Is it possible to divorce without lawyers and mediation, yes I did. I had a rare case in the divorce world. We are still amicable 3 years later. However, have a plan, get it in writing, at least speak with a lawyer. Things can go south quick, fast and in a hurry. And like mentioned in other comments it only takes a couple glasses of wine and one of her friends that never liked you.

I am currently going through a pretty similar situation. My wife and i have been together a total of 7 1/2 years married 3 1/2.
