Digital computers came about with the help of Turing. Analog computers existed before him. You implied that computers before Turing weren't real computers, meaning analog computers weren't real computers as opposed to digital ones.

A computer is just any device that can be programmed to carry out steps or logical operations automatically. This does not restrict itself to digital computers; analog, mechanical computers have existed since the 1800s, with stuff like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Differential_analyzer Nothing about the definition of a computer suggests it has to be digital.
