance on feminism is (on the whole) quite pro (with caveats). I identify as egalitarian. In fact, I hope that someday we can all just agree that all bodies and identities have particular serious psychosocial issues. I think Menslib is too pro feminist (it doesn't acknowledge the rampant misandry and minimizing of men's issues within feminism) and Men's Rights too anti (there isn't enough interest…

Exactly. To add to this (I'm also a therapist), in most therapy paradigms, it would not be typically professional for your therapist to disclose their views to you. As per above, your therapist should focus on why these things are important to you. If you feel judged, I encourage you to tell your therapist how you feel about what they have said.

I downvoted her too. Why doesn't it show up? Are mod sticky votes hidden?

100%. Thank you for being open minded enough to hold the notion that men can be victims too. A sadly radical notion in our modern political climate.

I agree with your post. I commented something similar to that in the sub. However, while I agree that their bias is a problem which forms part of why they are too soft on feminism, calling them a toxic hate sub seems a bit strong.

You raise an interesting approach to the debate. You frame equality as including equal obligations with equal rights. Fair enough. Women haven't been subject to conscription in the same way men have. Still, women have played an incredibly valuable role in society as primary caregivers and I suspect we can agree that they deserve the right to vote. You point out that some women were complicit in entrenching their position in society. That is true. However, while this is an important point that hi…

In the West, men denied women the right to vote or participate equally in the economy (an exception to the latter was in times of war) for centuries. Physical abuse against women in the form of beatings was socially sanctioned and in some cases, legislated. I find it very hard to believe we could claim to have suffered at their hands to the same extent. However, women have suffered grievously in terms of war. Society has always made us expendable and is an area where we can say with confidence w…

To a large extent, feminism has a strong anti-men and anti-white leaning. I think the movement naturally became this way for a number of reasons: -Throughout much of our history until recent times, men really did oppress women and hold them back. Actively. -Many radical feminists are women that have been alienated or violated by men. It's a little bit like an incels group in the sense that it the ideology has become a refuge for women who have been harmed by men in their life and a breeding grou…

The term is a great example of feminism's terrible PR in appealing to men. If they called it 'the way in which men are socialized by society that is damaging to themselves and others', I'm sure many in this sub would actually agree. Below are a few ways that masculinity is 'toxically' socialized. -Men are socialized against expressing emotions other than anger, enthusiasm and determination. This leads to many emotionally crippled men who struggle to cope with emotional distress. -Men are sociali…

It's horrible that you've been let down so badly. I'm also sad to see that women in your history have largely been conniving and punishing. If it helps, consider Skype therapy. You'll likely find a cheaper therapist and they tend to have more flexible times.

I applaud your open-mindedness. The MRA movement has been vilified in popular culture and by the media. The movement has its problems, to be sure, but fighting/advocating for recognition of men's issues is an important cause. Honestly, I feel that you're doing loads just by being open to recognizing the social issues that men face.

Welcome and thank you for being open minded enough to challenge your views. I'd say gently try to open the minds of those close to you, if such an opportunity comes.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
